I practiced Ashtanga for many years and I fell out of it out of frustration I think. I came to your video out of coincidence and followed you along, more on a beginner variation to me. You reminded me of how meditative this practice is and I loved every minute of it. As the poet says « what you seek is seeking you ». Thank you
I began doing yoga during the first lockdown because my pool was closed and got hooked. As I progressed I searched for more challenging yoga and discovered ashtanga, which to say the least is extremely challenging. I am 69 but have always stayed in pretty good shape, so I don't really feel as old as 69 sounds. Anyway, I discovered your videos about a month ago and love your professionalism and the pleasant mood you exude. My practice has a long way to go, but as I heard someone say, it is a practice not a perfect. Thank you so much!
This is a beautiful message! Thank you for sharing. Within our practice there are no mistakes, simply opportunities to learn, and learning keeps us youthful.
Blessings and gratitude to you everytime I finish this guided practice. May Baba Hanuman grant you lubrication in whatever part of the journey you're at. Thank you brother.
@@AshtangaNurse thank you--I am a yoga teacher too. I have seen a lot over the decades...I love a good Ashtanga class (I teach Ashtanga based classes too), with no ego and such a nice zen approach. So refreshing!
Thank you for this beautiful practice. I stumbled upon it at midnight and it was exactly what I was looking for and needed to bring a long day to a peaceful close
Thank you for this wonderful ashtanga practice...I am just beginning the practice of ashtanga & trying to incorporate a daily yoga practice. You are a great teacher...Namaste
wow, the slower movements remind me of guru with his early students to me this is Yoga graceful gentle intense smooth and made for every level everyone can do Yoga at any age and can start now The greatest Teachers are the ones who want to learn the most and are willing to practice work on their weakness as well strong points x Thank you Namaste
I really appreciate that you show the full practice as if you were a beginner. I tried last night to follow another yogi but they showed beginner series with advanced moves and I got demotivated since I couldn’t do anything. I’m very grateful to have found your channel. I practice along to this video at night and use you morning yoga allow for beginners in the mornings. Then I will report back after 30days
This and the hamstring video are really gems. I have followed it quite a few times now and there's nothing else out there like it. Would really appreciate as to some guidelines on how the legs jump through and back. My legs are feeling heavy and wide for the thin arms to jump through in air and so quickly. I feel like more trials and fundamental practices would help but I'm not getting it feeling and strategy-wise. Thanks for the videos, look forward to any future ones while working on this.
Thanks for watching! And thanks for the suggestion! I’ll work on a video about this. In the meantime, try simply focusing on the jump through. Use momentum as your friend and let me know how it goes!
Thank you for this wonderful and calm practice! That is a great start to get into Ashtanga after a long break of doing more Yin Yoga. Greetings from Kuala Lumpur!
You are welcome! And welcome back to ashtanga. I’m glad you enjoyed it! KL is really beautiful! I was there a few years ago to see the Sri Murugan temple since my name is very similar. It was breathtaking!
I’m a 53 year busy father of 2 who really struggles to build consistency in my practice. Your guided videos are a wonderful motivation for me. Thank you for sharing.
You are inspiring! Getting to the mat even twice a week is more than most and spending that time improving yourself is setting an awesome example for the next generation. Stay strong! 💪
Thanks for the practice!! I really find It perfect, just the right amount of indications to follow you and still keep the calmness and concentration ❤️❤️
Thank you so much ! Was hard from 40 min. cause of lack of hip flexibility so just did some hip rotation stuff and found out some really interesting things :)
Incredible! Exactly what i wanted! Appreciate it!❤ I only wish you also vocalized the asanas in sanskrit, it would have helped to remember them as we practice daily
Whoa, thanks for posting and sharing with the rest of us. I managed to do what I could, however, will definitely have to check out your 4 day Ashtanga videos before I can even do the more challenging poses. Great little workout I must say! Had me breathing 😮💨and sweating 😓 a bit 💪🏽
AWESOME!!! Start small and work your way up. Focusing on the simple things in the beginning, especially the first 6 asana after the sun salutes can really unlock the entire practice.
You are on the right track! Steady is the name of the game. This is a marathon and not a sprint. Is there anything in particular that you would like to see in a video?
Typically if someone is practicing full primary they already know how to modify the practice OR should probably be safe and not practice the full series. Does that make sense?
@@AshtangaNurse Absolutely!!! I'm still concentrating on the half primary but looking to learn some of the modifications (I know a few). My right knee is good for Lotus but my left knee isn't so I have to be really careful
Hey! Thanks for the video. What do you recommend beginners who can’t quite do the poses yet do? Should I just try a different type of yoga altogether until I have a base level of flexibility and strength?
That's a great question! You could try a different type of yoga altogether, but the way to get proficient at speaking Spanish isn't by studying Russian, but it would help in learning conjugations. I uploaded a 4 day series on the foundation poses in this practice with modifications for different levels of flexibility and strength that would probably interest you. th-cam.com/video/PxsgR_x6KQo/w-d-xo.html And please let me know how it goes or if there is another video you would like to see.
@@AshtangaNurse Awesome thank you! I definitely want to build my Ashtanga practice and will give these other videos a try. I am just looking for modifications for the poses that I don't have the full expression of just yet. I have been practicing for about 3 years now. So, I am close to a lot of them but want to practice the modifications to make sure my alignment is correct. Thanks again! I love practicing to your videos : )
Hello from spain. You have a very good practice. When I practice the first serie, at the end my body its so tired..., the next day I have a lot of muscle pain and cannot do anything. What can I do in this case? Skip the diary yoga rutine? Ashtanga in this case turns a nightmare,, thanks for your help.
Hello Sendo! Thank you. I understand that doing that full practice can be challenging and may leave you drained. Maybe you could try practicing 15 minutes each day at the start. After one week of 15 minutes and you feel comfortable, then work up to practicing 20 minutes every day for a week. After 20 minutes every day the third week try 25 minutes. If you practice a little bit each day it is better than practicing it all once a month (or week) Let me know how it goes for you!!!
Jumping into the middle of a pool is one way to figure out how to swim, but not the easiest way to figure it out. After you watch the 7 day intro course let me know if you have any questions!
Do you have any tips or drills for opening the hips for some of the seated postures in the latter half of the sequence? Over the years I’ve had issues with my hips (inc 2 hip operations) and I find this section of the ashtanga practice quite disheartening to practice. Certainly need to work on my non-attachment here 😅
This is amazing, but I'm a beginner and can't get half of these leg poses. Is practise the only thing that will grt me there, or do I need to combine with more flexibility stretching?
That is a great question. Do you want to get there faster and possibly risk ligament tears or do you want to get there slower and maybe develop strength of body and mind? When I started I wanted to get there fast, I'm not judging. It worked for a while and took me few times to learn that I get injured when pushing to get there. I'm not saying that is your case or will happen to you but I'm happier strengthening the antagonist muscles than simply stretching the tight ones to get 'there.' Either way, please remember that the yoga is supposed to serve you and help you enjoy the other activities you do.
I have been practising yoga for about 4 years but am pretty new to Ashtanga after going to to a few classes last year. This is my third or fourth attempt TH-cam video on Ashtanga first half for beginners. Please please consider your pacing for those new to Ashtanga. All the videos are too fast, with little to no tips for modifications. Please remember how it feels to be a beginner and make your videos accessible. I am discouraged from containing because it is so hard to keep up!
Far too difficult for beginners! Ive been practicing yoga for 3 years but no... standing on one foot catching the toe and bend... 🙈Sorry. It resembles the down ward facing hippopotamus!!! 🤣🤣
Thanks for letting me know. TH-cam automatically turned them on and I have to go back and turn each one off. It should be updated to play all the way through without ads now.
I love finding videos like these! Some of the beginner ones take forever to explain the pose so the breath flow doesn’t work, but I don’t quite have everything memorized so I still need a hint lol. Thanks! :^)
