R. Unni is the real example of a gifted and talented writer. His creative excellence is beyond comparison. Unni strives for the minutest perfection of words. He is outright honest. The mental agony, humiliation and harassment faced by him from his senior bosses in the news media organisation made him to write the real life line stories. I was a silent witness and reader for many of his early short stories. Unni's passion to struggle and strive is commendable. He can be called a lone bird in Malayalam short stories with rainbow feathers. The simplicity in his lines, the sharpness in his words and acumen he creates in his characters make him a distinct writer. Many of his early short stories truly haunted me with prick of consciousness. Unni proved beyond doubt that a humiliated and suppressed human spirit, may one day come out with shinning jewels of achievements. One day Unni may be at the pinnacle of Indian short stores with his unique and lucid writing style. Kaliamma is still haunting me with many identical images in my real life. I wish him all the best and a disturbed mind to create more stories.
Sooo glad that I heard at least one more person saying ' naatil puram is not so nanmakalaal samridham' Just as a city has or even more a village has it's own evil along with any goodness it may have. Kudos Unni R! Ur statement about our mazha-nostalgia is also so true !
The writer who writes short stories only to his own understandings and views. But he is not having that much confidence to write novels as he is more happy with his own story writing only. He shows the reflections of his society where he witnesses the same. Though he desires city life, he shows his writing as influenced by his village.
The writer says that story writing is very much painful as he faces. He is writing two stories once in a year. He has to think and plan his writing in advance. He will have to face so many confusions and doubts to write his stories as he says here.
With due respect to him I would like to clear that he said that he is being transformed to so called city culture and not having typical nostalgic disease at the same time his stories are framing out of village sculpture that he brought up is a quite contradiction.
