A great fun video. Congratulations on your 25 FOs! I think the advent on the tree will look great, if it doesn't work then you could always get some mini pegs/clothespins and hang them up each day. I think keeping them in a jar is a lovely idea. x
Well, it's happened again! Me talking and conversing with you continuously as I watch! Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you had as great a day celebrating at the Farm as I did celebrating mine with you at Stitch New England! I love the card holder idea! I think you should absolutely try it! I like the way you made the project bag as well. My husband gave me the Susan Branch book for Christmas several years ago. It's really amazing, isn't it? I may not have been able to join you for the CT stitch day today, you've kept me company anyway!
Glad I was able to keep you company, even virtually! And thank you for the birthday wishes. It was so fun to celebrate with other stitchers. I hope you're feeling much better after your cold too. I finished my Winter ABCs -- maybe we can compare at the next stitching day? Your husband made a good gift of the Susan Branch book!
Hi Deborah! Sounds like you have a fun and full weekend planned. If you are concerned about losing your corner gauge from the created pouch, add a loop and small button on the top of it or a thin piece of Velcro if there is enough room. I am currently working on a SAF of Brittercup Designs Christmas Ornaments II, Mine. Have stitched 2 of the others and plan on stitching the 4th soon. Happy stitching. Dawn in Texas
Greetings from Québec! I just discovered your floss tube and I really enjoy it! think we share a love a French cross stitch designs because I am currently stitching the middle pattern you showed from Véronique Enginger's book! I lived four years in Paris and was lucky enough to meet Véronique! Love her patterns, Perrette Samouiloff's patterns also, and Les brodeuses parisiennes. I will keep watching your videos! Cheers, Geneviève
Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you found the channel. It sounds like we definitely share a love of French cross stitch. All of the designers you mentioned are some of my favorites too. That's so amazing that you got to meet her!
@@kensingtoncrossstitch I used to go to Les brodeuses parisiennes quite often and also to a big yearly craft show called Création et Savoir-faire where les brodeuses and Véronique were present. It is nice to be able to chat with once of your favorite creators. I subscribed many years to Création point de croix and before that to De fil en aiguille, another french cross stitch magazine that was run by Sophie Bester who founded les brodeuses parisiennes
@@genevievedenis6907 I am feeling very jealous right now. 😆 I have a current subscription to Creation Point de Croix, and its so fun to see it arrive each time.
Currently debating if I should renew my subscription. On their web site you can browse through the current magazine and older ones and in some issues I feel there is nothing I want to stitch while in others, several designs catch my eye. There is a new book by Hélène Le Berre coming out at the end of August in France- in Canada it Will be available only at the end of October. It is called Rêves de Japon
@@genevievedenis6907 I've found the same thing: whole issues in which nothing calls to me and then another packed with interesting projects. I keep the subscription in part just to show steady support and also because trying to buy individual issues is more expensive in the end. I figure it evens itself out.
I love the tree you picked up for the advent. I’m stitching on a SAL from LanArte. I also live Veronique’s designs, I think I have 3 of her books so far. I was able to get 2 of them at Joann & 1 on Amazon. Happy Stitching 🧵🪡
For me stitching and having a cuppa nearby goes hand in hand, I just have to accept that there is gonna be a risk of some of the drink getting on the stitching. Thankfully that hasn't happened so far! Glad you had a great time at Stitching at the Farm, and love your Philanthropic Pumpkin! Can't wait to see how you finish it :D love how you're stitching Miss Spider, the fabric choice for her is perfect! I am stitching Villa Mirabilia on 40 count and an alternative to metallic braid (whether it's Kreinik or Petite Treasure Braid) is to use Miyuki size 15/0 beads. Their colour range is so extensive there are alternatives for the Mill Hills. That is what I am going to be doing with my Villa, so it'll work perfectly for you on the 36 count. I'm a planner and tracking nerd. I am using a Passport Sized Traveller's Notebook for my day to day tracking of everything; and then have an official Bullet Journal dot grid notebook to track all my info for my projects. I do think it's important to track that info so that you can refer back to it in the years to come to remind yourself of what you did, what changes you made and inspiration. I want to get those Canon sticker printers too to take photos of my stitching and print them out and stick to the page too! Happy belated birthday too, glad it was a memorable one
Glad to hear I'm not alone in living dangerously with stitching and drinks in close proximity! The Pumpkin has your name on it -- I just have to get it FFOd -- no guarantees on when that will happen. :D Knowing about the Miyuki beads is so helpful, thank you! I was realizing stitching pieces like this is a whole new world for me with lots more to learn, so I always appreciate the info. Dot grid journals are so lovely, aren't they? One of my favorite styles.
I meant to say about you project bag, you did a great job. I love this style too and have exactly the same thoughts as you about the zipper exposure and the binding. I’ve been using bags like this for years and have gotten used to the exposed zipper inside. It doesn’t fray or anything of course, so it’s fine. I also always hand stitch my binding at the final stage because I just like the finish better. I also like the process. It’s a very versatile project bag design.
Hello Deborah, great video, beautiful stitching and sewing, it is really fun! You might have already shown and I just missed it, the second half of Christiane Dahlbeck's 'Ein schönes halbes Jahr' is already out in Germany and it has some adorable designs it. You've gotten me hooked on her books 😂 and I thought you probably don't want to miss out on part 2. Have a great stitchy weekend at home. Zsófi
Thank you so much, Zsófi! I just received my copy of part 2 as well. So many lovely charts in there! Glad to hear I've helped you find a love for her designs as well!
I like the idea of using the tree for your advent calendar. My least favorite thing in quilting is binding. I do not like to sew the binding on the quilt. I sew it on the machine but my corners leave a lot to be desired. I know I need a lot more practice. However I do find it enjoyable to turn the binding over and stitch it down by hand. I kept a diary when I was around 11 or so. I've never journaled but decided to buy the Book of Days for 2024. I must admit the real reason for the purchase is to use stickers. I love stickers. LOL When my son was in elementary school he was rewarded for reading thru McDonald's.
I can understand how you feel about binding! There always seems to be one part of our hobbies that is the one we dislike and just get through, doesn't there? I feel like I build binding up so much in my head as something to dread, so I was glad to be reminded I don't mind it much. On the other hand, I really dislike free motion quilting, so ... I completely agree with you that the primary purpose off journaling i all the sticker too! 😂 And glad to hear you found your own way to reward your son for reading too. It's a fun treat.
Hi. First time I’ve watched your flosstube and I loved it! I’ve been hearing about you lately so it was time to watch. I think your idea for the advent tree is great and it will work beautifully. I had not seen anyone do the temperature chart that you are doing. I want to do that one next year. I’m going to enjoy watching your previous videos.
Deborah!! Greetings from a cooler Dallas! Lol!! It’s been in the 50s and 60s here which is actually a little cooler than usual for this time of year. Another great flosstube from you. So much great stuff! I think the advent star tree will be great! I’ll be looking forward to seeing it finished next time! ❤️
Hello Michael! We're having gloomy and rainy weather here today, though no snow (yet?!). Always good to hear from you, and I hope you have an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday weekend!
Thanks for another great recap! I can’t wait to see your version of The Tree Speaks. Oddly enough, I have been obsessed with mine since I got home and am about 25-30% done. It is a bit prim/ whimsical and different than my norm, but turning out better than I expected. I will need to put her aside and get back to my Embroideress stocking so I won’t have to change the ‘23 to a ‘24! The tree form for your advents (aka 800 retreat finishes🤣) is a great idea and can’t wait to see the FFO. Say hello to the CT crew at your stitch-in tmrw. Happy stitching!
That is fantastic! And I bet you're even further along at this point too -- unless your favorite Embroideress's skirt has kept you enthralled instead? 🤣
I really had fun with the project bags -- and need to make more. :D Daily Flossmas was an experiment which I likely won't repeat, at least every day, again, but I had a lovely time doing it this year!
@@kensingtoncrossstitch it must have been hectic! Your sewing is beautiful, I've not yet got to grips with the sewing machine so I'm very impressed. Happy Christmas!!
Suggestion for project tracking: I add small 2x3 inch photos using my Sprocket printer (Amazon) when my project is complete. Even with all the project information I couldn’t always recall what it looked like when flipping through my book and the photos helped. It’s also a great record for my kids to know when I’ve done a project they will someday inherit and treasure for all days (sarcasm intended). You could add the photos to the back side of your template (pretty paper side) along with photos from a retreat where you started and/or finished the design. At some retreats, I’ve had a photo taken with the designer and had them sign the tracker, too! I love looking back at my projects and see how my styles and choices of fabric and threads have evolved over the years. 😊
Thank you for reminding me of this as an option! I've definitely thought about those printers before, and have hesitated because I think "oh, I'll remember this!" But I think you're right -- over time, that might not be the case. And I love the idea of using it at retreats or if I meet the designer. Back on my list to consider again!
Hi Deborah, ❤ I know you already know how much I enjoy your videos because I tell you all the time. Thank you for the thoughtfulness, organization, time, and care you put into each video. Your retreat soundsbjust perfect. I have never gone to a retreat mainly because they sound hectic and busy like some of the conferences I've attended. However, Stitching at the Farm sounds relaxed. Wonderful flosstube. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you talk about your projects. I think the star card holder and your idea for it sounds great! Go for it! I have added the Susan Branch book to my ever growing list. I think she was big in the crafting world years ago. I recognize her artwork on the pages you showed. The different fonts she used are so pretty. I remember having lots of stickers with her artwork on them and a little tiny notebook.
So glad you enjoyed it! And that's so interesting to know about Susan Branch's artwork on stickers and things. I'll have to see if anything like that is still available too. How fun!
Glad you enjoyed your retreats. Your advent calendar will look amazing. The Supernova is looking great. Good job on the project bag. For tracking my projects, I use the Cross Stitch Journal by Fat Quarter Shop. I am on my 3rd book since I started tracking. I find it very useful. Yours is going to look so cute. My daughters got the Pizza Hut coupons for their reading. I forgot about that. I’m reading a cozy mystery, but also got Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I’ve heard very good things about it. Have you read it ?
So glad to hear the Cross Stitch Journal works well for you, Linda! When you find something that works, keep right on going with it, right? And thank you for the recommendation of Braiding Sweetgrass. It isn't one I had heard of, but it looks so interesting. Another one on the list!
Your retreat sounds perfect. When you sewed the binding to the project bag was the first seam sewn to the back or the front? If I sew to the back first and then topstitch the front down it looks much better. Alternatively Unfinished Stitches tutorial shows her making the back bigger and folding it around to the front in a self-binding technique that seemed to work for her.
Ah, thank you for that! I knew there was some difference between starting on the back v. the front for binding, and I may experiment with that a bit. In this case, I did the first seam on the front. I had originally planned to do the self-binding technique too and changed my mind at the last minute for no real reason. I think I'll give that a try in future too.
Wow, 25 finishes! That might be a new record! 😉 I love the tree that you found and look forward to seeing your finish. You picked up some treasures at the Farm!
I know, I know -- I can't even believe I managed it! 😉 I'm really hopeful about the tree for finishing them, but you never know until you see it done sometimes, right? We missed you at the Farm, but hope to see you again next year!
I love your idea for “The Tree Speaks” Looking forward to seeing your start. Great video!
Ooh! Yay! I'm so glad you think it'll work too. I need to work that one into my 2024 stitching. And thank you for watching!

Glad you're giving me the benefit of 25 finishes instead of 2. :D
