Really excellent assembly video with remarkably clear camerawork and narration. Compared to the Folbot and similar lines with aluminum and plastic parts, this is a really solid wood and metal product. Those latches and pins will easily outlast plastic and Velcro connections. Nice to see the rings are large enough for cold fingers, though the tricky part looks to be assembling the cockpit area frame obscured from view. Working in real time, the owner needs 24 minutes to assemble the kayak, and then at 24 minutes he assembles the rudder. Not many of us are going to do this for a couple of hours on the pond or river - but those undertaking expeditions could trust their lives to this product.

Superb boat for wilderness expedition. Yes it is heavy yes it is work to assemble and disassemble. These boats are for tough people that don't whine.

Thanks for the video... it made my first assembly go much quicker. I can't wait to paddle the Mark 1 Expedition on my solo trip in Alaska and Canada this summer ~ LeConte Glacier Bay (7 days), Glacier Bay East Arm (10 days), Russell Fjord (10 days), Harlequin Lake (5 days), Kenai Fjords (21 days), Maligne Lake (5 days).

This looks like an absolutely awesome bit of kit clearly built to last. Maybe add a circlip to the bottom of the rudder pin though? If it comes out then parts of the rudder are going in the drink. Also maybe use metal rod epoxied in instead of screws might save on wear somewhat. Anyway that's my 2 penneth. Keep up the good work very impressive.

This is a high quality product, not a Lego set! This is THE best folding kayak out there at the moment...peroid! Oh...yeah hard-shells may well be cheaper...but the POINT IS...you can fit this in your car, travel on a plane with it as luggage, hell take it on a bus!!!....and it will STILL fit in your closet! You'll spend more money renting a garage or buying a bigger house with ya 'ardshell!!!!!

Agreed!!! Don't forget highly seaworthy and the ONLY kayak special forces use... Plus a 5 year warranty, good luck finding that with a plastic boat?

I have a Folbot Cooper, which is lighter, longer, and faster, but certainly can't carry as much. I will seriously consider this boat when looking for more capacity.

I had a 17' Folbot back in the day. The construction was very similar to this boat. The primary difference was in the gunwhales and the combing. The Folbot did not have "formal" gunwhales but used an aluminum tube to form the junction with the hull section. I very much like the wooden rods that Long Haul uses to support the skin from the formers. I have a later 17' Folbot that uses cast aluminum formers (wish I had kept the old boat). Again the aluminum tubes are less robust than the Long Haul version. Have had a lot of fun with these boats. Were I considering a sailing rig, I would absolutely choose the Long Haul.

All u got to buy is fish finder, trolling motor, battery, satellite radio, speakers, two lantern lights front and back, a fish finder dip stick. I forget what I all mention but still probably less then a 1000 for all that stuff and you could still sell for 6000. If you went commercial and got rid of wood frame woth plastic and metal and fiberglass. Maybe around 3,000 for boat cost less sell more cost more sell less.. uh 3,500ish be about what anyone be willing to pay for this if it had all the stuff I mentioned well maybe 4500ish this is alot of upgrades

  • @williamhill9545

Ok maybe no foot pedals since we have pedal drive the pedal drive is in the kayak goes out up and over up to the front of the boat and down I to the water to drive the propeller that pole needs supports. Maybe one foot pedal as a brake to help stop the boat.. the ruter in the back would be controlled by a thing by your side by your hand.. idk how sails work soooo.. again pedal drive does just drop down its on a pole that goes out and under over to the front of the boat.. we need side riders for stabilitity.. we also need in board sliders so the boat ain't supported by hinges.. side mount trolling motor uh
Maybe make a boat from hard plastic panels two sides and s heat of metal in between the plastic and bolted together to make a sturdy board.. idk what you'd use for the piles Maybe pvc pipe that has been filled with something to make them more sturdy? Idk
I'm looking at menards right now for some of this stuff..
Basically got the fabric cover and hardshell fold up for under side of boat to go.. and the inflatable safety ballons.. got to figure out the ruter..
Like ruter hanging of back pedal motor hanging of front side riders a sail a trolling motor side mount pedal drove inside kayak foot pedal for braking to side of that hand controlled ruter steering. Idk how to do the breaking system Maybe somewhat like outriggers I'd guess. Want kayak steak a kayak oar fish finger with transducer dip stick satelite radio and hang 2 lanterns front and back. Speakers..
Would love to use the pedal drive to also steer the boat kind of just tilt your feet and pedal and I guess the side router controller could be used for sail applications this way I can pedal and steer while holding a fishing pole. Would love 2 pole holders slanted back from the seat along with active pole holders -yaktrak..
Since boat is raised would need to elevate the seat up a little need locking system for seat instead of just straping it down
Needs non inflatable kayak cover needs front and rear storage compartments from top
Needs the zipper thing on back half of.cover stretch wet proof material under stretch wet proof over makes like a bag pocket woth zipper flaps inside so you can easily slide frame in then zip it up and pull both under and over fabrics to roll up like bag behind seat.. frame would be more simplied this way with just two halfs instead.maybe but would need additional supports..
Fold up thin hard body for under boat body folds up and only folds up to top of boat only much then gets sides of it strapped together.. maybe a solar panel behind seat of back portion of upper body and flood light bar by seat area

Cool. The main thing is that if people like it, it's there for them. I, however, will stick with my Trak. One test paddle would show someone that it is well worth the price.

The Oru has no rudder option and a max payload of 400lb. That's fine and dandy for playing in a light surf, but when you realize that the usable payload is about 300 all but the lightest paddlers can't use them for touring. Also, they have no rudder option, sail mount etc. The Oru is a fine boat for recreational use, but not for serious touring or fishing use. I fish out of mine in the gulf of Alaska and Bering sea, and I use a klepper (original design that long-haul is based off of). It has a 1klb weight capacity and can bring back two decent sized halibut.

@@justintempus7406 I also saw that the Oru collects water inside the corrugation -- I'm trying to buy a collapsable - and I'm liking the looks of klepper or folbot.

I'd do Inflatable thing as a safety measure and do fold up hard shell bottom and make the boat deeper to make it float right on the water. Inflatable thing if boat tips or starts to sink it won't sink all the way. Heavy waterproof fabric too maybe hardshell is just like strap onto boat instead of being permanently there like you got your heavy duty fabric rack and right at the end you strap the thin hard shell to bottom and fold it up over to top of boat and then secure the hardshell lining.. this is why you make the boat deeper becuase of fabric sag.. not inflatable under side and boat should still float this way the inflation part is for ballons inside the boat

Plus an anchor mount and fish finder transducer mount some people aren't to bright an just attach the thing straight to the boat leaks leaks leaks get a transducer drop stick pole

you sure don't know very much about sea kayaking! this is an apples-to-oranges comparison. a hard-shell kayak (while cheaper) has a lot of limitations. people who understand sea kayaking know which type of kayak is best for the type of conditions they expect to encounter. if you just want to day-paddle on a local lake, hard shell kayaks are a good deal. however, if you want to do a 10-14 day remote expedition, with wind and swells, this is by far the safest type of kayak.

  • @williamhill9545
    @williamhill9545 ปีที่แล้ว

Man zip top and straps on back half of cover that'll make frame assembly way easier plus under the back half on the under top side put like a stretch waterproof fabric zippers are never a good thing and then on the outside se thing too this will put the zipper inside like a bag but you'd still be able to zip it up. Then you take top part and bottom part from under zipper and roll it up and strap it down right behind seat, this will make frame assembly maybe just two halfs instead of like all that front portion and back portion. Woth hard plastics and metal and fiberglass poles I'd be down to buy if you did this plus it'd be cheaper cuz it'd be commercial

Absolutely ridiculous.
