To think that The Witcher the Show was initially supposed to be helmed by THE guy from CD Project Red who directed the cinematics of Witcher 3 (which are ALL fantastic, every single one), is a huge fan of the source material, and had complete storyboards and a great vision - and he got kicked out and swapped for Lauren is such a slap in the face, too. You could see in season 3 , they were leaning heavily from going away from the books. What I don't understand is the Witcher story is a woke story, about a young girl who is extremely powerful, along with all the powerful mages who actually distrust the male wizards due to their lust for power. The story is perfect for the modern era. But No, woke culture can't accept one strong male character in any show they watch, its completely delusional and ridiculous at this point. Its literally the opposite of equality, its actively putting down the male gender not about enhancing females.

    • @nicholastuttle2445
      @nicholastuttle2445 2 ปีที่แล้ว

but by woke standards (men are terrible and stupid) its not woke enough. Geralt, Vesemir, Eskel, Emyr Var Emris, and many others are smart, capable and dangerous which is unacceptable to the woke Hollywood writer. For woke writers all male characters must be stupid and inept, unless they are evil in which case they are skilled and competent until easily taken out by the female main character.

I love how laid-back open bar is. Everybody lets each other talk, and even when two people start talking at the same time, the default response is for both of them to stop and say "go ahead." Friday Night Tights needs to take notes. That show is utter chaos; everybody yelling, interrupting, and talking over each other for the entirety of the stream.

That IS FNT though, and you're all kidding yourselves if you think otherwise or that it'll ever change.
I admit I enjoy the laid back, polite atmosphere of open bar. But FNT's chaos is part of what makes it great. Sometimes it does get out of hand, and IMO it's Az that is the biggest issue, but if they started acting like they do here on open bar, you wouldn't enjoy nearly as much. And that chaos generates so many funny situations and memes; I love open bar, but I never laugh a tenth as much as I do at FNT.

I don't enjoy FNT at all though, for the aforementioned reasons. Can't even watch it. I would vastly prefer open bar style.
" *that chaos generates so many funny situations and memes* "
I don't recall a single meme ever being created by people interrupting and talking over each other, which is the show's main problem.
And sure, every once in a while, one of AZ's tantrums or Kinnel's soap box rants turns into a meme. But to me, these occasional jokes just aren't worth listening to 12 people yell into a camera for hours. It''s like being in a packed bar at 1 AM.

Picking the next Black Panther was so easy I can’t believe they messed it up.
    1) Killmonger completed his arc in the last movie and died. MBJ was super popular.
    2) They’ve introduced multiversal travel.
    3) Just drop in a Killmonger from another universe and have him overcome his rage to become a better person. There’s a lot you can do with that character arc.
There. Now you have a good actor for the franchise and future engagements. They already did this with Loki. Might as well.

The MCU is suffering from a few issues. 1 is bad writing and identity politics. 2 Is that it use to be a big screen special event that you could go see with friends or family. There was value in the rarity. And there's burn out in that sense, they have made the mcu too generic and accessible. 3. There's no Avengers front liners holding the heroes together anymore, characters we care about and know will bring the group back for a big screen event. Since phase 1 to 3 did this so well, we now expect it which segues into my final factor. Number 4, lack of direction. The mcu feels like a jumbled mess with no direction. I think it would be smart of them to end a movie soon with a cliff hanger that brings the new Avengers team together hinting that the next movie will be the next Avengers movie. This last point is why you create stories using a structure, people find value in organization. Order, not chaos.

Dredd (2012) is an incredible film. I own the blu-ray, have the 1/6 of Anderson, the comics, etc. I think, like the Drinker says, it wasn't marketed well. I've been a fan of Dredd and 2000AD since the 80s, and still have my Dredd novels somewhere. It was a good version of the idea of Dredd. I think the perfect Dredd film is more towards 2012 than the 1995 Stallone film, but I think they needed to put in a bit more dark comedy. However, it's still a great film, and deserves more recognition. Even Karl Urban would like to come back and do another film. There's rumours of a Netflix series called Mega City One, which I think would be a perfect chance for individual stories within the Dredd franchise, with a potential overarching plot (the Dark Judges, for example).

The Year is 2050. Go to movies, it's the weekly MCU movie. Disney logo on screen. It's phase 12 of the story. Movie starts, Tobey Maguire is in a wheelchair. A burglar comes into his house, steals his Funko Pops. Tobey says "it's peterin time" (this is a reference to the hit 2022 film morbius). Also says "that sounded better in my head." He puts on his mask, the crowd screams until my ears ring. He swings at the man as he's running away. A portal opens and captain Europe steps into the scene. Tobey accidentally swings into him He says "it's all good I have healthcare". Crowd cheers, captain Europe had his own TV show in 2048 and this is a reference to his prostate exam episode in season 6 where he makes the same joke. Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield come through the portal and point at each other, making the funny Spider-Man meme again. They all start jerking each other off as the camera zooms out, revealing the Death Star and the Star Wars theme briefly plays. Crowd cheers again before the screen cuts to black and Darth Vader's laugh plays. Post credit scene shows Thanos reappear, and he says, "I'm coming for you Redditors." Crowd cheers one last time, before news sources are saying this is one of the best movies of all time. Thank you Disney for saving the film industry.

Orders of magnitude in relative fame but effectively the same timeline, never saw chadwick in public enough to tell if/how he was even treating things because TB was visibly diminishing over time as much due to the chemo as the cancer. Still, no will while under a terminal illness, seems like a dick move.
21:21 But drinker, you glorious inebriated person of dubious parental marriage status, that was the EXACT plot of Black Panther 1. Killmonger (t'challas cousin) won a late trial by combat (that for some reason t'challa refused to check for obvious side-motivations/evidence-of-heritage for ahead of time) to became tyrant in chief, his uncle was just as much of a terrorist who wanted to flood the ghettos with sci-fi weapons, because-reasons, t'chaka killed his own brother leaving a nephew to fend for himself. After the combat loss the former queen instantly made plans to flee with suri and the flower (but not with both of the BP suits) to plot from self-imposed exile, long before it was confirmed kill monger was out for their blood.
I mean psychopathy was pretty firmly ingrained in the family line and/or politics at this point. That's ignoring the seeming lack of consequences for the defense forces willingly turning international arms-dealers and fighting their (now rebel? deposed rulers? internal terrorists? "freedom fighters"?) fellow countrymen with zero restraint, seriously I can't tell which side is the most egregious on this one. is the trial by combat the legitimate end of the ruling trials or can anyone just move in with a political faction, go for an assassination under the sun and become the ruler because of it? Is that why t'challa was so worried about the other 4 families(?), it's basically game of thrones but in a super sci-fi advanced society, society so maybe more cyberpunk than g.r.r.martin???
2:35:00 I find that old shows in general are way better at placing people of the proper ages into the proper roles and experience levels they would have had even to this day. That the actors back then had little choice but to participate in worldwide events of the time only ever added to the authenticity of the roles. This works evermore in the favor of older sci-fi because you get WW2 vets in things like star trek acting like voices of experience. You got the 50s war movies where half the cast would have seen actual battle and if not taken then were in proximity to the various tolls that such events take on a person. There was a wealth of experience and worldliness to classic actors that the current crop of babied direct-from-film-camp/school/group mental-children just can not present meaningful figures or provide on-set feedback to pare back the ever more sardonic and disrespectful writing (another place failed by a lack of life experience). Sadly it goes beyond even simple situational experience so many of these writers and actors seem to lack the simple experiences of day to day human interaction of people living their lives where their only source of social contact is face to face be it friends, family or physical relations.
Where once we got sometimes gaunt or broken looking looking people manning stations, guarding compounds or living to work and sleeping only as needed, we now get little but fresh faced, doe-eyed water-fat (to borrow the dune term, puni puni for the weeb one) blank-slate "perfect" children in all those roles and it just doesn't sell the characters. It looks like everyone has just come out of a spa and makeup session and for the most part that's almost exactly what's happened.
2:46:05 era jumping and letting the predators win are badly needed, they are an interesting species to use sparingly. Avatar basically usurped the entire story that cold have happened with the "human adopted by predators" thing that the predator books did well.
i'd still like a proper aliens not-earth-hive bug-hunt setup beyond the aliens movie timeline where the predators interfere as a background faction. The humans are all-in on an extended campaign against the aliens (because reasons, maybe it's a science-run, maybe it's one of a limited number of habitable places, maybe it's a colony world fallen that they can't properly blocade so need to go in and wipe out anything that could get off-planet on it's own), it's slow-going because the aliens are ambush-creatures, they hide, bury, dig and next so ground can be taken only to fall like the base dizzy dies at in starship troopers (maybe a series needed not a movie), occasionally a nest can be found with a dead guard/queen no sign of the cause but plasma weapons clearly used (something the colonial marines now have because it's a full strength unit), missions come, missions go for a few episodes then there's a shimmer seen that freaks out a guard. later on a mission going bad is taken over by the predators because they can move-in without needing to worry about the guard-forces because the dead humans cleared the chaff leaving only the queens-guards (and a rolling- head plus functional camera at the entrance), the brass freaks out thinking they are fighting 2 species. hilarity ensues, so now there's tooled up marine patrols with air/orbital support freakling out but the preds want to finish up, maybe grab some human trophes then get out. a little tit for tat, preds get a win, humies get some damage done, both go their own way (mightily pissed at each other) after needing to take out an alien swarm that got aggressive while they were both distracted. enemies forever but humies got in a few licks (thanks to smart-gun optics and combined arms removing cover over wider spaces) and predators shows to be terrifyingly effective even in limited numbers due to general high mobility and a tech/training-advantage, the end, marines pull out after deciding to just nuke the place from orbit, it's the only way to be sure (planet will be usable again in a few hundred years minus current foliage/nests and that's good enough)

Phase 4 is the first phase of the MCU where Ike Pearlmutter has not had any say. He was the guy that kept Fiege grounded. Its not that Pearlmutter was perfect. He was not. However he was not afraid to tell Fiege that idea wont sell or that the story was crap. Kevin does not have that governor anymore. Fiege need someone in there who looks at these stories from a business perspective. Right now he does not have that and it is not working.

Although I don’t agree much with Jeremy, I’ve been in the same line of thinking that it’s not so much a [insert Genre] Fatigue, but a BAD STORY Fatigue we are going through. Start putting out Super Hero Movies where there is Care & Respect for the Source Material WITH a Good Story, people WILL watch it! Which btw, people looking forward to Henry Cavil FINALLY playing the Superman we want will prove my point.

All you have to do is STOP Hiring and get RID of these UNQUALIFIED SJW, CRT, Agenda Driven, Misandrist Diversity Writers who (let’s admit it here) HATE the IP they’re working on and PURPOSEFULLY destroy the Franchise because they enjoy (said by a writer & critics on Twitter), “drinking up the Man-Babies Tears they filled their mugs with.” It’s sickening!
It’s so bad now that EVEN IF you put in Writers and Producers who are brand spanking new to the film making process BUT Respects the Material and Genuinely WANT to make a Great (hate to use the word) PRODUCT, it would be 1000x’s better and MORE watchable than what we have now!

I agree with Jeremy on the whole burnout vs. bad writing thing and let me set the stage to demonstrate:
Let's sat that tomorrow we get a flurry of news that Disney has sold Lucasfilm back to George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy has been fired (out of a cannon and into the Sun, preferably), and the entirety of the Lucasfilm story group has died tragically in a fiery excruciating train fire, even through all the passengers and train staff not affiliated with Lucasfilm somehow managed to escape completely unharmed and also they found twenty bucks on the ground when they left.
Then we hear Drew Karpyshyn has been brought on as head writer for a new Star Wars trilogy and it's announced that it's a live action Knights Of The Old Republic AND the casting is spot on AND they're going to take their time in between films.
If that happened. I think you'd find that nearly all of even the most burned out, apathetic, former Star Wars fans would flip their shit in antici ....

Don’t underestimate Covids effect on Stranger Things... it allowed writers more time... they could film, write, and because of d3layed release of episodes, they could go back and strengthen the narrative, which allowed them to drop in additional scenes / plots. When the money making machine is forced to slow a bit... sometimes good stories materialize

The exact opposite of the Writers Strike (anyone remember that..??) where the condensed time of producing both immediately before, and picking up after completely derailed any chance Lost had, and demolished the storyline of Heroes - similar thing with Babylon 5 when it was cancelled after Season 4, then picked up for a 5th by another network - having already crammed (very very well!) all the 4-5 arc into 4 alone; it left a hasty 5 to be created out of almost nothing.
I think too that (an extreme example!) a Top Gun sequel in 1989 would not have turned out as well as Maverick did.

I think there is such a thing as fatigue, though I believe it goes both ways. For audience fatigue, it is our patience. We can only stomach a string of bad movies for so long before we grow disinterested. Like what was stated before, Love and thunder may have made bank if it was made before Endgame. If they constantly bring out bangers, we don't grow tired of them.

I don't mind the actec/mayan/incan(no clue which/if any)? take on the atlanteans, it's a nice separation between the marvel and DC iterations (plus I have seen entirely too much of namor in comic costumes that varied between twink and leather bedecked body-builder with fishnet cut-outs and thigh high riding boots), this could (have been) be a case of change is good.
I do however have one question, where the hell is an underwater civilization that's effectively isolated itself from the surface getting so many damned feathers from?

the LAST thing they'll figure out is "quit hating your audience". so long as the same people are running the studios, they will never figure this out. warner has a remote chance of realizing this...once they fire for cause (and permanently blacklist) every one of those making movies there who hate their audiences (from producer to director to writer to actor to advertiser to distributor). it's the only way and they are only just beginning to understand that. disney? well disney has ABSOLUTELY no chance.

It's easy to do a psychological drama about the predator.
Simply tell it from the perspective of someone who is living near the Predators lair. They think the Predator is their demon, their drug-induced, or psychosis-induced horror that haunts the attic of the nearly dilapidated abandoned building that they're still a tenant in or what have you. Imagine hearing the footsteps of the Predator every night above you, or blood dripping down from your ceiling from its cleaned prey, or you hear the rough alien language of some "demonic" being.
And then you have the person we're following start to believe that they themselves are a serial killer, so you get to see people being killed on the news or around his area of living and he thinks it's all connected to him. Ofc, the only reason he's still alive is because he never has a weapon around the predator. He sees the predator and he even interacts with it sometimes in tense moments we're simply dismisses him as unworthy prey because the state of a psychology or his physical being. It would be truly interesting if he was perhaps disabled with the limp or a deformity which is why the Predator would not want him.
You then have a moment where he decides that he has to deal with this and he thinks that himself being the cause must take responsibility and therefore tries to hunt the Predator through his own dilapidated building. He then goes on a battle with the predator whereby he strips it of its weapons and its defenses to where it is just an animal now the same as him and the battle progresses through the building into the lower subway tunnels.
Naturally he does not come out unscathed but he's had years of preparation now because the Predator had made the mistake of dismissing this unworthy prey. , you can even throw in a cop that does courtesy calls or something has some kind of connected to him and he comes in behind seeing all the destruction and the chaos that the traps that the previous man had set up and then the end gets to the final battle to see the disabled man fighting the predator on hand-to-hand combat grounds and helps and then it's 2 on 1.
In which case the man has to then realize that this is not his personal demons and this is in fact creature a creature from outer space in fact and then he has to deal with that fact it does he let it live? How does the Predator respond to this unworthy prey now suddenly putting its life on the line? Basically you want to tell the story of how the lowest of us could still fight to survive. Not a soldier, not a peacekeeper, not a warrior, not some rich investor backed scientist, but worthless disgusting hobo human. Saves the entire city, and no one cares about him.
Make him a veteran and it would make a little bit more sense too.
    See? Easy.

To me, Dunkirk was a movie where it was really all about the _event_ of Dunkirk rather than any particular characters, although I would say that most of the characters do have pretty poignant moments even though you don't get to know them that well. It's really all about what they do or don't do rather than who they are.

_A Bridge Too Far_ did a much better job of educating about a specific battle with both big-picture strategy context and boots-on-the-ground subjective experiences; by the end you _know_ about Operation Market Garden and the normal people who suffered its failings.
Dunkirk had oddly little information _or_ character. It felt like it could have taken place anywhere at any time period.

    • @albatross8361
      @albatross8361 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Imho, the 1958 Dunkirk was both a better movie and also a better account of the event, with a more engaging cast. It is also very grim and bleak at times, perhaps very painful for the audience of that time. There are some clips on YT eg "Stukas!".
One thing I found strange about the Nolan version was that it seemed to make little use of CGI, to the extent that parts of the film look like it was made in the 1960s. CGI is often overused, but it can really help to take the audience back in time and place. The 2013 'Stalingrad' overdoes the CGI at times, but also does it well, constructing a convincingly devastated city, in which everything is covered in grit and grime.
