The white streak in the middle of the print is down to the developer being too warm/cold/annoying or just generally off. If you look at the back of the film you will see there are three little pouches that get rolled out by the roller when the film is elected. If one of the pouches is a bit off for whatever reason, you get this brighter line. It happened to me on a whole pack of b&w film (a whole pack, it's only 8 shots) it is the joy/pain of shooting with Polaroid, to paraphrase Forrest Gump "life is like a pack of Polaroid, you never know if the photo will turn out exactly as you had imagined it would when you composed the shot." But it is fun. Black and White is far more stable as color film friends a lot on temperature (here in Ireland that is a big thing as we get about 17 seasons every day!) But it is a fun camera to shoot. Check out "The Polaroid Book" for some sweet shots. Love the videos man, thanks for sharing.
My 600 was my first ever camera, and it's what got me into photography. It looked the same as that one but blue, thrifted from a local value village. She's dead and replaced with another 600 model now, but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for that classic flip open face.
Dude there are so many photography channels out there and to be honest your content never annoys me... its always a joy to watch your vids and listen to your jokes !
hahahahaha i absolutely love retrospekt. i love what they are doing and i have bought three cameras so far. glad to see you getting a camera that has been given a new life instead of a brand new camera.
I guess that's the price you pay for a pink camera: Most of the "normal" (lame) 600 cameras have a tripod mount and a lock that prevents the shutter to fire when the lid is closed :)
I have the Black version of this model no tripod mount but mine the shutter lock works as it should when it's closed. Normally I find this to be a pretty decent Polaroid.
@@robertknight4672 Yes, unfortunately not all black versions have the mount but there are some kind of mount adapters if one really needs it. And I agree with you, they're also pretty robust and imho ideal to start out with Polaroids before investing into a SX-70
@@wasabibinladeen62 I just had this done to two Sx-70s I picked up. It is a great thing to do, but it is not without its downsides. Pros: you can use your SX-70 in lighting that isn't full 100% daylight without a flash. So you'll be able to use it in more situations. Cons: 600iso in this camera is to sensitive for many full sun situations. I just found this out the hard way on a walk on the beach. I had to wait for the sun to be behind a cloud for the exposure to actually come out properly. So it really depends on where you intend to use your SX-70. For me, honestly I wish I had kept one stock, and it means I'll likely get another one just to keep for SX-70 film. Last note, the cons above to not count if you have an Slr680 or similar. They are capable of faster shutter speeds.
@@GregoryVeizades SX70 film is rated at 160 ISO instead of 600's 640 ISO. So no it's not better for low light. Also 640 ISO is not too sensitive for full sunlight, as the aperture can stop down as low as f45, when f16 at 500 (which 600 cameras manage fine) would do direct sunlight fine. If you're in sunlight, Polaroid themselves recommend using switching the exposure comp to one quarter dark.
The white streak might just be residue leftover from the rollers. Good idea to just wipe off the two rollers after every pack of film. Just paper towel is fine.
While that could be, it seems to be more of a production flaw. I just shot a pack a couple of days ago and I got a similar streak in the same place. Checked the rollers afterwards and they were clean.
This video made me remember how good of a movie memento is, and it also made me realize that I might be as depressed as you, but without the ability to take great pictures.
Just won an auction for a Polaroid 670 AF. I can't wait to leave it on my desk because the film is so expensive. Also even though there's a light meter, you're supposed to use the exposure comp in low light and bright sunlight, move the switch one quarter towards black during daylight, and one quarter towards white in low light.
The reason that the camera fired was that you caught the shutter button as you removed it from under your jacket. The main button is locked into place, but the button for shooting without flash is not.
Finally you get to Polaroid!! SX-70 any time soon? In all seriousness, you got some nice photos! Also you can get Polaroid film slightly cheaper through Amazon and sometimes ebay (of course storage is important and in both cases you can have issues here and there) (and sometimes Polaroid have sales on their site; though I believe some people have discount codes; such as the Analog Talk podcast folks)
Just followed after seeing the canon ae-1 videos! I’m a beginner and want to learn and just saw this recent video, so crazy I actually own a Polaroid 600!!
@6:26 you have these things called 'newtonian rings.' they typically happen when theres moisture on your film and you put it directly on the glass when scanning
The color and grain quality here looks on par with the 10 euro 600 I picked up at a flea market in Stuttgart a few years ago. We're probably shooting the same film so that makes sense. Unrelated but sort of related, my two year old adores that camera and always asks to have his photo taken with it.
Damn, I have some polaroid pink duochrome pictures lying around of which I'm not particularly fond of. Should have saved this pack. I bought it for 16€ lol.
16€ is quite good for the price. Last time I walked into a film store in Paris (like a century ago) I almost cried seeing the 22€ price tag for these films
i drank a bottle of pepto when i was 3 and my mother had to call poison control. its good stuff, if you left me in a room alone with a bottle i couldn't promise i wouldn't take a sip.
at 8:00 - the camera isn't supposed to fire with its lid closed. There's a mechanism in the shutter release that's supposed to prevent it firing with the lid closed. If it fires with the lid closed, there's probably something wrong with that, or the camera opened slightly enough to release the protective mechanism.
I've never gotten good results out of a 600 box camera but if you put in the money to get a sx-70 600 conversion and a mint flash bar all your shots come out looking sexy
One thing I want to do with my Polaroid 600 is take pictures of the neon signs in Pike Place as I love the area as well as the variety of neon signs there and the atmosphere is busy but usually friendly.
I'm not sure if it's related but that white box might be connected to how the film comes out of the tray. I've had it happen where that plastic tongue that stretches out with the photo fucks with what I'm assuming is the immulsion and leaves weird traces on my polaroids. Shout out: Thanks for talkin shit on the new star wars movies. People seem to love them so much and it was starting to make me feel like I'm crazy.
Everyone will tell you that you'll have to clean the rollers to get rid of those streaks but it actually won't work. You'll have to live with it as it's caused by different aspects as temperature in the chemical chambers you can see from the back. Had this in so many shots on so many different days.
Don't know about 'modern' instant cameras, but I do remember back in the 70s - 80s word-one warning was never shoot in low-light, such as at night - ever...
You're damn right sir in this movie... Regarding episode IX. The one stripe different then two others on your Polaroid picture was caused by damaged chemistry pocket (not sure how it is called). Each photo has 3 of them for each stripe, and rolls in camera spread chemistry over photo, but... from time to time you get this. Funny fuct is that you can get whole film pack with it and Polaroid will say that "well, shit happens" :) It might be caused by temperature, storing conditions and it also might be damaged in factory. Anyway please try to use exposure conmpensation it helps a lot.
I was becoming convinced I need one until I saw the shutter go off when it’s shut, I’d waste a whole pack of Polaroid’s when I awkwardly get it out my bag. 6:47 🔥
White/blue streaks on Polaroid 600 happpens (often to me) when the rollers are dirty. Streaks can also occur when not shielding the exposure right after being taken.
It's always a hit or miss with polaroid. Maybe you need to change the exposure compensation a bit. Our Savior Matt Day once said, that he turns the dial a bit towards the darker side, which should reduce the shutter speed. But on the other hand I had great exposures with the dial a bit to the brighter side. Maybe you should have gone with the newer Cameras with a better lens and the fact that you could use the cartridges without the battery. Nevertheless I liked the video. Cheers from Germany Oh. Btw you opening the polaroid box that way almost gave me anxiety.
I enjoy your videos and dry sense of humor. I’m guessing you’re left handed wearing your watch on right wrist. Anyway Polaroids are always fun at funerals.
