Until Bo Nix proves he can produce in a non-Oregon dump pass system, it is understandable that many people question his ability to succeed in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if Sean Payton had success with Zach Wilson and he ultimately becomes the starter going forward.
"If the games were played on paper I'd have spent a lot less time on the operating table" is the most Mark Schlereth quote ever
He also says “don’t point the finger, pull the thumb” and “ if it smells like 💩 everywhere you go, it must be you”
@@DPRyan-vd5pp Stink is the best lol
I always enjoy his dumb and dumber quote. Stink is the best in the business.
Gotta love Stink, he has such a no nonsense attitude about the game. I also like what he says here about needing good football players. He said about Terrell Davies "he wasn't just a running back he was a great football player" so has always thought that way. Even if your not a Broncos fan it's fun watching him, Shannon Sharpe and TD on the Superbowl 33 Americas Game.
Finally someone that doesn't have an unshakable hatred of Bo Nix

Mark is right, the big difference for Nix is Payton. He was a reach at 12, but because he will be paired with Sean Payton mitigates the reach quite a bit in my mind. The fit for Sean just makes so much sense.
If he had gone to LV or Minny, it'd have been a bigger reach and not a good situation for him
Russell Wilson was a great deep ball thrower that couldn't throw a timing rout or over middle
That’s all he did with Lockett & Baldwin. 🤦🏻♂️
He sucks. Justin Fields is breathing down your neck Mr Wilson…

Bo Nix was a good pic considering the Drew Breeze coach but Estime was the steal. He will wear out the small defensive ends.
I Love to have 3 or 6 Beers with Mark Schlereth! That guy is just a cool dude and a Professor of Football.
When Stink’s excited and hopeful, so am I. Go, Broncos 💙🧡
I've watched Nix at Auburn a little and everything at Oregon (live here), and while you can never say any draft pick is a certainty, Nix is smart, amazingly accurate, CAN throw the deep ball despite what folks say, and is great in the locker room. I'm a huge Bears fan and am pumped about what could be, but I'd love to see Nix do well.
I’m a broncos fan and am really excited to watch you guys this year. Caleb + Odunze is an awesome pairing and the free agency moves you guys made were great too
As a Bears fan, I have never been more excited to watch our offense lol
Another promising QB for bears....never heard that one before.
The thing with a pick like the Bears had is it needs to work. If your 1 pick at QB is a bust it sets your franchise back another 3-4 years

Mark's point about drafting B quarterbacks over A talent at other positions is spot on. The Lions got clowned for taking Sewell over Fields, but Sewell is arguably the cornerstone of that franchise now while Fields is 3 years away from being out of the league
Great point
Lions didn't get clowned for that pick at all.

Bo does have a way stronger arm than the pundits would like to admit
its for sure not weak...not a cannon but its plenty strong...he also has great touch ...ya msm is so out of touch...
Bust
So basically he's kinda like Goff. There were times where Goff's arm was the limiting factor. It sounds like Nix's comp is a Goff or Alex Smith type QB

Allen is 32 this year and isn't known for being the healthiest. It makes sense why you go with Rome. If Rome does good you can put that money towards an OT or DE in FA.
exactly!! it always bugs me when people talk about the draft as if it's a 1 year proposition.... like who cares if they just got Keenan Allen, he's not a guy who will be tied at the hip to Caleb for years to come, not a guy who will grow with the team as they do.... Keenan is a 1-2 year veteran pickup to help a young QB, Odunze is a 5-10 year pickup who will be Caleb's go-to guy for the next decade as they grow together..... heck i even remember people in 2007 being like "why did the Vikings draft Adrian Peterson when they already have Chester Taylor?!?!" LOL

What are you 12?
lol John elway is the last big arm I ever witnessed
Patrick mahomes,Josh Allen or Aaron Rodgers?
Josh Allen
60-65 yards in the air, across his body running right, hits receiver opposite side of the field. And Elway could run and push John Dutton, run over Brian Bosworth. It wasn’t a penalty to hit Elway like it is to lay hands on Mahomeboy. Can’t do that.
Jay cutler had a cannon and he was drafted by denver
I think Bo Nix has the game experience and maturity over all of the other QBs selected. Watching him talk to the media, he is smart and mature with an inner confidence without a need to boast. I think he will do well for Denver under coach Payton. I think Caleb is WAY over confident and will end up eating his boasts. Bears have a track record of destroying young and promising QBs.
What organization would say “ya nah, I wish we had that other guy that got drafted just before”
on point, the same thing in baseball pitchers velocity is good but command and accuracy is better
Isn’t a “big arm” for more than deep balls? I always thought that was important for throwing darts into tight coverage with a pass rusher in your face
Absolutely. Watch Penix highlights - he throws lasers when needed, and those lasers make INTs into touchdowns.
Mark - with all due respect, what a strong arm gives a team is velocity - the ball gets to the receivers before defenders do. This is what made John Elway so good. His passes were on a rope. I love Gary Kubiak, God Bless him, but the receiving corps used to call his passed medicine balls because they would come in on an arc so that a receiver would take a hit with the catch - and need medicine afterwards, lol. Let’s hope Bo Nix is great. You’re right - Montana, Brady even Troy Aikman, none of them had John Elway type arm strength. I think Mahones does though.
Arm strength has more to do with velocity throwing into tight windows than throwing 70-yard balls. They are completely disregarding the importance of arm strength.
Bo did great threading balls in tight windows at Oregon.
Name the top five quarterbacks in NFL history
Yea I know. Legitimately hurt me to listen to a former NFL player talk about how a big arm only means how far you can throw it.
You are describing Dan Marino, Jeff George, and Drew Bledsoe
@@cjcurtis8944lol
I've been waiting for Mark's take...
I love the Broncos and I love listening to Stink!
I love Schlereth
It's my understanding that next years nfl draft will be VERY talented on defensive line, it might be like O line or even wide receiver deep in this years draft. That is why I was happy for bears to go offense on both first round pics this year, and if it comes to be, bears and teams will be able to load up on D line next year.
Schlereth said it best, "The offensive line is the spear head of the offense". Many forget that when the offensive line of the Dallas Cowboys disappeared: Troy Aikman got sacked numerous times and had to retire due to concussions and Emmitt Smith was not himself anymore.
Stink speaks Facts. Offensive Line is the Tip of the Spear.
I saw Nix nail a 58 yard pass and the reciever caught over the outside shoulder.
I'm tired of the Offensive vs Defensive Coaches argument. It doesn't make much sense anymore, it's like OCs and DCs play no part.
Take care man have a good summer!
Colin: yeah.
😂
Bo Nix reminds me of Brian Griese. He can get us out of the cellar, but I think he has a hard ceiling. We're quite a ways from that, so he'll be fine for now. Arm strength isn't as important early in the game, on first down, and between the 20s. However, late in the game, on third down, and in the red-zone is what you pay QBs for. That's where John Elway's arm strength paid off. Of course there are exceptions, and I'm sure I'll hear about them now. :)
Stink is the bomb!!
He has a point. The post pattern has almost been eliminated, mainly because the running game is gone. Defenses can play back.
First guy to not like our 9 pick. I love it!! Means we did the right thing, instead of the same old.
100%
I'm on board. WR are extremely overrated and overpaid and there's a huge supply of them.
Should of got that Jets oline pick. Caleb better start going vegan, cuz he about to be eating a lot of grass. Just like Fields.
@@SmellyVinegaryBallzach The big difference is - caleb knows how to throw with anticipation and get the ball out FAST. 2 thing that Fields continues to struggle with.
I love Nix but for Mark to totally disregard arm strength is just short-sighted. It’s not just about how far they can throw it. It’s about having the insane fast ball to sling balls into split-second windows, like Mahomes and Allen can do. Those 2 guys have converted more crucial 3rd down plays than we can count because of their huge arms
Great take I've always thought the greatest benefit of a strong arm isn't how far a quarterback can throw the ball but the velocity which enables them to throw deep outs against tight coverage or be able to get the ball quicker to the receiver so he can do something with it or protect himself.
The best situation for a quarterback is Denver 😂😂😂😂
Laughing at your own low? 😂😂😂
Not for "a quarterback", for Bo Nix. It has to do with a) how well he fits Payton's system b) the fact that Denver has a top 10 O-line and c) that he'll likely be able to start right away. Sure, KC would be a great place to play... but you won't play there.
I mean, the league is definitely becoming more offensive focused, but this was a very deep offensive draft and not a great defensive one it kind of made sense that a lot of offensive players are taken they did shatter the records though in the first round so that was a bit bit unexpected but I wasn’t that surprised. I expected the record to be broken this year.
The best situation is Denver, more than Minnesota? I think someone might have a bias here lol. Heck I would take Penix in Atlanta if it wasn't for Cousins.
Penix has the Philip Rivers release.
Broncos got the better coach and they are the better run franchise
@@johnhuston650That release will launch the ball 30+ yards farther than dink and dunk Nix.
Nix had better stats than Penix in every single category. 😂😂😂
@@watchmesquatch I think Denver got a good QB for their system... but Penix is a better passer, no question.
Colin is obsessed with Bo Nix. Soooooo many segments about Bo Nix.
Because he threw 45 TDs and only 3 INTs and only 5 sacks. 9.6 Yard Average, 4,500 yards, 77% completion. All leagues better than the QBs taken ahead of him. Just call yourself a casual next time.
@@watchmesquatch Colin… is that you?
Yes they did want Bo nix. Look for the interview
I don’t know mark, not too many weeks ago on your radio show you called Bo Nix “captain bubble screen” or something to that effect. Said he had no pro ready attributes
Arm strength isn't just about throwing it 60 yards. It's about being able to threaten the defense so they have to defend the entire field and it's also about the velocity that the throws reach their target with. The quicker the throw gets there the less time the defense has to react.
Schlereth is still thinking about the in the NFL 20 years ago. If you're stacked at receiver it allows you to motion guys and find matchup nightmares for defenses. Chip blocks will quickly change defenders (edges) minds. Quarterbacks that play with timing don't need the most stellar line. The Bears have a manageable line and they have upgraded at center and tackle. Of course I would like a better left tackle but they chose a wide receiver who is a game changer. Caleb is going to have so many options. They can run a 11 or 12 set which will cause defenses headaches. Imagine having to cover Moore, Allen, Odunze, Kmet and Everett with Swift in the backfield. They can also choose to run out of this set as Allen and Everett and Kmet are above average blockers.
They picked the last QB of the top six available. How can you possibly say they got the guy to they wanted all along?
Because there was plenty of reporting before that draft that Denver was specifically interested in Nix. Watch any of the Joel Klatt mock draft videos for instance.
OMG!!!!! The audio is up, again!!!!!!
Bears got a Great OT prospect at 75 in 3rd round, Kiran Amegadjie . I call him Pancake ! Just look at the tape . Allowed just 1 sack, 2years ago at Yale . They'll coach him up, and be starting LT next year .
I watched A Lot of games of Bo Nix and Caleb Williams. Bo is way better--and time will prove it
The offensive line does need the Russell Wilson to not hold the ball though😁. Love Mark, bring him back a lot!
Tom Brady also played with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Mike Evans is definitely a deep threat and needs to be talk in the same breath as the great ones
1:47 The last time I saw someone throw it 67 yards for a touchdown in the air? It must have been Terry Bradshaw in the mid-to-late 1970s... which was probably the only time anyone's ever done it.
GI wonder why he doesn't have a problem with Harbaugh's Offensive line acquisitions
I kind of disagree with him on the teams picking offense before defense because if you look at the Bears last 10 drafts, I think most of them were defensive players and real good players but without their offense, they never got anywhere
lol I just looked up John Elway and he’s two years older than me
Stink the 🐐
What does best fit even mean besides Payton will have him stay in the pocket and check down
No - it means he'll get the ball to the receiver in the middle of the field on time which is something RW failed to do. Anyone that watched the broncos saw how many plays Wilson left on the field because he didn't see it.
Wasn't the lack of a "big arm" the knock on Joe Montana?
Stink!! 💪💪
How long is it going to take Colin to learn to correctly pronounce Odunze
Both of our offensive tackles are above average. The only reason we should’ve possibly considered taking an offensive lineman at nine is if Joe fell to us and we wanted to get prolifically good left tackle. Keenan Allen is on a one year deal and our third wide receiver is a very unproven guy. I think it was absolutely the smart decision to take the best player available especially when it’s at a position of relative need like receiver this is for the future not right now.
@4:04 the cheifs throw deep balls all the time and now they have Xavier worthy to help them do it even more. It amazes me the stuff they say sometimes
I use to say the same thing that deep ball for QBs is so overrated nobody throws 80 yards air TDs. Really touch on the ball and having enough strength to push outside the numbers is what’s important (obviously accuracy)
Just one time in a game and usually your losing it’s called a Hail Mary
@@asstasticyeager5402 yeah and how many times do QB connect on a Hail marry? I bet you the % is lower then 15 if we counted all the Hail Marys ever thrown in the nfl. Like why would me and stink be thinking of a play that isn’t even effective 50% of the time and teams barely use. Some teams go a whole yr without using a Hail Mary 😂😂
If your QB can't throw it past 30 yards then the defense doesn't have to worry about getting beat deep and can move it's safeties up. While a QB with the ability to throw deep can stretch the defense and keep the safeties honest.
@@troywest7045 well duh brother obviously I’m not saying have 0 are strength 😂😂. Bruh i played football and QB for a yr. You 100% need to be able to push the ball down the field. But for example ppl use to say Mac jones had a noodle arm cuz he couldn’t launch deep balls. But Mac jones can throw 30 yards just fine. His problem he had no touch on the ball. He couldn’t tell when to put zip on the ball or air on it. And he had no strength to push the ball outside the numbers. But throwing the ball straight down field. I’ve seen Mac throw 50 yards comfortably in game. And ppl still said he had a baby arm cuz he wasn’t throwing rockets down field like Josh or Herbert. Which my pt is once again you don’t need that to be a good QB. Be accurate have good touch on the ball. And be strong enough to push the ball outside the numbers. Far more important then being able to launch a ball 70 yards lol
Of course Mark says the Bears should have drafted an OL at 9 lol
And yet he still wants to say that defensive head coaches are conservative about their offense. Well sorry , Bears are giving Caleb weapons to air it out and we have running backs who do more than just plod forward for 2 or 3 yards.

Totally misrepresented the argument by Mark. Bo Nix needs to have a strong arm so he can get the ball to his target quickly. Nobody is asking him to throw 65-70 yards. Caleb has the best arm and it’s not close
He don't have a stronger arm than Maye bro.
Drake Maye is arguably the most overrated QB in the draft. McCarthy threw 61 mph at the combine and Joe Milton 62 mph. Drake Maye was throwing hard at the combine but J.J. was professional and showed his ability at his Pro Day.
Joe Milton has the strongest arm and threw 62 mph at the combine. J.J. McCarthy threw the ball 61 mph at the combine. Caleb Williams didn't throw at the combine and was lobbing balls to teammates at his Pro Day. Caleb has a good arm but not elite. He does not have as strong of an arm as Justin Herbert or Patrick Mahomes.

Why is he talking like arm strength is about throwing deep go routes, those are lob passes. Arm strength is about drilling deep bullet passes like deep outs and deep post routes. It's about throwing it on a rope. Not 67 yards in the air. It's about velocity.
Mark is a homer. Best situation, Bo Nix…..😂😂😂😂!
He definitely sounded like he was hoping for something when it came to the arm, strength argument as well. I’m shooting helps, especially if things develop late, or if the quarterback sees the open window late, and he has the arm to get the ball in the window. So I can be just as important, especially when things are not on schedule…

That’ll be the Bears problem, that o line is going to get eaten up and all those weapons will start getting pissy that the rookie QB isn’t getting them the ball. Swift will be out by week 8
Feels like the only QB Sean Payton had success with is future HOF Drew Brees. He came to Denver cocky and got humbled, and also made sure to blame Russ for all of it along the way.
