    Well said Phil👍
Had a great detailing mentor 30 years ago who always said don't BS and communicate the best and worst expectations.
Also learned a lot from yourself, Brian from Apex and Yvan Lacroix.
Eye candy is fun to watch but please tell the truth!
    Love the channel!👍❤👌

What a great reminder, Phil. I'm not a pro detailer - just a 52-year-old dude who just recently discovered that I truly LOVE detailing my vehicles. I've learned a TON on TH-cam, including your channel. But I've found it has been "toxic" for me in a different way. I've found that detailing videos have created in me the desire to chase the "next perfect product." I literally have shelves of products I've bought, when I already had a similar product from a different brand, all in the name of "trying them out" to find the "best." Man, I'm figuring out how deep that rabbit hole is. My wife is threatening to take my computer away from me! 😊 Seriously, I've got to find some balance. Maybe just sticking with one brand would help? If you've got any advice, I'm definitely open to it. Thanks again, Phil! Really appreciate both of your channels!

I had a customer, pet owner, who was happy with removing orange juice stains rather than dog spit stains

Phil, love both of your channels! This is such a great video! I've been working in the industry for about 6 years now, been on a deep dive wanting to start my own detailing practice. Nothing beats seeing the customers vehicle, getting to understand thier expectations, and then managing thier expectations. Of course we as detailers would love nothing more than to clean every car to perfection but each car is a completely new experience. I usually just explain to the customer a very basic overview of the cleaning process and that it's not a guarantee stains or scratches will 100 percent dissappear. This honesty right from the beginning is the key. This also saves you the stress of trying every method/chemical , spending way too much time attempting to achieve "perfection" and possibly just end up causing damage. Now you to call the customer and tell them the stain or scratch didn't come out and I tore your fabric or burned your paint hahaha, not a fun conversation!
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, even though I've been doing this for a while now I never stop learning. Looking forward to starting my own detailing business this year!

I believe when it comes to detailing it’s the experience that you get from each car so we as detailers do not approach every car the same

I struggle with 2 things. 1 trying not to achieve paint perfection when it is not needed. 2 interior pricing. I know how much time I have in a thorough detail and price reflects that. Half my inquiries are looking for the cheapest.🤷‍♂️.

Very well said Phil! Ive been detaling cars since circa 1980 and ive seen things radically change, especially over the past five years or so, but, what you've so eloquently stated here will stand the test of time. I've actually had to step away form most TH-cam detailers save for a select few because of this toxicity. It will most certainly steal your joy. I'm old enough to recognoze this and see it for what it is , but, the younger generation that has only known this online world are the ones I feel for. Kudos to you for trying to reach them and explain the difference between the internet and real life. I just wanted to stop and say thanks, and keep on keeping on. Detailng by Brent

Hi!, Funny that just happened to me this week, I did mom’s, dad’s cars but when I got to his kids vehicle I was disappointed I couldn’t achieve what I had in mind, but the customer was very happy, thanks for this video because I feel better now.

Good message.. as an enthusiast for me to achieve the TH-cam detail results is almost unattainable.. I can get my cars looking super nice but I cannot achieve the perfection those guys get

Great vid Phil! I was caught in the "perfection" trap when I started detailing full time due to watching lots of the "youtube" detailers who seem to make the worst disasters look perfect every time. I did eventually come to realize that the results need to be better, not perfect. I agree with your shoot for 75-80% range. You're entertaining and very informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights!

Not only TH-cam but someone who’s had their vehicle detailed already by someone else it can make you look “too expensive” when the other Detailer charged $30 per car for the whole car.

I’ve watched lot of videos most of them very educational there’s a few about hustlers that like bragging about how much they charge and how much money they make and bla, bla, bla I just started detailing have over a dozen customers I’m building my reputation my customers so far so good are happy with my work most of them were washing their cars at the public car wash and they are trying me out I’ve been investing on better tools and products upgrades on chemicals from retail 12oz’s to online gallon size I’m not over spending nothing out of reach every thing within my budget I’m still detailing my own vehicles family and friends so I can try new techniques and new products to see what works for me and my customers how to make a profit and not over charge them keeping it simple trying to upgrade from express washes to full interior and exterior detailing I’m very thankful to all of the experts for sharing their knowledge and I wish them nothing but the best there’s plenty of fish in the ocean in all levels high prices middle and low I’m trying to provide my customers with the best quality of products and explain why some packages are more expensive the more you do the more you charge!

Wow everything you said is so 100%. I’ve always thought when I watch these videos with high end cars that these guys are detailing, typically are not daily drivers and don’t need to be that “detailed”. Dealing with a soccer moms car is 1000% harder.

I've watched lots of the detail videos and it comes down to being a realist. Being a realist with your customers and knowing your detail limits. Its hard work, long hours.

Hello Phil. First thanks for the video, interesting even for me just an enthusiast. Second do you think some of these perfect detailers are done by more high end/cost detailers. Without naming i can think of one in the US and one in the UK, they charge a lot more because of the time taken to reach perfection. Thirdly if i wanted my car detailed what advice would you give to finding a genuine detailer, maybe a short video would be very useful especially with your experience. I live in the UK and finding a good detailer can be a bit hit and miss.

  • @perfectionimagedetailing234
    @perfectionimagedetailing234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Getting caught up in the hype is no good for new detailers. I was buying all the expensive products that I’ve seen all the other details had and I was not getting anywhere in my business

  • @kevincampbell8298

It’s interesting I was watching one the other day. Somebody unhappy with job by person A took it to person B. Person B couldn’t get a stain out. I said well you don’t know what person A did. Maybe they made it worse and caused the stain to set even more and now it won’t come out. And maybe it was never going to come out even if person A did everything to not make it set more. Sometimes only way to get perfect carpet for example is to replace it with new carpet.
On another online conversation someone said they couldn’t get paint that was spilt off the outside of a car because the neighbour said it is impossible. I said well when it first happened was the best time to get it off. He argued it had to be repainted. I just said sure that’s an option.. I said I can try and see before you spend all that money if you want, he insisted it’s impossible.. because his neighbour said so...

Yup....interesting, so many variables. I only believe what I have experience and research for myself. All other things said by others I will take in, but I will make all decisions on products, methods, and advice for myself when I have experienced it.

I've got alot to learn. Wow. I've got to take my foot off the perfection gas pedal. It's gonna be hard for me. One thing I do know is chasing perfection is frustrating and exhausting. I'm not a professional doing this full time, but I really like doing it. Thanks Phil, keep doing these videos helping us out!!!!
