    THANK YOU for sharing the shed hunting. We have done it here in Pa for deer. First outing two MASSIVE dead heads and three sheds. Were going to plan a trip west this spring wirh my 15 year old . Hopefully we can find some.

      You’re welcome! Good luck! Shed hunting is very popular out west, so getting off the beaten path is key. You can do a lot of pre scouting on OnX.

    What a state of tyranny when they tell what day you can pick up a shed off the ground.

    • @CatchNDinner
      @CatchNDinner  ปีที่แล้ว

      The rule only applies to public land West of I25. It closes shed hunting from January 1st to April 30th. The reasoning from the CPW website goes as follows: “The purpose of this regulation is to reduce stress on wintering big game animals during the time of year when big game animals such as deer, elk, pronghorn and moose are most vulnerable. Stress can result in decreased body condition, increased mortality and decreased fawn/calf survival. These regulations protect the health of Colorado's big game herds and other wintering wildlife. Winter can be extremely difficult on wildlife as body weight is down and access to food is very limited. The survival of wildlife relies heavily on keeping as many calories as possible until the green shoots pop up, heralding spring's return.” As you can see this is geared for serious shed hunters who will get off the beaten path and push the animals around. Not the hiker who comes up on a shed right off a trail. But, unfortunately, the regulations apply to everyone.

      @@CatchNDinner so then you have to ask: what is the difference between someone walking around the woods who may happen to push elk out and a shed hunter? The elk have evolved over eons avoiding predators in the winter which they no longer encounter. Either way it is a means of controlling humans and not protecting animals. If you give up the ability to shed hunt except during “seasons” the next thing you know you will only be able to enter public lands during “seasons” and after that it will be by permit only. The agenda is to limit access to public lands and eventually have designated areas where human activity is prohibited.

    There’s a lot of good points in here but when you said that big elk don’t like to have one antler I would have to disagree. From what I’ve seen just below you in New Mexico is that the big elk will either drop with in 100 feet of each other which on a side note some of the big ones lose a shed and then fall over and knock the other off, and then the second one is the big and small bulls can go around 4 or more miles before dropping the second and out of all 23 elk sets I’ve found I’ve never found one anywhere from 0.5 to 2 miles from each other. That’s just based of my shed hunting experience in New Mexico

    • @CatchNDinner
      @CatchNDinner  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience. I never meant to imply that elk always drop both antlers at the same time.. There’s a bell curve for everything. One of the antlers might not be ready to fall for a few extra days. My point was that it is common to find the matching antler within a few hundred yards, so it’s worth it to do a little extra grid searching in the area.

      Elk sheds are definitely easier to spot than deer, but experience definitely helps. If you use our tips you will find them. Especially if you use tip #1, which is by far the most important one. Being that we hunt, we really understand elk behavior and that’s really key. Good luck out there! And, our last tip was just as important as our first. 😉

    • @CatchNDinner
      @CatchNDinner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got carried away with the 30 pounds. That would be for a average set. But one large antler from a mature bull can push 20 pounds. What I should have said is that is that a 20 pound antler might feel like 30 when you’re carrying it all day in the mountains. 🤣

    • @CatchNDinner
      @CatchNDinner  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We sell the not so nice ones, and most of them are turned into dog chews. The nice ones can be used to make chandeliers and other decor stuff. The best ones we keep as souvenirs and use them as decorations.

      By the way, the more views and the more comments a video on TH-cam gets, the more the video gets recommended and more people see it. So… your comments are probably backfiring if you are trying to limit the exposure. The best thing for you to do would be to not watch and not comment on videos that upset you. That being said, we truly do appreciate your comments. 😊

    You seem like nice people. But, why would you encourage others to get involved in an already overpopular activity thats becoming more and more competetive. All these new youtube videos are ruining shed hunting. You might aswell tell everyone where the hell you are. Do us longtime shed hunters a favor and stop posting shed hunting videos. If anyone is reading my comment and is a new shed hunter, please dont post videos and try and be somekind of youtube star. Its lame and ruining shed hunting. Thanks for listening.

      We see where you are coming from. Most TH-cam videos are about learning how to do something. Right?? Have you ever used TH-cam for a diy project? Car/house repair for instance. Well there are pros and cons for everything. All the expert knowledge that is shared is helping a lot of people, but what about the people who spent time and money to go to school to acquire it and got a profession out of it. You are ok consuming videos if you are not affected negatively, but when all of a sudden you might have to share the public land with more people it’s a big deal. The population is growing, which means you are going to have to share resources with more people. Might as well roll with it, and stop shaming others for sharing their passion with others. We have gained a lot from TH-cam, so we are just trying to give back. Not trying to become famous.

    • @michaelkusy6666
      @michaelkusy6666 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who are you giving back too? Not the people who have been doing this all there lives. The ones I know that have been cant stand these videos popping up everwhere. Not only fo more people want to go shed hunt, they want to post a stupid video about theyre whole experience and post it on youtube. Thats what the new generation is getting out of these videos. Yes the population is growing , yes there are more people getting out there, but do you think these videos help the situation?? Telling people they can make money? You should be ashamed to call yourselves shed hunters. Stick to all your other " How to " videos and let the people figure this one out for themselves. Thanks
