Great video for those who don't know that truck, and for those that do and sometimes forget about it🙄

I'm just stunned that you didn't remove all the debris that could contaminate the gearbox before you removed the seal

      I wiped the area off.

I use a piece of pipe a little larger than shaft to tap seal in place. Keeps seal going in even

The guy that mowed the rocks and small trees at high rpm's with that mower should be the one who replaces the seal. Oh, maybe he is.

That went good! Do you know if the shaft had any play? On my belly mower (Bolens) the gearbox had a loose shaft, I had to remove (or add?) a few shims so the tapered bearing keeps the shaft tight and well centered. Thanks Roger!

The shaft is tight in the gear box.

I’ve watched a few these and I’m a little scared to go to drilling on my gear oil box. My seal is more buried in there tha. yours. If you’re careful could you just spend a little more time and get the old seal off with a screwdriver? Whatever dings and scratches you make doing it can’t be any worse than the ones you make hammering the seal back on IMO but I don’t know for sure obviously.

This video was very helpful; however, I would appreciate information on how you were able to determine which replacement seal to use. The condition of the rotary mower appears to make it difficult to read brand, model and serial number information in order to determine a part number and even manufacturer of the gearbox.

The seal will have numbers on it that will be a part number. Or you can measure the Id of the seal which is the shaft diameter and the OD of the seal which is the ID of the hole in the gear box it sets in. A real parts house will be able to do this for you. Try not to totally destroy it and take it to a NAPA if there good and if you know someone knows what there doing Advance or Orielys can do the same or a hydraulic parts house can and probably has it in stock. Oil seals are oil seals there universal.

We actually were able to figure out the model of the mower. As Nate said the seal should have numbers on it or you can measure it like he said.
