  • The Pas de sept bohémiennes from Act 1 of Petipa's revival of "Paquita", reconstructed by Alexei Ratmansky and Doug Fullington for the Bayerisches Staatsballett (2015).
This is perhaps one of the less known dances from "Paquita". It was originally created by Joseph Mazilier (the choreographer of the original 1846 version of "Paquita") especially for Carlotta Grisi, the original Paquita. That is why it is also known as the Pas de Carlotta. It is performed by Paquita and six of her friends for Lucien d'Hervilly and his family.
This version is by Petipa from his 1881 revival of "Paquita" and was notated when performed by Matilda Kschessinskaya, Olga Probrazhenskaya and Anna Pavlova. Before Ratmansky and Fullington's reconstruction, the Pas de sept bohémiennes had not been performed in 100 years.
    Cast:
    Paquita - Daria Sukhorukova
    Lucien d'Hervilly - Matej Urban
    The dance numbers are:
    1. Entrée
    2. Variation of the coryphees
    3. Variation of Paquita - this a supplementary polonaise variation composed by Riccardo Drigo for Anna Pavlova ca. 1902 for her performance in "The Pharaoh's Daughter."
    4. Coda
    Enjoy!

this is absolutely beautiful! not only danced most wonderfully but the choreography is so perfect as to take us back to when circus dance and ballet where two completely separate arts. Thank you for sharing this. There is still hope in the ballet world!

I've been looking for this Ratmansky production made in Munich for a long time! Would you be able to post the full ballet please? given that it seems the ballet is taken out of the Bayern Ballet repertory, It would be very so nice to keep a video of it...

I believe everything from this production was destroyed, including backdrops and costumes, when the ballet was dropped from the repertoire.

Sadly yes, I heard so from Doug Fullington. Such a waste of good materials.

@@amygrowcott For the life of me I can't understand it. I get that sometimes ballets are dropped from repertoire if they are unsuccessful...but after all the efforts to bring this back to life...DESTROY IT..?!? Why not just give it away to a company that would treasure it ....?
