One thing I like about Adam discussing "past work" is that he "name drops" those he worked /collaborated with, irrespective of where they stood /stand in the "hierarchy"
I 100% agree. I love the he just genuinely enjoys the process, warts and all, even when or perhaps especially when something didn’t go particularly right or perfectly to plan. Mainly, I’m simply floored at how well his name recall actually works for who what where and when when retelling these stories.
I love that too, and he never has a bad word to say about anyone (I assume the people he dislikes he just doesn't mention!). I wonder how many people owe a successful career to Adam Savage, I'm sure it's a lot.
I love that Adam has been around so many Aussies that whenever he says "Sydney Australia" his accent turns into this weird hybrid of American and Australian. Accents are so fun.

Adam was my Model Making 1 teacher. Still know how to make space ships out of styrene sheets because of him!! He got some tv job or he could have been model 2 teach also 😊 Such a great teacher and inspiring…as we all know now because we watch his channel.
I went to ILM when I was looking at transitioning from becoming a dentist to become a VFX artist. I got an awesome tour of the facility including the stages and the model shop. It changed my life, I had found my purpose. Pan was in production at that time and I saw some of the ships. Such inspiring work. My dream was to work at ILM as a kid from the peninsula. Sadly, the opportunity never lined up, but I have loved every minute of my career. I love everything you are doing and thank you for creating so much magic that has inspired so many of us to pursue our dreams of spending our life in the arts.
My dad started working on pan at the same time . He also built the model for the interceptor that they blew up for pirates . I believe he helped with the rigging on the ship for pan . I respect the decision to never get back into big special effects. But, but, if they ever make a movie off of one of Brandon Sanderson many wonderful books I hope you would take the job if offered. It would delight me in such a huge way to see your name in the credits with a author I love and writes books that seem right up your wheel house. Thanks for another great Q&A.
Well he doesn't need to be an FX director to participate. He expressed his love for making hero props before. Imagine an One Day Build of a Shardblade to be used in the movie. He could make Oathbringer.
Adam, I love that whenever you're asked about "bad experiences" or anything in a similar vein, you find some way to pivot your response to something positive. Like your 'Bicentennial Man' story and many others I can't recall right now. It is an admirable quality and a thing worth emulating.
When you said, "We delivered the particle accelerator, and Peter Reuben was the art director..." my mind heard that as Paul Reuben, and I had this visual of you delivering an IRL particle accelerator to Pee-Wee - which sounds like it could have been the set up for an amazing mad-cap comedy script.

Did Josie Mayday really ask if you would ever be an effects director? I thought the question was more general than that. Or was some of the question not said out loud?
I suspect it would be extremely difficult, and painful, given the ownership changes in and around Discovery. Then there’s the fact that they’re still focused on legacy television distribution that none of us watch now. I also suspect taking the name anywhere else would be too costly to be worth it.
