I have no doubt in my mind that this game, Shining Force, was one of the most influential things in my life. It was the first game I ever played, and I have it today on three different platforms. In a day and age where people like to throw around processing power and graphics as the thing that 'makes a game,' I can never stray from this game. With some of the best music in a game to date, along with a revolutionary style of gameplay that few could ever hope to match, this game will always be dear to my heart. As I write this the sad theme is playing, and I can feel tears welling in my eyes. May this game never fade from existence. May The Legacy of Great Intention stand for all time.
I had a similar experience with the second game. It was THE game that got me into gaming and is the first game I remember playing. And without the internet, finding things like the mithril weapons and the secret characters were a big deal :D They just dont make games like this anymore. Shining Force needs a comeback in the modern generation
When I was a kid I was too poor to buy a Sega Genesis but I was able to rent one from Gamers (who remembers console rentals? LOL) for my birthday. I was so excited to play Sonic 3! For some unfathomable reason my mom saw Shining Force 2 on the shelf and really liked something she saw so she decided to rent it over my objections that if there was money for another game she should get some other game, probably some generic trash if we're being honest. So fast forward a day or two and my mom says she wants to check out Shining Force, so she just gets started and I'm irritated cause it's cutting into my Sonic. Watching her poking around in town, I'm thinking this is the worst game ever... Then she starts the first battle and is having a hard time with it so I tell her to let me try. Sonic wasn't played again, a bit later the Playstation came out so the price of the Genesis plummeted so I bought a used one from Gamers and talked them into selling me their rental copy. With the effect it's had on my gaming choices going forward that would already be a big influence, years of playing EverQuest for example. But I wonder but I wonder how much my love of fantasy books, movies etc. can be traced back to this point.
Ahh yes, the Good Ol' Days (^_^) I recall perfectly when I got Shining Force as a Christmas present, back then in 1993! My first turn based strategy RPG ever. It included a beautiful booklet manual with that beautiful inspiring artwork of the day. We must never forget the technical limitations and difficulties these artists had to face back then, long before Final Fantasy and Dragon Age. WHAT A GREAT GAME INDEED! A true classic in every way: great story, incredibly touching music, gorgeous graphics for the day, amazing lore, charming characters, so well written... THANKS for sharing this Epic Metal Shining Force Medley, that brought back awesome memories from a beautiful title that meant so much for all of us: the History of RPGs wouldn't have been the same without the Shining Force Dinasty. Indeed: May this game never fade from existence. May The Legacy of Great Intention stand for all time!!
Thank you for contributing to the epic archives, I found this through a random search and now looking forward to everything you grace us with. Very well done, I can't wait to see what you do next.
Your music has been ingrained into my head. I've been playing Shining force since before I can even remember and was one of my first video games. Every time I hear its music I get a little teary eyed and remember my childhood. Thank you so much for having such a big impact on my life with your music. Keep up the hard work!
The Battle in the Circus was one of my favorites. This game was and still is awesome. The music in this game was unforgettable. When I was in school I would take the instruction manuals with me to school just to read the bios on the characters. Late 80's and 90's were the golden days of gaming for me. Such awesomeness.
It will not happen again. Treasure isn't just monetary. The FF3(6) double sided wall poster map, etc. These are now preorder rewards or post release paid content. GONE is the era of enticing players with neatvstuff. Say hello 👋 to the 'you' that is expected to blindly consume trash.
Thanks! Love to hear when people enjoy the videos I put tons of work into. :) I've always loved Shining Force too and it's not just the nostalgia, I still enjoy playing it today because I think it's a great game!
Henry Tuck and Dark Sol from SitD isn't actually Dark Sol, his real name is Mephisto, he's Darksol and Mishaela's son. SitD is set a long time after SF1 even though SitD was made first.
Synbious i play first to shining in the darkness (EU version) and his name was Dark Sol he's immortal and even tou beat him he stays in the darkness and awaits to coming back it's how i understood it when i was child
I absolutely love your rendition of the "circus" battle. The intensity conveys the party's desperation in the face of Mishaela's powerful Marionette. To me, this sequence is the Shining Force's wake-up call to the challenges that lie ahead, and the first time they faced a true fight for their lives. This was fantastically done!
Bad idea. Good notion but no, in our year of 2020 + 3 we would see the game "updated" for "modern sensibilities". Content stripped and characters neutered. Let Shining Force and Shining Force II remain beautiful and untarnished.
@@helloidharbl6753 I saw his comment and thought the same. Sega is a DEI company as mentioned on Raise the Game's partners list. They can't even make any new Yakuza games without putting in malware DRM. They can no longer make decent games. Not that that that's a surprise to Sonic fans.
Where did my comment go? I posted years ago. I cried drunkenly on my way home when the music phased from Mishela's Circus theme into the Battle on the Ship theme. As someone who loves the GBA game a whole lot and who used to play SFII as a young kid, 3 or 4 when I first started, I find this amazing. Also _thanks_ for the (FLAC) download, so hard to get that these days. We'd all love a SFII Medley as good as this, you've set yourself such a high bar.
Thanks!! I still hope that someday I can revisit this medley and also do SFII. Not sure about the comment, I hope it’s here somewhere. I never delete comments except in rare circumstances. Thanks for revisiting the video after all these years!
I’m watching this four years after it was made, and 25 years after the game was created. Brings tears to my eyes... who would have thought a game so simple could still be so powerful. I guess that’s why they called it the Legacy of Great Intent. Probably my favorite game of all time.
Rediscovering this medley from one of my favorite childhood games has given me the will to keep going and forge a better future despite the odds of heart disease stacking against me. It is a medley of victory.
@@helloidharbl6753 I am not without help in my battles. I have the entire Shining Force Army behind me, including you and Connor Engstrom himself who I chatted with recently.
Great arrangement man, I'm glad the guitars didn't dominate this cover. Having other instruments voice the some of the leads keeps it really faithful to the original.
A friend bought the japanese original games on the Mega Drive/Genesis recently, and I felt like listening to music from these awesome games of my childhood. Little did I know I would find someone else with the same last name as I from across the pond who likes these games, who even made a metal cover medley. Awesome video, Mr Engstrom From Mr Engström
Can't believe this is my first time coming across this. Especially being a big fan of Shining Force 1. I love the music in it. This medley is awesome, nice job!
While the Sega Genesis isn't my favorite console, there are still games on the console, no matter how old they get, I can still replay them for hours. 2 in particular are Pirates! Gold and Shining Force 2. Both of them are just epic masterpieces and on the Genesis they work so well. Shining Force 2 has that chessboard RPG style that future games rarely emulate. Games like X-com, Suikoden tactics & Mario & rabbids are just a few examples. But Shining Force did it first, and did it RIGHT.

I legit downloaded this song and have listened to it probably about a thousand times! This is such an amazing remix of each track! I wish you did each of the game's song like this individually so I can program them into the ROM of the game and play it with this bad ass music. Seriously, shining force was my first rpg/strategy game, the first game I fully beat and good involved so heavily with and probably the reason I learned english and fell in love with good music. After that my most influential game was ff7, which was also a huge part of my life, but ff7 gets a lot of love already! Keep making videos man, I so want to hear you remix other tracks!
Is this literally the best thing that’s ever been done in the history of the world? Thank you for such an amazing and glorious tribute to what is one of the finest games ever made.
Thanks, I really appreciate that! I'd still love to go back to this cover someday and make it even better! I've come leaps and bounds in terms of producing music since I made this track :)

Yes Yes a thousand times YES! Very well done and amazing to see this game still getting love.
too awesome. luv this franchise legends don't die they just fade away.
This happens. Stumble onto something excellent.
👊
May you find more excellent things.
Is this literally the best thing that’s ever been done in the history of the world? Thank you for such an amazing and glorious tribute to what is one of the finest games ever made.
i chuckled and laughed in satisfaction at how amazing this was, incredible!! Thanks for making this!
I'm really into the 16 bit covers, and hadn't found yours till today - they're absolutely awesome! What a game, you've done it justice and more :)
Thanks, I really appreciate that! I'd still love to go back to this cover someday and make it even better! I've come leaps and bounds in terms of producing music since I made this track :)
+Genmills Good on you! Been trying my hand at producing for several years, and still waiting for those leaps and bounds :)
+Genmills Please tag me when you do remix your remix :D
This made me nerd out so much! Every piece you play transitions so perfectly, and you capture the feeling of every track. I just love how you transitioned from the sorrow theme, to the worthy rival track so well! First rate job Genmills
Pretty amazing work buddy, loved it!
You did it perfect.
awesome I've been a fan of shining force, and metal music for a long time
The darksol/dark dragon fights, absolutely amazing! Got shivers running up and down my spine. Good job!
Those are my favorites also! I love all the themes a ton, but those have a slight lead :)
This game is my childhood.
You sir, deserve a medal.
Oh my god when the Darksol music kicks in
You just made my favourite music from my favourite game even better! I have no words to describe that amazingness! :3
It's just too bad that this audio can't be hacked into the game. I would play this game all over again if it could sound like this.
Bro this is fcking amazing. My first computer game!!!! Thank you so much. one of my motivations for the military. Goodluck in 2022
Well done! I totally marked out at 4:39. About time someone did justice to the most metal 16-bit song ever. :)
Another person of good taste.
Let's set a proper timestamp link for others to click:

I swear to God/Buddha/Allah/Odin this is what I want to hear as I fight for my and my comrades lives.
Thanks, glad you liked it! It always helps when people can share my stuff. I'm going to be working a lot harder to put out regular content on my youtube channel now. Maybe Shining Force II will be down the road, we'll see... :)
Thanks for sharing this, Shining Force is one of my all time favorite RPGs! You killed this one. Thanks a million!
Amazing!! I'm a big fan of the original Shining Force and its soundtrack was unforgettable, I remember humming the Village theme all day long. This game was such a big challenge for me as a kid!
Thank you for the incredible work on bringing this back in epic form.
Hmmm...Almost 43,000 views on this video. I think it's a hint that you need to do a Shining Force 2 medley...and then a Shining Force 3 medley... ;)
Nice profile pic.
Lmao Synbios
Hell yeah! I finished the video and immediately dug out my Genesis and SF 1 and 2. Great job man. Loved it.
This is about 100 kinds of awesome!
This is the coolest most epic thing ever! Thank you very much!
