I just got back from Phoenix today (from an MTB specific vacation). Here is what i rode, after suggestions from locals. Day 1 - Prescott. Day 2 - T100 and T25a. Day 3 - Cave Creek Cactus Classic (C4). Day 4 - McDowell Mountain Park.
The Loam Ranger hands down the C4 loop. It was an epic 25 mile ride. Google Cave Creek Cactus Classic and follow the course listed on the website. You're in for a treat. Prescott was a close 2nd.
I've been watching your videos for a few months now. Honestly you are my favorite up and coming channel. Good personality, professional footage, editing and etc. I haven't noticed a video from you that talks about who you are and what your mission is. Link me if I missed it. I always love the off the bike videos as well.
Thanks a lot Darryl! Well, I tend to talk about me and my goals for the channel on my subscriber milestone videos. Here's my 200 subscriber video where I chat about who I am and why I started the channel: th-cam.com/video/2OeI9H1Afbg/w-d-xo.html
Hey man I live in Phoenix and I really love your videos. I am a mountain biking person myself and I am really glad that you decided to come to Phoenix for your first mountain biking trip out of your country. I hope you enjoy Phoenix and it's trails during your time here. One place that I would highly suggest going to to have a lot of fun is the competitive loops at the McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills. I hope your knee doesn't hurt too much and you stay safe for the rest of your stay in Phoenix. If you find this message please acknowledge me in your next video. Have a good day and keep up with your amazing content.
Benjamin Weskalnies MTB Hey. I live in Flag and rode the McDowell Mountain MBAA marathon loop and about three miles to the end I crashed into a cactus. You really gotta be careful of the cactus on that trail. Do you race and of the AICL stuff in the fall?
Hey you figured out what we here in AZ call snow birds figured out decades ago. Many citys here double in population in the winter when the older retired folk leave places like canada and back east because its to cold and come live here for 6 months.
Well in all honestly you Canadians and especially the North Shore guys have made me jealous for years. So many fabulous places to ride and the ability to make Whistler your baclyard playground during the summer just isn't fare at all.
Hope you are liking Phoenix. Its where I live and I go up to Tonto Nation Forest and I do some trails up there. So much fun. Love your vids. Keep up the great work
Love watching your videos, I have never mountain biked before, but watching your videos is a great way to appreciate something that I don't do myself but looks both challenging and gratifying. And I love the beautiful scenery you fly by. I live in Phoenix Arizona so seeing these videos has gotten me jacked up. Can't wait for the next ones! Sedona is even more beautifully fake than the cacti. The red is amazing.
Thanks man! Phoenix has some great riding, especially on South Mountain. You gotta get out there! There will definitely be some Sedona trails added to the channel sooner than later :D
I made it out to Hawes for the first time last weekend and had a similar experience. Right turn at the bottom of a descent into a sandy wash and a cholla cactus right there to greet me. Thankfully it was front wheel into the cactus, not me. Nice ride man!
My Uncle lives in Flagstaff so whenever I go visit I try to get out at least one day. It's just hard for me to find good places to ride out there with little chunder. About 3 years ago I took a face full of rocky brim and needed stitches in my chin and on my cheek. But just absolutely clear, beautiful views as far as the eye can see. Some of those cacti you're riding past are hundreds of years old too!
I just got in town. Planning on riding the McDowell Race Loops on Friday. If you’re looking for a ride let me know it’s some fun terrain out there. Fast, flows with chunk.
Oh yeah! Not to mention because of the altitude of Arizona, the stars at night are unlike anything I've ever seen! My dad does astrophotography and he managed to capture some AMAZING photographs while we were there!
Awesome video!! Brings back great memories. I road this trail all the time when I moved out to the PX valley in 2004. Road it on my 1998 Cannondale f500 hardtail. Haven’t ridden it in years! This video makes me want to get back out there and dust off some cobwebs! Now I have a full suspension, I have no excuses - other than age and fat🤣
I've never mountain biked before, and in fact I haven't been on a bike in a long time, but you're really making me feel the call of the wild! I wanna go out and see these sights, haha.
Do it! You'll be glad you did. Mountain biking is the perfect way to see places like this in my opinion. Not too fast and not too slow. Plus it's a ton of fun. Make 2018 the year of the mountain bike! :)
Good stuff! The riding here in AZ is a blast. Looking forward to seeing your ride in Sedona (and thoughts on the new Mach 6!). Did you get up to Flagstaff as well?
The Loam Ranger Kentucky is filled with singletrack trail goodness. I live in Owensboro (at the moment) we have a local 8 mile single track (blue) with a 2.5 mile (green) lots of beautiful scenery and filled with climbs and fun drops.
I live in arizona and I've been to that trail multiple times and I washed out in the same place where you did. I was just a little more to the right and I had more speed and completely ate it. I had to pull out 26 cactus thorns.
Welcome to my personal hell. Where your every mistake is meted out with harsh punishment. There's nothing soft to land on in the desert. It's all angry territory. Fortunately, I've never landed in a cactus.
Amazing video. I often wonder why people don"t hit the like button(I liked all of your videos) I have been watching you r videos for a long time now u should get more than 5k likes at least. Mind Blowing . Thx a lot for your videos.
I know this video is couple years old but do you recall the name of rental shop? I’ll be visiting Scottsdale, AZ in couple months, looking to ride best trails in the area.
Enrique Maya haha I'm still alive! I actually released a new video this morning, but TH-cam auto-flagged it for inappropriate content. They've been having huge issues with their crappy software and it's causing grief for everyone. Hopefully the video will be cleared and ready to go later today. Cheers man!
How different was the dessert trail experience vs your usual mountain/forest trails? Or is it something you don't really notice or have to pay attention to? I'm living the lifestyle vicariously through you before maybe buying one myself xD
Rocks & roots in coastal BC are slippery in summer, super-slippery the rest of the year so they can spit you off real quick. I've ridden trails around Phoenix, and the trails have better traction, but don't fall on the cactus.... Oh, and in BC watch for fresh bear cr*p, in AZ a rattlesnake on the trail will make you stop in a hurry.
I got my first cactus encounter and ended up with like 20 or more needles that all went deep. Apparently they had poison also because it basically made my arm weak for awhile. No fun. Not a fan of cactus haha
Alex Higgins Upper left left (reverse), left up saguaro to what looks like saddle (reverse) to secret to mine shaft and then they hung a right to get back on power road. Regular Hawes rider. Know the place like the back of my hand. Too bad he didn't show the switchbacks or the rock jump coming down the mine shaft.
Alex Higgins Correction. Somehow they got back on saguaro to granite and then hung a right to go through Plateau which just takes you back to power road where they parked near the canal. Not recommended. Too many thieves breaking in cars.
+King Rat haha just two mid-thirty year old white dudes with mountain bike TH-cam channels.... t did have the cup, but man, it felt like such a massive change from the Reign head angle. Even though my Reign has been sitting about 65 degrees, so not a huge change.
Dude! How so how was it?! haha I've actually never even ridden "loam" so this loose stuff is all I know. Nice edit! Also, I ride 18 psi front 23 psi rear on 2.3-2.5 tires. 140lbs
+MTB yumyum it was a good week! This was the most mellow ride of the trip, for sure. You gotta make the trip to Canada sometime and hit some proper dirt :) You can ride all year on the west coast, just saying...
YEEEEAHHHHHHHH!
For anyone seeing this... ^^^^This is Eric, the guy I was riding with!^^^^
Awesome
Really cool to see what Arizona is like! Definitely beats winter up here!
Ya man! This was probably the mellowest ride of the trip. Lots of janky, awesome trails coming up.
My heart skipped a beat when you almost washed out! Also nice commercial placement when you do crash.
Ya me too! haha
What time do u almost wash ouy

Let's ride together some time!
Phoenix is awesome! I'm home now, so I'll have to check out McDowell Mountain next time I'm there. Plenty of Arizona videos to come!
iSeabeck I would love to, but I haven't even started high school and I don't think I have the time
The Loam Ranger thank you for doing that and watch out for cacti on the course.
Benjamin Weskalnies MTB Hey. I live in Flag and rode the McDowell Mountain MBAA marathon loop and about three miles to the end I crashed into a cactus. You really gotta be careful of the cactus on that trail. Do you race and of the AICL stuff in the fall?
Great ride ! Looks like Arizona is the place to visit this winter !
+roger buck totally. Perfect weather every single day.
Hey you figured out what we here in AZ call snow birds figured out decades ago. Many citys here double in population in the winter when the older retired folk leave places like canada and back east because its to cold and come live here for 6 months.
You're making this old guy jealous, I really need a nice aggressive 29er and then a place to ride her. Keep riding and sharing mate.
haha so many layers to that comment...
Well in all honestly you Canadians and especially the North Shore guys have made me jealous for years. So many fabulous places to ride and the ability to make Whistler your baclyard playground during the summer just isn't fare at all.
I like watching this video of my home trail system. Nice job on capturing the essence of the Hawes system and the beauty of the Sonoran desert
Hope you are liking Phoenix. Its where I live and I go up to Tonto Nation Forest and I do some trails up there. So much fun. Love your vids. Keep up the great work
Oh man, that thorn, what the hell. How does it stick in there so good?
And then you left it?!
They have hook like barbs on the ends, very painful, and really suck when they get in your feet through your shoes...
Love watching your videos, I have never mountain biked before, but watching your videos is a great way to appreciate something that I don't do myself but looks both challenging and gratifying. Ya you teased it at the end of the video! Maybe I'll try mountain biking on day, I tend to gravitate to running.
Welcome to AZ! Tons of great trails, enjoy the weather!
I'm already back home! But ya it was a great trip with a ton of rad trails. Lots of videos to come!
The Loam Ranger Sweet! Looking forward to seeing where else you got to ride and whether the cacti were more forgiving later.
Bro, that first ad couldn't have been timed better!
First time on that trail and riding at that speed, truly impressive. Especially through all the Teddy Bear Cholla. Excellent video!
Thanks Tom! It was a fun ride.
Great video i felt for ya when you got the spike in your arm
I made it out to Hawes for the first time last weekend and had a similar experience. Right turn at the bottom of a descent into a sandy wash and a cholla cactus right there to greet me. Thankfully it was front wheel into the cactus, not me. Nice ride man!
Been tackling these trails the past few months. I call these mountains the "tread eaters". Good vid.
Definitely!
+Jimmy Licata yikes. Ya when you crash in Arizona, there's not much to dampen your fall.
That's what I heard about those cacti! Very cool.
I'm most amazed on this video is how tall cactus can grow
I know hey? I had no idea either.
Just came across your channel it is awesome!! Fractured my wrist riding this but still a favorite of mine!!! Like your videos editing
I'm on these trails all the time! 20 minutes from my house. Nice ridin!
Awesome! So much fun.
I just got in town. Planning on riding the McDowell Race Loops on Friday. If you’re looking for a ride let me know it’s some fun terrain out there. Fast, flows with chunk.
Wish I could! This all happened last week so I'm back home now :D Enjoy the trails!
I went to Sadona for vacation a summer ago, beautiful place! Enjoy the trails!
+The Life Of Tal it's definitely beautiful. Every night you're almost guaranteed an incredible sunset!
Oh yeah! Not to mention because of the altitude of Arizona, the stars at night are unlike anything I've ever seen! My dad does astrophotography and he managed to capture some AMAZING photographs while we were there!
LOL "chill out plants" like telling the sky "chill dude dont be so blue"
Why won't they just chill out?!? :D
Love the change of scenery bro :)
Me too! Better than snow and ice, that's for sure :D
Great video! Helps pass the days until spring 🤘
+Derek Langerud thanks! I'll keep the videos rolling!
love the fast and loose stuff! gotta lean hard and really throw yourself into curves on that loose stuff.
Me too! I think I leaned *with* the bike too much on that turn instead of laying the bike over and keeping weight overtop of it. Costly mistake! Haha
Welcome to Hawes...rocky and loose. Only 6 miles from my house. It's a fun ride but I only ride it once or twice a month.
Haha yup! Nearly a year ago and my knee still hurts :D
I ride this trail all the time! So cool to see you were on it too!
amazing landscape !! but it must be very hot weather!!
+stefanos kam it was pretty toasty compared to my home town!
Happy you enjoyed my home trail in AZ
Awesome video!! Brings back great memories. I road this trail all the time when I moved out to the PX valley in 2004. Road it on my 1998 Cannondale f500 hardtail.
Haven’t ridden it in years! This video makes me want to get back out there and dust off some cobwebs!
Now I have a full suspension, I have no excuses - other than age and fat🤣
Cool! Cactuses make these trails more extremaly! =))
+Alex Karliychuk very true. But I'll take my nice soft green leafy trees up here in Canada haha
the cacti look fake they are so perfect....awesome riding man, thanks for the video!!
I know, I thought those only existed in cartoons!
the big ones are over 50 years old!!
Great video, please tell me you're going to South Mountain while you're in Phoenix? It's an amazing trail, keep up the good work!
Heck yes. I hit South Mountain a couple of times while I was there...even at night! :D
You didn't do National Trail on Somo @ night did you??? That'd be ballsy!!
Great quality film skills :) keep up the great work.
I've never mountain biked before, and in fact I haven't been on a bike in a long time, but you're really making me feel the call of the wild! I wanna go out and see these sights, haha.

Checking out mountain bikes tomorrow at my local bike shop! Thinking about getting a Trek Marlon for starting off. :)
RawrFoxington nice. Now is a good time to buy a bike too! Should be some decent prices this time of year.
Hell yeah! Welcome to the desert!!
It was quite the introduction haha. Good times!
My kinda trail! Loved watching! Thanks for sharing! 👍 👍
+Peter Willekens good to hear! Thanks for watching.
Nice to see you in the states
+Bleak Bear it was great to be there!
Great videos! I enjoy watching them. 😃
Thanks for the video, yep Phoenix is rocky and loose
Good stuff! The riding here in AZ is a blast. Looking forward to seeing your ride in Sedona (and thoughts on the new Mach 6!). Did you get up to Flagstaff as well?
It definitely is! I didn't get to Flagstaff this time around, but next time, for sure.
I live in the 4 corners area,
Would’ve been sick to meet up in Sedona. About 3 hr drive for me
I'm definitely coming back, so hopefully next time we can meet up for a ride. Cheers!
word! until then, looking forward to the new bike build
I miss this trail so much.
Bet it feels good to get out of Hoth. Keep up the great vids!!
+Eric Westlund totally! It was awesome being out in the sunshine again.
Digging this channel🤘🏼 Keep it up man!
Close call! Good job staying up
Haha it was! But the Phoenix dirt got me in the end.
Saw "Hawes" and thought you came to my local singletrack in Kentucky. I would've been sad.
Haha not this time. How's the riding in Kentucky anyways?
The Loam Ranger Kentucky is filled with singletrack trail goodness. I live in Owensboro (at the moment) we have a local 8 mile single track (blue) with a 2.5 mile (green) lots of beautiful scenery and filled with climbs and fun drops.
That's one hell of a screaming hub!
Isn't it? And I toned it down in the edit!
I live in arizona and I've been to that trail multiple times and I washed out in the same place where you did. I was just a little more to the right and I had more speed and completely ate it. I had to pull out 26 cactus thorns.
+FICTIONAL DOWNFALL yikes! Ya I was happy that I hit the one patch of dirt in the area haha.
The Loam Ranger haha yeah
Love It Ryan!
Thanks!
Looked like the red mountain area in the east valley
Lyle Bear ya if you search "Hawes" on Trailforks you'll see it come up. Fun area!
Did you find some Loam in the desert? Sick vid man!
awesome video! How do you make the colors on your footage so vibrant?
+A B thanks! It's a combo of camera settings and color grading afterwards. One of these days I'll put out a proper video about it!
Welcome to my personal hell. Where your every mistake is meted out with harsh punishment.
There's nothing soft to land on in the desert. It's all angry territory.
Fortunately, I've never landed in a cactus.
+Theball Player totally true! There really is no low consequence crash around there.
your living my dream M8
This video is making me miss my hometown of Phx! North Idaho is chilly and wet right now haha
Bundle up! the dirt is the best in North ID! IMHO
bikee4 yeah the dirt is great here! We havent had much snow either so i have been sneaking in some extra rides. A little muddy but fun!
Amazing video. I often wonder why people don"t hit the like button(I liked all of your videos) I have been watching you r videos for a long time now u should get more than 5k likes at least. Mind Blowing . Thx a lot for your videos.
Raghavendra Shekhawat thanks for that! It's a lot of fun/work making these videos and it's awesome to hear that you appreciate the effort.
cant wait to see sedona from your point of view
Keep up the good work
+Squatch Of The Ark thanks! Working on the next video right now. Well...as soon as I get off of TH-cam...
we play out there.. pretty fun..
Totally fun. That trail around the back side of the hill was a blast!
I run I-9s but I don't think mine are that load!! Wow!
Ya that one was super loud.
cool video but that hub had to drive you crazy!!
Thanks Jacob! Ya it was pretty freakn loud haha
which trail is this and what bike are you rocking
I know this video is couple years old but do you recall the name of rental shop? I’ll be visiting Scottsdale, AZ in couple months, looking to ride best trails in the area.
dude are you ok; last video was a week ago..
Enrique Maya haha I'm still alive! I actually released a new video this morning, but TH-cam auto-flagged it for inappropriate content. They've been having huge issues with their crappy software and it's causing grief for everyone. Hopefully the video will be cleared and ready to go later today. Cheers man!
Jebus, that cactus needle did not want to come out of your arm.
How do you like your bike that you road
Love the channel
welcome to AZ man big fan
How different was the dessert trail experience vs your usual mountain/forest trails? Or is it something you don't really notice or have to pay attention to? I'm living the lifestyle vicariously through you before maybe buying one myself xD

Dang! I got off easy apparently haha
Hi what tril is these.?
If you do come to Australia, hit me up, I will show you around.
Poor gimbal. I always worry about it, when I ride
Have fun in AZ brother!😁
+Renato Zivcic it was a blast! Thanks man.
Hit up flagstaff next??
I've never seen any decent footage of flagstaff which is weird because mount elden has some gnarly trails.
I didn't do Flagstaff this time unfortunately! Next time for sure.
I live an hour away from you 😯 what do you think of COP?
Somehow I've never been to COP! One day I'll make it over there.
you grew so much. i subbed at like 200 looked away for a second and now pure at 30k wtf...!?
Like chill out plants yeeshh...
I live in South Africa so I'm always riding that type of terrain😕😂
+Armin Nel while being chased by animals as big as my house, no doubt ;)
Does anybody know what trail this is?
Alex Higgins it's a few different trails. Check out my Stava for details.
Didn’t notice that thanks!
Hawes, up and around Saguaro (Mine/Saddle), and Ridge back to the car.
You're not related to Brain by any chance?? ;-)
Did that SB have the 15mm cup??
HTA would've been in the 66° ballpark if so...
+King Rat haha just two mid-thirty year old white dudes with mountain bike TH-cam channels....
t did have the cup, but man, it felt like such a massive change from the Reign head angle. Even though my Reign has been sitting about 65 degrees, so not a huge change.
The Loam Ranger maybe BB height difference is what you felt?
Reign is a great bike to 'be in' instead of 'on top' of...
Hey I live in Phoenix
Lucky man!
The Loam Ranger haha you visited in one of the best times of the year, it gets super hot during the summer, stay safe out there!
I had a headache after this video cos all i could here was that freakin' hub!
As soon as I saw that lip coming, I knew 😶, that’s not going to be good. Glad u AND your GIMBLE is ok
5:39 Lucky you did not crash into that.....shit
Hahaha ya I dodged a smelly bullet there...
Did you ride Sedona?
+Mr.Moonboy I did!
Is 1440p, 2.7k?
Should be, yup!
I saw that crash a mile away 😂
Esteban Jaurrieta I wish I could say the same!
do you like merica'?
I do. Merica treated me well!
really well I was just on the first crash part
Haha other than that rock you Americans put there on purpose!
yep totaly not me when I was in southern Utah :)
#TheLoamStranger?
From Loam Ranger to Internet Stranger
+Mike Rotch Loam Ranger Stranger Danger
If you didn’t show us you pulling out the needle I would have freaked out
No loam here brother!
+Paul Heger haha definitely not!
Great ride btw. Cool to see you getting out and about👍
The plants here are blood thirsty.
Yep. Prickly bastards!
Sweeeeet 🤘
