    I loved this video! I have one of these that I found in an old abandoned pot amongst some dying cacti, that had been there for at least 2 years before i moved into the property it was on. It was brown and looked dead, but I chucked it in a pot anyway along with the cacti, and it actually came back to life! I couldn't believe it. It had suffered thru 2 years of extreme Australian weather with no care. I've had it for about 1.5 years now and it's given me so many pups I can't count them. Brilliant little plant. Nice to learn a bit about it, thanks mate 😊 👍

    Some species tend to shrivel naturally during the hot and dry summer. Those also tend to die from root rot or other root pests and diseases. It is often masked by the seasonal shriveling and I notice it too late. Do you have few of those cases for which you can make a video on how to save them?

    • @johnnyAGardening
      @johnnyAGardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cooperi types will shrink if they do not get enough water, they do not need a lot, but shrinking leaves is a sign of lack of water. HOWEVER, check the potting soil for drainage as it does need to drain freely and almost dry between waterings. If this does not seem to be the case let us know.

    Hi Johnny. HELP!!! I am so envious of your beautiful and HEALTHY plants. I do have about 80 plants but we dont have that selection in UK even on the internet that you sell. They are gorgeous. BUT I dont understand what I'm doing wrong with my compost. Yours, even after a couple of years is free flowing. Mine is great till I water them but then the compost goes like liquid cement, then goes hard as it dries. It dries quite quickly. I was using a tiny baked clay and potting compost with perlite but although they didn't die, the roots didn't grow down at all. I have 20 of these particular glass pane beautiful plants from leaf cuttings (because I soaked the mother plant and it's roots turned to mush) but only half are really thriving. I want my compost to be lose and full of air but damp. I repotted 2 weeks ago using:
    50% loan based john innes 2
    20% pumice
    10% granite grit
    10% horticultural sand.
    What am I doing wrong? The John innes 2 loam seems to have a lot of very fine sand so maybe not the best idea for UK damp dark conditions 😖 . Many thanks

    • @johnnyAGardening
      @johnnyAGardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You really need to use a succulent mix as the base, NOT the John Innes
      This is the mix used in the video, so it is a succulent mix with additives.

      Firstly they are slow growers. Do not over water, morning sun is enough. A little fertiliser. And remember that these are winter growers (summer dormant). If you are doing all of that, maybe repotting. A little lime in the fertiliser can also be beneficial.
