That Toro DOES look great! You might try one additional cross pollinator just to see which varieties work the best. I know grapevines produce more grapes when there’s a cross pollinating plant and some varieties are more preferred than others so it might work the same with the blues. Gotta tell ya, Mike. My daughter's blueberry plants are okay, but I got a wild idea. I bought some blueberries from our grocery store and got a plastic container. Placing them into a water filled container, I grabbed the floating berries. I then squished those into another container pouring the watered container into the new floating blueberries. I went outside and poured that blueberry juice over my daughter's blueberries. I've done this once a week and when I went outside after two weeks, they've began and started to grow stronger growth. Beautiful red to green 🍃 leaves. It makes sense. Using the same chemical plant organic fruits causes a stronger reaction and it's progressing excellently.

@@MikeKincaid79 That's great, I've got about 25 and collect rain water for them but one summer i ran out of the rain water and had to use tap water but they were fine.Over here we get vinewevil grubs that eat the roots in pots and have to treat the blueberries with nematodes that kill the vinewevil grubs. Me and my son Aiden spent a few hours up our nursery last night potting up a grape vine I've had for years in a small pot and re-potted into a 90lt one. I just got a chandler this year and it has huge fruit. After watching this, I pray they labeled it right 🤔 I’ll look into the toro as a good second option for cross pollination. Space is at a premium in my teeny yard, but blueberries are well worth it. I also got two raspberries. I LOVE your raspberry patch. Could you show how you keep the plants so pruned and cleaned up. Thanks Tina! If you have the space, the Toro is definitely a great addition. We got 4 harvests off of it this year, over about a month's time. That plant just keeps producing for us like crazy. The Chandler is definitely a good one too. I've noticed the berries get bigger with each subsequent batch, kind of interesting. I'll try to keep it in mind to film this year when my wife and I and the kids tie up the raspberries.

It's definitely a great producer. Has a good flavor. There are blueberries that are sweeter but they just don't produce like this one. I'd pare it with Chandler for sure.

Yep, great plants! I'm also in 8b Pacific Northwest. Just about to get my 4th harvest on my blueberries this season. We eat some fresh and put some in the freezer and eat them all winter.
A queen bee wouldn't ever be out and about without an entourage, a large one if the colony is strong. The queen is the tool of the colony, an egg factory and nothing more. When a new queen is needed the colony grows one, and when they get a good one they will keep it for a while. When the colony gets so large that it can split, it will, and this is the only time a queen would be outside the hive.
Try "Buckle". It's a small-medium bush with small leaves and is a very heavy bearer. My bushes are currently bent over with more berries than your "Toro".
Lol Mike ! About bees! . the bee you recorded I think is a Apis mellifera, western honey bee or European honey bee. I think is a drone male. You need to put a empty home for bees in a tall tree and shade if u want have it free but you have to do it now lol -BC

You can catch them if u rub lemon balm at the entrance of behive or better small tiny bottle plastic with oil lemon balm to last more days and a tree that attracted to the bees .. I didn't do anything to specifically lower ph. I did fertilize with a high nitrogen fertilizer once I potted them up and I'm sure that lowered the ph a little. For the mother plants out in the orchard, I don't fertilize or do anything really, just keep mulching. They've been in the ground for about 5 or 6 years now and all that mulch slowly breaks down and becomes acidic over time as fungal dominance occurs in the soil due to the high carbon content of the mulch.

At this stage, just use plenty of mulch and water well through the summer. A good acid loving fertilizer will really kick them into high gear. Plenty of water through the summer is key though.
According to one of the online nurseries Elliott is a good pollinating partner for handler. I got the Chandler because they are supposed to produce the largest berries, be the most productive or very productive, and have a very good flavor and the Elliott is supposed to a good producer with a little bit smaller berries and have a good flavor. Is the Toro good in zone 7b?
Have you ever tried propagating Saskatoon or juneberry trees? I've heard they have a really high fail rate unless you do suckers instead of cuttings. But you might be able to figure it out
Sounds like a nice variety. I'll have to look into that one. It's definitely not that one though. I never planted an Aurora here. Not sure I've even seen them before.
@@MikeKincaid79 definitely give them a try! They're a highbush that can be grown in containers or the ground from zones 3-8 doing best in zones 4-7. Their fruit are humongous, firm, and sweet.

My question is will blueberries that are starting to ripen if you take them off the plant will they ripen up Fully off the plant?
Hopefully a quick question. I stuck some blueberry cuttings in bark dust back in January. About half took and have new growth. Should I move them out of the bark dust into their own pots now, or should I wait longer? Thanks Mike.
Ideally, you would leave them put and start fertilizing and watering them now that they're rooted, and then pot them up individually next spring. You can separate them now but make sure you do it soon so there is plenty of warm summer left for the roots to get reestablished. I plan to do this soon with a few mulberry cuttings that I started earlier in the spring.

Awesome! Glad you enjoy them and thanks for your support. Unfortunately, seeds will not come out true to the parent plant due to genetic diversity. No seedling will ever be exactly like the parent. That goes for the fruit they produce as well. 99 times out of 100, you'll get a berry that won't be what you were looking for, but there's always that one that will be a gem and now you've created a new variety that you can propagate.

Mike, how do you keep birds from destroying your blueberry crop? I noticed you don’t have netting over your bushes. I really don’t want to net mine, but the birds got ALL our berries this season before we could enjoy any.
I’m not sure why, but I’ve never had a problem with birds getting my blueberries. We have a ton of fruiting plants around here though so maybe there’s just more than enough to go around.

How often should the plastic water bottle be taken off or the top of the bottle screwed off? Or should you never remove it? Also, how often should the 1 gallon container with the cuttings be watered? I use a split of peat and pumice as the growing medium here in zone 10a. Thanks!
It’s not an exact science. You can remove the cap or the bottle for up to 30 minutes, or more, as long as you eventually get the cuttings back in a humid environment before they droop.

Lots of mulch and organic material, plenty of water through the summer. Once established, they'll thrive on almost nothing. Not sure about 9b varieties as that's pretty warm but there may be some out there.
What s the best fertilizer for blueberries? I live in north central Florida and I se3 that Walmart will have the toro blueberry next week. January 2022. I would really love to get some really plump, firm berries. All my plants are of the rabbit verity. I also have a real problem with climbing weeds. They wrap themselves around the branches of the berries. I can’t find a herbicide that will kill the weed but not the berry bush.
You could pull the weeds the first year and then apply a pre-emergent like casaron or preen. That will prevent future weed seeds from sprouting for up to a year. I use casaron around my landscape plants. Fertilizer for blueberries should be an 'acid loving' fertilizer. Rhododendrons and azalea fertilizer will work well. If you can find that Toro, then definitely get it. One of the best blueberry varieties, as far as production, that I've ever seen, and the taste is really good.

When you start pulling some of these weeds, you have to dig down about afoot and you find this gnarly looking really white potato looking root and then travels underground with numerous tough thinner roots to the next gnarly root. Yes, as long as you plant them early on in the summer so the roots have a good portion of the growing season to get established and prepared for winter.

Have you ever tried cloning Lowbush Blueberries (sometimes called Wild Blueberries)? I tried about 50 cuttings, with root hormone, and had a 0% success rate. I did mine in the fall, maybe I did it too late?

Help me i have kill every blueberry plant I have purchased. I live in 9B south texas. I have watch so many videos tried lots of different types of soil and water, fertilizer even peeing on them. They slowly die off. Im sure its a ph issue. I can't get it lower then 7. I tried peat moss, compost, Sand, regular dirt. Vinegar, blue bag of soil acidifier. I just got pine bark mulch. I saw a comment from someone that plants blueberries in straight pine mulch. Do you have advice for me. Thank you
Pine mulch sounds like a great material for blueberries. They need soil that is very porous and full of composted organic matter, kind of like the stuff on a forest floor. They don't do as well planted in dirt.
Plant them in big pots, use 50% peat moss, 50% ericaceous compost and they will do great! The mix will be about 5 PH, and make sure to use rain water, as rain water PH is around 5 too, tap water is not good to use, you are in Texas so that might be an issue, you can buy things to lower the PH of the tap water, also I know someone who grows in Texas, the plants do not like full sun in Texas as it's too hot, so put the plants maybe slightly under a tree or somewhere that could block the intense mid day sun
Just did it today. I was late in making that happen this year but I knew I had to make it happen. It hit 105 today and now they're predicting 113 for Monday. That's Phoenix weather but with humidity.
Chandler is my favorite. No, that is not a queen honeybee. I don't have toro though there are some U-Pick farms around me that have that variety though.

After 7 years old the plants who are in the ground, not pots, you will certainly knows what's going on, then do whatever u wish to replace in the 8 year old. Important take notes of date birth of all the plants .. 😆... TORO is awesome! Mike you are planting very healthy plants and u says🤭 "I don't know nothing about bees" 😆.. they're are so important for our plants yeah! They will flourish a huge! and their honey is so very healthy very treasure like the gold. I can't wait when you starting to love bees I know someday will be, you will learning anything about them. I don’t think we can send anything to Russia right now. I’ve been using a middle man in a neighboring country to get things into Russia. I send plants to him and then he sends them to Russia which doubles the shipping cost. It’s a bit of a pain and only worth it for rare plants. It could already be sold in Russia under another name. With as many plants as I send to Russia I’m sure someone there has imported it already, you’ll just have to do some hunting

As always Mike you have inspired me. I took some blueberry cuttings earlier this year and they may be doing OK, but I forgot to make a marker for them, 🤣🙃🤣 so I am going to try this again, this time I will make a marker first.
You should pee on those blueberry cuttings, then they'll grow like weeds, HaHa! 😉 I work in a garden center and I bought a blueberry variety called 'Jelly Bean' on clearance. I've been making sure that it's been, um... getting "fertilized" quite regularly, so to speak.

They look awesome. Our blueberry patch only has Chandler in it for now. By the house I have New Jersey Blueberry plants. Will move them in the fall.
The Chandler is a great one too and seems to ripen close to the same time as the Toro. I like both, the Toro seems to produce more.

I've often thought about this. My neighbor just a had a swarm land on a tree at his house a week ago but it flew away before I could get it.

If u put the oil lemon balm at the hive the bees will come. Not need to catching if u don't want to, just wait and they will come.

I got the Chandler because they are supposed to produce the largest berries, be the most productive or very productive, and have a very good flavor and the Elliott is supposed to a good producer with a little bit smaller berries and have a good flavor. Is the Toro good in zone 7b?
I have both and love the Chandler. It's one of my favorites. I'm sure Toro would grow in 7b, they handle much colder zones than that.
Have you ever tried propagating Saskatoon or juneberry trees? I've heard they have a really high fail rate unless you do suckers instead of cuttings. But you might be able to figure it out

Maybe the first bush you thought was the Chandler is an Aurora. Auroras have huge blueberries great for muffins 😋
Sounds like a nice variety. I'll have to look into that one. It's definitely not that one though. I never planted an Aurora here. Not sure I've even seen them before.
@@MikeKincaid79 definitely give them a try! They're a highbush that can be grown in containers or the ground from zones 3-8 doing best in zones 4-7. Their fruit are humongous, firm, and sweet.

I have a question, 1st off my wild blueberry is starting to ripen up with all the rain that we've been having, some of the fruit has been knocked off because of the rain. My question is will blueberries that are starting to ripen if you take them off the plant will they ripen up Fully off the plant?
I'm not sure about that, never tried it. I'm inclined to say no but I don't have any personal experience with it so I could be wrong.

Hopefully a quick question. I stuck some blueberry cuttings in bark dust back in January. About half took and have new growth. Should I move them out of the bark dust into their own pots now, or should I wait longer? Thanks Mike.
Ideally, you would leave them put and start fertilizing and watering them now that they're rooted, and then pot them up individually next spring. You can separate them now but make sure you do it soon so there is plenty of warm summer left for the roots to get reestablished. I plan to do this soon with a few mulberry cuttings that I started earlier in the spring.

Awesome! Glad you enjoy them and thanks for your support. Unfortunately, seeds will not come out true to the parent plant due to genetic diversity. No seedling will ever be exactly like the parent. That goes for the fruit they produce as well. 99 times out of 100, you'll get a berry that won't be what you were looking for, but there's always that one that will be a gem and now you've created a new variety that you can propagate.

Yes, taking cuttings from an infected plant will pass it on to the next generation.
Mike, how do you keep birds from destroying your blueberry crop? I noticed you don’t have netting over your bushes. I really don’t want to net mine, but the birds got ALL our berries this season before we could enjoy any.
I’m not sure why, but I’ve never had a problem with birds getting my blueberries. We have a ton of fruiting plants around here though so maybe there’s just more than enough to go around.

If you get a chance to try Liberty blueberries, they are amazingly smooth and sweet. Harvest time is over a month so you get waves of goodness :)

How often should the plastic water bottle be taken off or the top of the bottle screwed off? Or should you never remove it? Also, how often should the 1 gallon container with the cuttings be watered? I use a split of peat and pumice as the growing medium here in zone 10a. Thanks!
It’s not an exact science. You can remove the cap or the bottle for up to 30 minutes, or more, as long as you eventually get the cuttings back in a humid environment before they droop.

I am in zone 9b and I wanted to try the jelly bean variety in your videos. Need to know what are good varieties in my zone.
Lots of mulch and organic material, plenty of water through the summer. Once established, they'll thrive on almost nothing. Not sure about 9b varieties as that's pretty warm but there may be some out there.

What s the best fertilizer for blueberries? I live in north central Florida and I se3 that Walmart will have the toro blueberry next week. January 2022.
I would really love to get some really plump, firm berries. All my plants are of the rabbit verity. I also have a real problem with climbing weeds. They wrap themselves around the branches of the berries. I can’t find a herbicide that will kill the weed but not the berry bush.
You could pull the weeds the first year and then apply a pre-emergent like casaron or preen. That will prevent future weed seeds from sprouting for up to a year. I use casaron around my landscape plants. Fertilizer for blueberries should be an 'acid loving' fertilizer. Rhododendrons and azalea fertilizer will work well. If you can find that Toro, then definitely get it. One of the best blueberry varieties, as far as production, that I've ever seen, and the taste is really good.

When you start pulling some of these weeds, you have to dig down about afoot and you find this gnarly looking really white potato looking root and then travels underground with numerous tough thinner roots to the next gnarly root. Real fun.

Yes, as long as you plant them early on in the summer so the roots have a good portion of the growing season to get established and prepared for winter.

Active range of motion as soon as possible is the key to keeping the tendon gliding and not adhering to scar tissue.
Have you ever tried cloning Lowbush Blueberries (sometimes called Wild Blueberries)? I tried about 50 cuttings, with root hormone, and had a 0% success rate. I did mine in the fall, maybe I did it too late?
I haven't but if I can find some lowbush then I'll give it a shot.

Help me i have kill every blueberry plant I have purchased. I live in 9B south texas. I have watch so many videos tried lots of different types of soil and water, fertilizer even peeing on them. They slowly die off. Im sure its a ph issue. I can't get it lower then 7. I tried peat moss, compost, Sand, regular dirt. Vinegar, blue bag of soil acidifier. I just got pine bark mulch. I saw a comment from someone that plants blueberries in straight pine mulch. Do you have advice for me. Thank you
Pine mulch sounds like a great material for blueberries. They need soil that is very porous and full of composted organic matter, kind of like the stuff on a forest floor. They don't do as well planted in dirt.
Plant them in big pots, use 50% peat moss, 50% ericaceous compost and they will do great! The mix will be about 5 PH, and make sure to use rain water, as rain water PH is around 5 too, tap water is not good to use, you are in Texas so that might be an issue, you can buy things to lower the PH of the tap water, also I know someone who grows in Texas, the plants do not like full sun in Texas as it's too hot, so put the plants maybe slightly under a tree or somewhere that could block the intense mid day sun

Just did it today. I was late in making that happen this year but I knew I had to make it happen. It hit 105 today and now they're predicting 113 for Monday. That's Phoenix weather but with humidity.

Chandler is my favorite. No, that is not a queen honeybee. I don't have toro though there are some U-Pick farms around me that have that variety though.

After 7 years old the plants who are in the ground, not pots, you will certainly knows what's going on, then do whatever u wish to replace in the 8 year old. Important take notes of date birth of all the plants .. 😆... TORO is awesome! Mike you are planting very healthy plants and u says🤭 "I don't know nothing about bees" 😆.. they're are so important for our plants yeah! They will flourish a huge! and their honey is so very healthy very treasure like the gold. I can't wait when you starting to love bees I know someday will be, you will learning anything about them. We have a ton of different native bees around here that come out while the rhododendrons are blooming. I've always wanted to get honey bees, even bought the materials to build a top bar hive. Someday I'll find the time.

Blueberry branches naturally take on a red color through the winter. It’s actually really pretty and adds some winter color.

I don’t think we can send anything to Russia right now. I’ve been using a middle man in a neighboring country to get things into Russia. I send plants to him and then he sends them to Russia which doubles the shipping cost. It’s a bit of a pain and only worth it for rare plants. It could already be sold in Russia under another name. With as many plants as I send to Russia I’m sure someone there has imported it already, you’ll just have to do some hunting

It's fairly acidic, especially since we laid down all the wood chips and manure and it's had about 5 years to break down.

I work in a garden center and I bought a blueberry variety called 'Jelly Bean' on clearance. I've been making sure that it's been, um... getting "fertilized" quite regularly, so to speak.
