i think being referred to as a he despite having full range of character customization makes sense because it doesn't matter what ur characters name is or what they look like you as a player are playing as Kazuto Kirigaya aka Kirito.
The reasons why today’s Anime games don’t have English voices because Bandai dropped out the R1 anime distribution industry years ago, which is where they pulled in most of their voices for the video games division. Nowadays they only dub the games that are expected to pull in a large amount of profit like anything from the Tales franchise.

*Stares at two year old comments* Well I'm a tad late to the party, but figured I'd give my two cents as someone who just got the game on sale and hasn't actually done much with it (also got it on pc). So, for those of you who also got it on Steam or are thinking of getting it during this sale, do yourself a big favor by doing the following. 1) connect a controller and run steam as admin. 2) go into big picture mode. 3) make sure your controller is being read in the settings. 4) go into the game's settings and make sure that it is detecting the controller and make sure that you have the controller selected. Don't configure the game pad at all. You won't be able to properly scroll through menus. 5) run the game, go into options, and click DISABLE KIRITO. It will keep the game from making your character sound like kirito, which was really fucking jarring to me when I first played the game. I'm debating on playing anymore of the game just because I'm still in that soft spot where I can return the game if need be. The combat was fun and interesting (for the tutorial, as that's all I've done) however I did get stuck in the air at one point and that was just a tad awful. I liked the city layout as it reminded me of an mmo, and clicking on the quest board and seeing a lot of quests to press a to and obtain was just... idk what it is about lists, but damn do I love them. Also as a tip, feel free to make a new game several times to try out different options. There was absolutely no height reference in the creator, so I thought 2 was pretty short, but actually 2 is apparently average female height (asuna is a 2). So, for some semblance of a reference I believe it goes like... 1: Ayano 2: Asuna/Kirito/most of the cast (your average 14(?) year old height) 3: Average 16 year old height (haven't seen enough of the game or series) 4: Klein 5: Agil To my knowledge, female and male heights are the same. (I've made a lot of new games, please kill me) Lastly keep in mind that in this game you're Kirito whether you like it or not. I'll probably just pretend and then face the awkward plot, or just assume that my character is a random waifu tailing Kirito and that he's off pretending to be cool or something while I go fight the raid boss. Yay semi customizable rpgs~
Lol well this game just came out for the switch which im in love with. And have been buying alot of its titles. I love SAO anime. Couldve been better but hey ill put up with all the softcore hentai bs . Kiritos a pimp we get it lol. Anyways. Ive been looking at reviews all day cause honestly im on the fence about this one. I had lost song for ps vita and i was so surprised how bored i go. The land was bland and the enemies all too similiar, most were literally just reskins of each other. Didnt care for the aerial aspect either. It was fun but definitely made it jarring sometimes cause of how little info the missions give you lol. I never played hollow fragment cause i know i never wanted to play SAO as an Rpg. Its swords for christ sake and i love swords, so i wanna feel like im somewhat using them. However weird that sounds lol. This seems real promising though, the reviews are really REALLY mixed, ive seen as low as 5 but then this guy gave it an 8. I wish it was just amazing enough to be a 9 or a consistent 8 cause i wouldve bought it already. Im a low income family and i dont have gobs of cash to throw on games like that. So hmmmmm 50 bucks for a decent game on switch. This review MIGHT have sold me. Someone else mentioned how this was inspired by FF 14 and my ears perked up. Alas, this is fairly different and not as extensive, buuuuuuut still good it seems.
I finally played this game for the first time last night. I had never read or seen any reviews for it but I loved the manga. so far it looks and feels fantastic and the music is great too. the only thing that was very strange was the character creation at the beginning of the game. I hate to have to start over as kirito. I hope that there's a way to remake your character at some point. I really don't like being referred to as a completely different character than the character that I created. Other than that I'm very excited for the game it's colorful the music is great the characters are funny and seem well written. The only question I have is whether it would be important or significant to get the the game that came before this one.
I would imagine they refer to the main character as a he and you sound like a man because you are playing a man playing a game. You are making Kirito make a female character. So when he is playing the game the party would still refer to him as a man because he is. Just his avatar is a female looking character. It would be the same as you and some buddies playing battlefield and you are a female character and your friends would still call you a he. So it actually makes sense. You gotta remember you even said it in the beginning of the video. You’re playing a guy who is playing a game.
