Hey there! Susan Silva here! Love your tacos! They are the best!
This is how I've always made store bought tacos. I'm now trying to make my own tacos and then fry them. 1st batch today just ok. I'll keep working!!
I sure as hell don’t have time to make tortillas from scratch thank you for teaching me how to make the next best thing!
Why didn't you show us while you filled them?? That would have been interesting to see and it's kind of part of the whole process.
Agreed. We filmed this video a long time ago.
I recently had a live cooking event if you go to this video - th-cam.com/video/wBSeldS_HDw/w-d-xo.html around 16.06, you can see me stuffing the tacos with hamburger meat. I'll be shooting another video soon and I'll make sure I get a close up for you. I hope this helps.
Please reach out if you need help.
Happy Cooking,
Molé Mama
How in the world would you even be able to put anything in that shell????? It would crack.
You guys might want to try my moms trick. Put the chicken or meat in tortilla before frying and attach the taco with 2 toothpicks. WORKS PERFECT!😊
I tried your way last night (same tortillas and oil) and it was a hit last night with hubby, picky 4 year old and myself! So easy! And so effective! Thank you...i loved these taco shells.
Molé Mama Ground Turkey, sour cream, shredded Romain w, tomatoes and shredded 4 cheese blend. Daughter had just the turkey and cheese. So delicious that we’re having it again tonight!!😁
I have been eating these since I was a child! The only way I make my tacos at home .
She giggled when she said the tortilla was getting hard. Freaky kitchen lol
Funny, I used flour tortillas and they just bubbled up. Still tasted great, but they were hard to fry. I prefer corn, but my husband prefers flour. So next time, I'll use corn. Thank you for the info.!
what would be the biggest Taco shell possible to make?
Like 10 inches large tortillia wrappers?
Would it be able to keep its structure. and not break appart? even when filling it to the top?
Hi There, You can use flour tortillas. I've used 10 inches before and they work well. The trick is the oil must be cooler and you need to turn them quickly because they are going to get crunchy and golden brown much faster than corn. And can burn easily! Make sure the tortillas are room temperture when you start frying! Some of my family prefers the taste of the flour tortillas tacos. Hope this helps. Please reach out with any other questions. Happy cooking. Molé Mama
Great, I bought the right brand of corn tortillas to make my Mexican pizzas👌🏾
Hola Mole Mama. When you fill the shells, do they open without breaking? Thank you.
Hola Ohm, the shells don't usually break. Sometimes if you get them too well done they will. I'll be making them live via Facebook live on Friday for a special holiday show. Reach out if you want the show details and I'll make sure and over some tips on how not to break them. Hope this helps and thanks so much for watching my video :)
You do it by not making them flat like she does. Use the tongs to hold them open while frying. P.S. mole mama olive oil gives these shells a FANTASTIC flavor.
love how crunchy they sound!
You didn't show us how you open taco shells when put food in .take your videos off I T
¡Hola Buenos dias Mama!
¿Como esta?
¡Gracias Molé Mama yo gusto muy sabroso!
Güero from Texas misplaced in east Tennessee to take care of my elderly parents. In my younger days (my 20s during the 1980s) when I lived in SoCal I would go down to Ensenada and San Felipe whenever I could. Back home in Texas it was a much farther trip to the border from Amarillo so didn't get to go as often as I would have liked. I always loved Mexico and her people which as you know are well represented in California and Texas. I've been here (TN) 5 years now and really have been missing home. I am more of a Barbeque cook but have found my homesickness is showing up in my hunger now as well; I know weird huh?
Right now I'm working on my 3rd batch of shredded beef; but I haven't got the taco shells down, till now. Thank you so very much, I refuse to buy any more stale off the shelf.
I've been visiting here (TN) all my life and it's always been kind of pale 😉 around here. But in the past several years more and more of my brown cousins have made it up here.
I'm not fluent but understand and speak more than a little; I have fun when I'm somewhere and I can overhear some maybe commenting about "the white boy", and I'll look at them all innocent, ¿quien yo? Tickles me every time!
Thank you again for sharing your taco goodness and letting me share some of my story. 👍
Gracias,
Rich Barnhart
I have to use veggie oil. I have a corn allergy and it bothers my intestinal tract. But luckily they still turn out yummy and crunchy.
I fried the corn tortillas pretty much this way tonight. All I had was peanut oil. They were kind of soggy and heavy with oil - not crunchy. The oil was quite hot but the tortillas came straight out of the fridge. Any suggestions?
Alan Lane Hi There,
So a couple of things. It’s best for the tortillas to be room temperature and the oil needs to be really hot. Did you use the wood spoon test? And I’ve never used peanut oil to make them before, so not sure if that contributed to the sogginess. I hope they turn out next time. Be well,
Molé Mama
Thank you! My mother and Grandmother made our tacos that way as well!
@ I make them all the time! I learned watching my Abuelita(grandmother)!
How long do you keep them under the oil?
I like your video, what temp do you use, low medium or high?
Great video !!! When I first saw your TH-cam video I thought to myself "Who is this white lady trying to make tacos !!! Then I heard your beautiful voice and was like "Dang" she's Latina !!! Lol. Your taco shells look amazing !!! Thank you !!!
@@nininguyen4598 So sorry that you didn't catch my sarcasm !!! Of course race is irrelevant when it comes to cooking, and in almost everything !!! Peace and love 💘
Hey Diana, these would be sooo good! I love crunchy shells rather than soft. Good to know about the corn oil💛Thanks again for the hot oil temp and inspiration💚katie
PS I am also happy that you mention your mama. 💞
What temp is it at? Should I set it a low or high temp?
Hi Mike. Don't listen to her. They will taste like fat. High heat smoking oil then they will just need a quick blast.
Does it have to be corn oil?
I am going to try this and thanks for posting this video.
Ohhh I just tried this and it’s delicious! 😋😋😋😋 I had 4 tacos yum yum 😋😋😋😋
I found day-old tortillas work best because they have less moisture and will get crunchy faster. If fresh, let them sit out in a single layer uncovered for a while before frying.
I kinda giggled when she said the Tortilla is getting hard I fist ate 4 🍕 ,this came up
Yeah you got the yummy yummy yummy yummy yummy yummy that what Justin bieber mean taco is yummy for real
can u use flour tortillas
Can you do a video SHOWING how YOU stuffed them?
Hi Dorothy,
I recently had a live cooking event if you go to this video - th-cam.com/video/wBSeldS_HDw/w-d-xo.html around 16.06, you can see me stuffing the tacos with hamburger meat. I'll be shooting another video soon and I'll make sure I get a close up for you. I hope this helps.

@ Thank you! I watched your other video I plan on making ground chicken tacos today! 😊
I'm gonna try this. Thank you 😊
I'm Filipino, I never had tasted taco in my life but i guess it's like plain flavored pringles, I guess?
I think your oil was not hot enough, (oil shell) That looks nothing like the hard taco shells. like other comments how do you stuff that Hard Taco
This looks good! Makes me wanna make tacos now!
🔥
i made tortillas and they turned out chewy!!! what did i do wrong
I started on a medium high heat and put the tortilla in and it started to bubble around it, i waited till the tortilla had bubbles inside it then folded them into the shape they needed and let them fry until they were a darker yellow. Maybe I didn’t have the heat high enough or fry them long enough.
Those tortillas are so smoll & cute omgggggs
Molé Mama those are labeled as small in South Africa, where I’m from, we have some that are a lot bigger, perfect for salad wraps or large burritos. Not so much for tacos, then again Mexican food isn’t that popular in South Africa since we have more Indian people.
Jaunii Wolf So interesting Jaunii. Thanks for sharing. I haven’t been to South Africa yet, I hope to visit some day. You can make these with larger flour tortillas too you just need to keep a close eye on them because they cook super fast and burn easily. One of our followers from Croatia made them with the larger tortillas recently and said her family loved them. Thanks again for sharing! Happy cooking!
what temperature do you fry the tortillas on?
Molé Mama I am late but thank you for replying back with the details
i didnt want to sell my soul! but sure they r tasty
Need to see those stuffed on camera. They were tightly shut after frying and I want to see them not crack as you fill them up with all those ingredients.
Interesting. I wonder if air fry shells would be easy then and maybe healthier.
You have to hold them shells open with the tongs as they fry if you want to have room for fillings! That’s why you skipped the filling process. Otherwise you are a doll!!!
Wooww, I can’t wait to try this ❤️
Every time I make my shells I basically just fry them flat and then once I pull them out of the hot oil THEN I fold them in half. But I like your way of doing it better. I don’t know why it never occurred to me to fry them while folded?? Lol Maybe because I’m an inexperienced white girl? 😂
Thank you I was ruining shells by the bag!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Can i use sunflower oil?
@ no problem! Ill ask you if something goes wrong later becouse ill cook tacos i saturday bat thank you for tips!i live in croatia so we dont have english stuff there
I have to use peanut oil..crowns face:( lol
Didnt see finished 🌮... Looks like you just took a bite of the tortilla. 🤔
I'm from southern California and moved to Albuquerque NM last year. I've struggled to find a restaurant (or hole in the wall even) that makes ground beef, or potato hard tacos. Please help! Most places here offer soft tacos only, or cheap, boxed type hard shell tacos with shredded beef or chicken only! I AM OBSESSED WITH (and miss) REALLY GREAT, SLIGHTLY GREASY, HARD SHELL TACOS WITH BEEF, CHICKEN, OR POTATO. Most places just make "red or green" crappy shell tacos without use of cheese, onion, lettuce, some sauce (or pico di gallo) with potato....nobody does it here...help!
Brandy Morgan Hola Brandy, sorry I spent time in Albuquerque and have never found any! They are super easy to make. If you decide to make them reach out with any questions! And Duran’s pharmacy has outstanding flour tortillas and they serve them with melted butter!!!! So delicious! Happy cooking😋
don’t know why she felt the need to say tortilla like that lmaoo
Mashed potato tacos, the vegetarian option.....
parchment paper does not absorb oil!
We made tacos as a family, check it out!! @tK7o
Babe those are not home made. You bought them off the shelf and dripped them in hot oil 😂🤦🏻
Owla guys
I use coconut oil
Why she gotta make that face🥴 when biting into the taco 🤨
Yumm😍
I'm I'll be right over 👍
Mole mama, I thought you were going to show how to make some really good homemade tacos shells, you know from scratch, but it was just frying tortillas that you bought from the store, 😩
Those are old school 80s ghetto tongs.
What Recipe? There is no recipe here.
Why are torttias bubiling up!
@ welp...when i put torttias away out of the burrning oil the bubbles are disepering so that was good!onf also tacos were amazing! They were really deicius and chrunchy !thank you for tutorial and all of rhe help!💞💕
There is nothing in the taco shell.
Every recipe I found is not home made. You bought the tortillas at the store. They are not healthy either.
shop shells duuuu
I had them at a bar and grill and wasn’t a fan. Sorry.
