    I have been in law enforcement most of my life, saying this only to make a point. This man shared good tips. Awareness is the key to safety. Avoid putting yourself into potentially dangerous situations. If your instincts tell you something doesn’t feel right, listen. Avoid wherever or whatever it is, whether it’s a store, gas station or person etc. Don’t be a hero. I don’t care if you live at the range, people including well trained veteran Cops and for that matter Navy Seals, get killed in deadly confrontations. I tell my own family the same. That gun is to protect you and your loved ones as a last resort, not take down an active shooter. I encourage good folks to carry something for protection, but if you do, train and know your skill level. Be prepared for the physical and legal consequences if force must be used. Lastly, if force is used, hire an attorney immediately. Keep name and number handy. Do not provide statements to anyone without attorney being present. Innocent people defending themselves nowadays seem to end up getting prosecuted by radical political DA’s.

      The thing is, "trust your feelings" about the scene could lead to racial tendencies. People are constantly being taught this is the wrong attitude. Obviously, I'm an advocate of doing what you feel right - not what people expect you to do... but with today's media I certainly can see how some can just ignore warning signs thinking they are doing the right thing.

At least; that's what I've said hundreds of times, since approx. 1969-70, when I first heard the comment. Yes I'm an old (67 yr's) dog, with some bite still left in him.
      Approx. same time period, "If I want any (four letter word $- hit) Human Excrement out of you, I'll squeeze your "F-ing head."" WARNING, don't say that, unless you got the "STONES" to back it up.

    • @ladamyre1
      @ladamyre1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      That's a false comparison. It takes me at most 1/2 second to rack my slide. Your seatbelt comparison is more like having a round in the chamber after you're already shot.
      Military doctrine is to never have a round in the chamber unless one is on alert. Having a round in the chamber introduces the danger of a negligent discharge and that's why the Army, Airforce, Navy and Marines all adhere to the practice of carrying WITHOUT a round in the chamber. If a soldier is walking his post at night with his rifle slung over his shoulder, *that chamber will be empty unless the base is on alert.*
      If you are truly that scared that 1/2 second racking your slide is gonna wind up killing you, and so you are going to be walking around with a loaded pistol in your pocket, I want to know who you are so I can keep my distance from you.

    These 3 great tips reminded me of from my favorite sailplane instructor, who literally wrote a book on flight safety for the FAA: On the sign above the chalkboard in his small classroom: “In a crisis situation, you are not going to rise to the occasion, you are going to sink to the level of your training.” After introducing him to a new student pilot who was visibly in awe: “I have thousands of hours of flight time in my logbook. But I’ve never flown a perfect flight yet. I’m still training to fly better. I’m really a student pilot too.”

    Great video! One minor objection based on personal experience: When I first started carrying, I did not have a round in the chamber. You are right; I did not have the confidence in my firearm nor in my abilities with it. I was concerned (perhaps irrationally so) that I would accidentally injure myself or others. So, for the few few months, I carried with an empty chamber--all the while building my confidence and working toward having one in the pipe. It wasn't the ideal situation, but I maintain that it was far better than not having a weapon at all. I have no regrets, though a million keyboard warriors harshly disagree with me. Now, I always have one chambered.
    Thank you for the very informative points in this video. They were all well-made.

      I felt the same way after acquiring my first pistol. My P365 doesn't have a safety, so it was a few days before I felt safe having it loaded in my home, a couple weeks (and a few trips to the range) before I felt comfortable with having a round chambered in the house, and a few more weeks before I had the confidence and training to carry concealed with a round chambered. Growing in confidence & competence is a process. As long as you're showing proper respect for your firearm and handling it safely at all times, even though I feel strongly about being chambered at all times, it's better to have a gun unchambered than to not have one at all in a time of need.

    Completely agree with all 3 mistakes, and I think the 4th mistake is to feel "safe" when carrying a weapon. A gun will give you a false sense of security and can get you into situations that you would be better off to walk away. A gun does not make you "Superman/Woman" - think before you act, look at your surroundings, analyze and walk/run away if necessary confrontation is the last resource.

Thing is, someone can count how many rounds you fire and if they know their weapons can rush you after the last round. Great training in Sa had cops reload a six gun after every shot while they were re positioning. After shot six the bad guy would rush in, but not successfully!

Cops who are often better trained than civilians, still only have an average of an 18% hit ratio when firing under stress. Thanks. I stopped carrying the "extra round" after Fighting Pistol. That just required an extra step every time I loaded and unloaded my pistol and a different set of motions. So my mag in the pistol is one round short because that round is in the chamber. But it helps to develop consistent muscle memory because every time I insert a mag I tap and rack. No deviation. That just made sense to me.

    • @Drebole
      @Drebole 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      An empty chamber is only a club that turns into a firearm in 1 second of fracking the slide. Terrible analogy. That being said on my duty Glock there is always one less in my magazine on duty because I chamber and unchamber the round every day. This is fantastic in that not only do I dry fire and function check it every day, but it's a little reminder that god forbid today I may have to use it and to never let my guard down.
      As for my XDM compact personal carry (far less likely I will ever need it) there is always 1 in the chamber and a loaded compact mag (14 rounds) accompanied by a loaded full size mag (19 rounds).

I also ask if they carry inside of their home and tell them that the moment I get out of bed I'm carrying . Love the ones who say they have guns hidden around the house . I point out that they probably won't have time to get it if their front door is kicked open .

      While I agree w everything you said , esp about extra ammo, not so much about guns around the house. I have them around the house, but not hidden or hard to get to. They are strategically staged in every room of the house. If my door is kicked in, I'm within arms reach of one no matter the room I'm in. Of course good luck making it to my door without me knowing your on the property well before. Now if they're a person that own's one or two weapons and stash's them in odd hard to get to hiding spots then I agree it would be better keeping it on you.

    Good advice . I went round and round with my buddy because he refused to carry or even see the benefit of condition 1 carry. That second or few seconds could get you killed if you need to pull and shoot. Tensed up situations can make racking your slide very difficult. A cop asked me if my gun was loaded once and if a round was chambered and seemed indignant that a civilian would carry in condition 1. In a life or death gun fight EVERYTHING is stacked against you. Train and train some more from the clearing clothes and drawing to fire just don't put holes in paper. Good channel, i think we live in the same area in Georgia.

      Survival On Purpose a gun is absolutely a weapon. By definition. However I believe when carrying, a person must consider themselves as the weapon and the gun as a tool. Meaning, they should only utilize that tool when absolutely necessary. Never relying on their gun provide any sort of pride or position. Flashing a gun at someone is illegal for a reason. I currently wear my MAGA hat everywhere but recently have decided not to wear it while carrying. I think I have a responsibility to myself and to the public to be as diligent as possible. I don’t want anyone to lose their life over the fact that I am carrying. Only when absolutely necessary should someone consider their gun. A complete last resort.

    I agree 100%. Never stop training. It builds compedence & confidence. Always train with the SAME weapon. Prior to carry put several thousand rounds through it. Never buy. Wespon& start carrying it IMMEDIATELY! A potentially fatal mistake. Make sure your weapon IS RELIABLE, doesn't fail to load or eject and train with your CARRY ammo as point of simb& recoil is most likely than your range ammo.
