      You could use RGB lights but I decided to go with only white light because it looks great with this particular type of stone.

    You have definitely given the wife something to add to my honey-do list! for the sink, how do you drain it? did you have to connect to the sink drain on the inside?

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott, we got lucky because the kitchen sink is just on the other side of the wall from the outdoor sink. I had a plumber connect the outdoor plumbing into the kitchen including the drain. At the same time we ran a gas line from the stove to the grill. This project was on my honey-do list for years. Finally got it done!

    Hi John.. We are looking to have this for raised bed 8x8 area with 10 inch height, can we use these backlit panels? Not sure as stone considered so fragile, will there be any gaps remains between stone and panels which may cause stone to crack?

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the panels are installed properly, nice and flat… I don’t think you will have any problems. The panels create a strong, stable surface and there is no gap between stone and panels

  • @fizz9337

    Looks great! In the video, I saw that you used a white product between the light panel and the marble panel. Wouldn't it block the light transmission of the light panel to the marble panel?

  • @3dsman

    Looks great! I would have absolutely used RGB though as I have a soft spot for Turkish Discos. ;-) All joking aside I think I would have just dropped the wires for each panel into a hole and wired it all up from the underside. That might have been a bigger nightmare but routing slots in the wood seemed like it might have been one of the most difficult parts of your project! Any regrets about not lighting the backsplash? I noticed it and before I do my project it's got me thinking. Hmmm. I looked but didn't see the LED drivers in your info section... who makes those? I'd like to find ones that support RGB and Alexa. I'm a home automation nutjob and have most of my house setup to do crazy stuff. Something to do. ;-) I enjoyed the video a lot btw... you have a spectacular house and view in your backyard!! Very jealous!! The music was pretty cool too. Cheers! PS: Your wife better have some honey-do's on her list now since you did this amazing work!!😁

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yes I considered drilling holes and running all the wires underneath the plywood. Decided against that because I didn’t want a mess of wires which would be more likely to get damaged. The routed channels for wires & connectors are very protected from the elements and rodents. Also, it would be really difficult to do the wiring from below, because the space is very tight.

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t recall the specifics on the LED driver because SLABLite sent me one along with the panels. I’m not at the house now but will take a photo of the driver next time I’m there. If I recall correctly it is a Meanwell power supply

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  ปีที่แล้ว

      A lit backsplash would be cool, but I had to draw the line somewhere (too much work! Lol) I considered doing it, but didn’t like the idea of exposed top edge of LED panel showing behind the backsplash.

    What do you do if your light under onyx countertop stops working! Do I have to break the onyx or replace it to change the light? Please advise

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would definitely be a problem. The only thing to do would be to attempt to lift the stone without breaking it. The stone installers used more glue than needed, so it might be very difficult. I was very careful with the wiring and I tested each panel, each step of the way so that at least there should not be a failure or short due to faulty wiring. The indoor island countertop which we installed 6 years ago is still working great. No LED failures yet🤞. Fortunately the SLABLite panels are reliable.

      @@johnseaman3859 I wonder what electroluminescent (EL) wire would do for a project like this. Wouldn't get that even light and not be as bright, but you can introduce curves like with neon tubing and it uses less power than LED. At least when it burns out you can just snake new wire through your routed channels and have it come out in a discreet location.

    I have the slablites in the garage and quartzite at the installer. May I ask for details on the undermount sink? Normally the undermount sink would be connected to the quartzite with a gasket sealing the sink to the quartzite. The Slablite will make the gap too big for a gasket, how did you seal it? How does it looK? Thank you!

    • @johnseaman3859
      @johnseaman3859  ปีที่แล้ว

      Apologies for the late reply! The sink is under mounted and supported with a pair of sink brackets which are attached to the structure’s frame. The brackets are apparently not currently available on Amazon, but here is the link www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00478JI3G?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
      I installed the panels to the edge of the sink cutout on the plywood. The sink itself, and the hole in the stone are a bit smaller than the cutout, so the sink is sealed in the standard way, directly to the underside of the stone.
