i understand what So Yoon meant by "jealous". As Indonesian, we are so lucky living here with society that is so diverse, even the industry embraces many genres. even though mainstraim pop way more popular, but we have MANY musicians with different colour. While in Korea, their local musicians can not expand their spectrum of musics.. cuz it's still uncertain wether the people accept it or not that kind of music/genre. despite having a homogen people taste, kpop has become big globally though!
You are true. Yes in indonesia for now we have so many musician with various genre such as classic, Jazz, R&B, city pop, disco, EDM, rock, metal even electric. Tapi saat tahun 90 an sampe 2000 an awal. Banyak musisi indonesia yg ga bisa mengekspresikan musik pop dgn bebas. Dulu tuh tiap ada panggung musik,kalo bandnya agak pop bahkan melayu yg rada alay gt pasti kena botol dari penonton. Atau bisa dibelakangin punggung sm penonton. Makanya jaman dulu banyak musisi yg musiknya ga bisa menye menye terkhusus anak band. Mau suara vokalisnya sebagus apapun atau seganteng apapun kalau dulu tuh harus terlihat ngerock. Nah klo skrng penonton udh lebih respect sama semua genre. Makanya ga ada lagi tuh dilemparin botol air kencing lah, dipunggungin penonton lah. Makanya jalan jadi musisi indonesia dulu tuh keras dan lebih sulit. Ga ada tuh lirik bahasa inggris di jadiin lagu. Semuanya harus puitis dan ga alay

While in South Korea, I doubt genres like metal or jazz can be hyped, as much as their kPop. Here in Indonesia we have Indra Lesmana and Seringai who has fanatic fans. Raisa as Pop singer also has fanatic fans. Even Nassar and Inul Daratista also has their own Dangdut fanatic fans and fans who listen to Pop aware of their musics/lyrics and could sing a long! We are so diverse and its beautiful!

To me, Soyoon music is more like 'Alternative' and this genre have no limits, no right and wrong, no bad and good, its alternative and it can reach all community. Isyana has a long journey to be what she's now. She went into music school to be a professional opera singer, she jumped into Indonesia mainstream music industry and released RnB song, Ballad, Pop, and after awhile she decided to do the kind of music she always wanted, which was kinda surprising for us Indonesians cuz it's a totally different vibe compared to her previous songs. But we're happy for her and we admit that her new music is unique, authentical, since she's back to her original root as opera singer, with a spice in it (rock).
30:15 I wanna add something. It might not got told in the video, but actually in Indonesia, rock music was dominating the national music industry during 90s to early 2000. Some notable legendary rock bands like Dewa19, Slank, Radja, Peterpan (Rebranding as Noah), Kotak, Sheila on 7, are part of Indonesia's music industry golden era, that even well-known in our neighborhood countries like Malaysia and Singapore. So Rock itself is not an unfamiliar genre in Indonesia. That's why when Isyana release her rock music, she still got a lot of listeners, and still be one of the most popular singer/musician.
