Ahh, closing out with that great Herzog Zwei music. Easily one of the best Genesis soundtracks. Also considered to be one of the first RTS games ever made, even inspiring Command and Conquer and Dune 2. I would add Insector X, Bio Hazard Battle, and Forgotten Worlds to that list of shmups. There are seriously a ton of good shmups for Genesis. Also worth noting that Thunder Force 4 was called Lightening Force in the US if you're trying to track it down. Star Control is a great mashup of top down space action and turn based strategy. Starflight is a really cool space exploration quasi RPG. Target Earth is a great run and gun epic. Final Zone is a weird isometric view action game where your guns are your health bar. Take a hit, loose a weapon. Run out of weapons, you die. Mystic defender is another good action platformer. And I'll finish off with Shadowrun, just to add another RPG. Seriously, Genesis had some good RPGs, people. It wasn't all SNES stuff.
Such a solid list; I really need to give some of these games a play-through! I can't say I've heard of Crusader of Centy before and it looks super cool!!!
It's a fantastic game. Like he said the animals all have different abilities that can affect you. Your main attack is throwing your sword, and some animals will make it bounce around, freeze enemies, etc. But other animals might make you run faster, etc. Plus it has a banging soundtrack.
Dude! Herzog Zwei! That game was awesome! The first time my brother and I rented it it didn't have an instruction book, so it took us an entire weekend to figure out just what was going on or even what kind of game it was. Once we figured it out though, we were hooked! I mean, come on, a 16-bit game where you had to resupply your troops? You didn't even do that in StarCraft. For me this remains one of the greatest RTS games EVER!
Der Langrisser (Warsong), a delightful strategy RPG game. Hard as nails at times, but in the most fun way possible. It challenges you to learn it and beat it and is not unfair about it.
Great topic right here. I'm really suprised that with all of the TH-cam videos regarding the Sega Mini within the past few weeks, no one brought up the subject of potentially hacking it and adding games 💯💯💯
They definitely should have included Herzog Zwei in the original Mini. Definitely my most played Genesis game of all time (probably only NHL 94 could compete with it). The only problem with Herzog Zwei is that the computer AI is sort of simple; once you figure out the controls of the game, you should basically win every round, and the escalating levels of difficulty are just giving the computer opponent more resources, not more intelligence. On the other hand, if you and another person become really good at Herzog Zwei, then it becomes un-winnable. A friend of mine and I ended up in a 5 hour stalemate one time. Still, a very fun game that I wish had been popular enough to get a sequel with improved computer responses.
I'm glad you included, and brought light to, Rocket Knight Adventures. One of my top 10 Platformers. Last year, I made it my mission to beat that game inside a week. Couldn't do it, but it's still one of my favorite games. I made it to Axel before I gave up, or else I was going to drive myself insane.
Damn dude, being one of the fortunate few to have Sega Channel during almost the entire run, I got massive exposure to the Genesis library and you just freaking nailed it. Mad props (do kids still say that?) for adding General Chaos, that game was a gem.
Very solid additions Drunk, those are all fantastic games lol. While on the subject of shooters, 2 often overlooked and extremely fun games are Vic Tokai's entries Trouble Shooter and its Japan-only sequel BattleMania 2. For our action platformer lovers out there, Chakan is a fun if not incredibly difficult/borderline masochistic title by Extended Play Productions. Or if you fancy something a little less hardcore but still odd and enjoyable, Renovation's title Todd's Adventures in Slime World is an interesting pick, as is EA's incredibly fun and unique ghost simulator game, Haunting Starring Polterguy. Lastly, for our RPG enthusiast, the Genesis while not known for a strong RPG library *does* in fact still have quite the enjoyable selection of titles that are often overlooked, some of these titles include Renovation's Exile and Y's III, Sega's AM2 Rent a Hero, Bluesky Software's Shadowrun, and the futuristic graphic novel styled game published by Sigma, PsyOBlade. ...Shit, I got carried away again...thanks for sticking through till the end everyone =p.
Other than Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I would be happy with only three additions: 1) Rocket Knight Adventures 2) Rocket Knight Adventures 3) ROCKET KNIGHT ADVENTURES btw, in case you didn't notice, I love Rocket Knight Adventures
@Iamasillyboy Yesiam Yes, but we're talking about Genesis games, and tbh I don't like the Genesis version of Sparkster nearly as much as I do RKA. The SNES version, however, is practically as good as RKA, with awesome level design and the fun factor that the first game had, only a bit harder. If I had a SNES mini and I knew how to hack it, I'd definitely include Sparkster.
I only discovered the ability to add games to my Megadrive mini this week. As soon as I heard about Project Lunar I was on it. I'm not adding too many games at once - don't want to be over faced - but made a solid start with the following: - Aladdin - Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament. Although you need to run it through Retro Arch which is already installed on Project Lunar - Psycho Pinball - easily the best Pinball game on the Megadrive but needs to be run via Retro Arch - Robocop Vs Terminator - I enjoy a bit of gore! - Rocket Knight Adventures - can't believe this wasn't included on the mini anyway! - Sensible Soccer International Edition - Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe. Has to be the PAL version with better sound fx and music in game - Sunset Riders - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hyperstone Heist - again needs to be run via Retro Arch; and - Thunderforce IV - why they put the 3rd one on instead is beyond me Not a bad start and I'm already making a list for my next batch of uploads.
Tiny Toons Buster's Hidden Treasure for sure. Heck, Tiny Toons Acme All-Stars is a super fun arcade style multisport game (Fouls? What are those? 🤣) I heard Garfield Caught in the Act is amazing and totally underrated.
unfortunately a lot of the games you mention are european releases that won't work on the Sega Mini's emulator (the version shipped here in North America), even if you own the Roms. Altho, Phantom 2040, D&R Superman, and Garfield do seem to work.
@@Invidente7 Yup - it's actually the only version I've seen the credits of. It's not bug free but only once did I need to revert to a backed up save file to continue due to a memory constraint related issue. It'd be a complete non issue if I was generating the odd save state here and there (I played through on real hardware).
Hey I really appreciate your in-depth research and information on these games I enjoy just going through your videos and watching them it brings back the 90s for me
Kudos for mentioning General Chaos and the Mutant League games! QuackShot, Gauntlet IV (which is not only the best classic Gauntlet game ever, but has one of the best soundtracks of the 4th generation), Ghostbusters, Captain America and the Avengers (a guilty pleasure of mine), the Mortal Kombat series, Cool Spot, Desert/Jungle Strike, Batman (by Sunsoft) and the Adventures of Batman & Robin would be among the few games I'd add.
I have a rom for it, but it doesn't work with the mini's emulator. Oh well. I saved it in my game folder for when I have time to try and run it with some other emulators
Got mine on pre-order. The stock list is enough to keep me busy for awhile but I already have many of these in reserve ready to load. Great video as always Drunk.
Aladdin's probably not on it because Disney would rather milk people's nostalgia and overcharge people for a bundle of it and Lion King on current-gen platforms
Apparently they were right to do so because the compilation briefly made the bestseller's list somehow. Square did the same thing with Collection of Mana proving there are tons of fools out there willing to pay obscene prices for ancient roms.
I'd add QuackShot and Batman Returns. Yep, it seems nobody likes the Genesis' Batman Returns (especially compared to the SNES one) but I really like it. And don't forget Mortal Kombat with the real bloody fatalities.
Great list of suggestions! I'll surely be adding at least 40 - 60 Genesis games to the mini once we're able. So many great games on Genesis, some of which I didn't discover until my 30s.
Dungeons And Dragons won't get on there because of licensing issues. Yes, I know I said that multiple times in this comment section, but I'm pretty sure it HAS to be mentioned.
Thanks for adding General Chaos. That's he most under-rated game on the Genesis, in my opinion. I was always a SNES kid growing up and I only got into Genesis in the recent era. General Chaos is one of the only games that I think are actual feathers in the genesis cap and could actually stand up in an argument about Sega VS. Nintendo.
General Chaos is an incredible game from memory. Rocket Knight Adventures is pure class and Herzog Zwei is god level, the first real time strategy game. My mind was blown.
"I'm disqualifying sequels or games included in other regions." *Proceeds to include Alien Soldier* 😓🤣 ALL your aforementioned titles should be included 100%. I must say that Gauntlet IV should've been here front and center to commemorate M2 and Sega's first collaboration. Better than arcade perfect with an AMAZING in-game soundtrack and an added Quest mode. A certified grand slam! Why isn't here?! My Asian Mega Drive Mini can't seem to arrive fast enough today!
2 Crude Dudes, Hard Drivin, Super Street Fighter II New Challengers, Batman, Batman Returns, The Terminator, Terminator 2 Judgment Day, T2 Arcade Game, NHL 94, Turrican, Universal Soldier, TMNT Tournament Fighters, MMPR, MMPR The Movie. VR Troopers, Taz Mania, Mercs, Robocop VS Terminator, Alien Storm, Madden NFL 96, World Series Baseball 94, James Pond Robocod, Sonic 3D Blast, that's more than 13 good games to add!!!
I used to think Aladdin on the snes was the better game, but in when you look at it, it is just another typical platformer when the genesis version is unique with its maze like level design and hidden areas and item hunt similar to donkey kong country games. the animation is just a bonus.
Man I love general chaos! Such an underrated game. The real fun in that game is the couch co-op because you get to ditch the cursor and just control the soldiers instead of pointing to where you want them to go. It's the same control scheme as if you pick the team with only 2 soldiers in it while you're playing 1 player. One of my favorite Sega games of all time.
Great picks, super eclectic lineup you chose there. I agree 100% with Thunder Force 4. Really odd that they left that one out. It's one of the best retro shmups, period. And I agree with some of the others here in saying that Batman and Robin is a must, although I understand that licencing issues is no doubt the reason it was left out.
TF4 is one of those Genesis game that looks and sounds almost like a Neo-Geo game. Simply incredible what Technosoft achieved with it even though the performance really suffers in spots.
@@Prizrak-hv6qk Actually, there are no performance issues on the PAL version as it was better optimised. The NA version Lightening Force had major slow down issues though.
@@Prizrak-hv6qk Yeah, it is odd. But I did a Maniac run of the game a few years ago and it runs smooth as silk, barely any slowdown at all. I played the PAL version on original hardware. You can find it here if you are curious: th-cam.com/video/eUltIpGreIs/w-d-xo.html
Good list of games you suggested. For all the games they included, there were a bunch I was disappointed didn't make it. I won't give an extensive list, but some games I like that didn't make it are Mega Turrican, Rolling Thunder 2 and 3, and Phelios.
For us long stand Sega fans there is one rpg game that no one mentions but fit the bills of being one of the better games on the console.......Yes I am talking about the original Kings bounty!
For me personally, these are the 13 additional titles I would add. Of course I'd add a whole lot more, but since you went with 13 I figured I'd stick with that number. And a good share of yours I'd add too, like the Mutant League games and TMNT: Hyperstone Heist for instance, but I won't repeat what you have. And please, be respectful. I get you probably wouldn't. But these games meant a lot to me growing up. 13. Zombies Ate My Neighbors 12. Arch Rivals 11. Strike Series (Urban, Jungle, and Desert) 10. Skitchin' 09. Paperboy II 08. RoboCop Vs. Terminator 07. Space Invaders '91 06. Zoom! 05. Super Smash TV 04. Boogerman 03. Chakan: The Forever Man 02. Spider-Man: Return Of The Sinister Six 01. Maximum Carnage
Revenge of Shinobi is included on the JP & Asian Mega Drive Mini as The Super Shinobi. This was an iconic game worldwide. I really don't understand how it didn't make the western cut either.
@@MasterMayhem78Yeah, people like us already have a way or two of playing games like Revenge of Shinobi. I guess we're arguing on behalf of newcomers to the retro scene and casual players, which is kind of funny.
Solid list... Mutant Football League is a must have. Also the original makers of the game have Mutant Football League on everything including the Switch, and it's fantastic. The early beta versions didn't feel right, but they've really nailed the classic arcade game play feel.

And I thought I was the only one that liked general chaos! Its such a good time!
I'm so happy you brought up general chaos. My brother and I played the crap out of that game.
@@EmoKillsBest All this sounds great! Perhaps I'll find a good song or two to sample within the soundtrack for my upcoming project...
General Chaos, Boogerman, and Xmen 2 are the first ones going on for me. Spent many hours playing those when I was a kid.
Great topic right here. I'm really suprised that with all of the TH-cam videos regarding the Sega Mini within the past few weeks, no one brought up the subject of potentially hacking it and adding games 💯💯💯
I’m so glad you mentioned Herzog Zwei! It feels like everyone forgets that one! Thanks for the video!
Me and my friend loved Herzog Zwei
"Growl" is one nobody talks about that i really like. also "Mercs" is awesome, and not talked about much
I love Growl! Just featured it in my How to Mod the Mini video. ;-)
Having Landstalker inside was such a surprise. Thanks to my gf who gifted me this awesome mini console.
Pulseman, NHL '94, Micro Machines: Turbo Tournament '96, NBA Jam: TE, Pirates! Gold, Dune 2, Jungle Strike, The Punisher, Shadowrun, Mickey Mania, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure
Damn dude, being one of the fortunate few to have Sega Channel during almost the entire run, I got massive exposure to the Genesis library and you just freaking nailed it. Mad props (do kids still say that?) for adding General Chaos, that game was a gem.
I would add
Desert Strike
Mega Turrican
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
Whose bad?
@@EvsColeto [woo's in creepy voice]
Sega Genesis was my childhood and still love and play it today! The games it had were Awesome!
Other than Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I would be happy with only three additions:
1) Rocket Knight Adventures
2) Rocket Knight Adventures
3) ROCKET KNIGHT ADVENTURES
btw, in case you didn't notice, I love Rocket Knight Adventures
God yes. The original Rocket Knight Adventures is, possibly, the best 16-bit era games ever made.
I'm not adding too many games at once - don't want to be over faced - but made a solid start with the following:
- Aladdin
- Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament. Although you need to run it through Retro Arch which is already installed on Project Lunar
- Psycho Pinball - easily the best Pinball game on the Megadrive but needs to be run via Retro Arch
- Robocop Vs Terminator - I enjoy a bit of gore!
- Rocket Knight Adventures - can't believe this wasn't included on the mini anyway!
- Sensible Soccer International Edition
- Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe. Has to be the PAL version with better sound fx and music in game
- Sunset Riders
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hyperstone Heist - again needs to be run via Retro Arch; and
- Thunderforce IV - why they put the 3rd one on instead is beyond me
Not a bad start and I'm already making a list for my next batch of uploads.
Phantom 2040
Buster's Hidden treasure
Death and Return of Superman
Garfield: Caught in The act.
Power Rangers movie tie in
Earthworm Jim 2
Tiny Toons Buster's Hidden Treasure for sure. Heck, Tiny Toons Acme All-Stars is a super fun arcade style multisport game (Fouls? What are those? 🤣) I heard Garfield Caught in the Act is amazing and totally underrated.
Tiny Toons Busters Hidden Treasure... I despise that game, one of the worst platformers in my opnion
unfortunately a lot of the games you mention are european releases that won't work on the Sega Mini's emulator (the version shipped here in North America), even if you own the Roms. Altho, Phantom 2040, D&R Superman, and Garfield do seem to work.
Wiz n Liz is one of the first I'll be putting on mine when it's hacked. Can't wait to go through the library and pick all my faves!
Andwn's Cave Story port deserves to be added. I just finished a playthrough; it's absolutely fantastic
...
It can be finished?!
@@Invidente7 Yup - it's actually the only version I've seen the credits of. It's not bug free but only once did I need to revert to a backed up save file to continue due to a memory constraint related issue. It'd be a complete non issue if I was generating the odd save state here and there (I played through on real hardware).
Everyone forgets Battle Mania Daiginjou
I'll keep that one in mind
Seconding battle mania 2 (trouble shooter 2). My personal favorite genesis game
Hey I really appreciate your in-depth research and information on these games I enjoy just going through your videos and watching them it brings back the 90s for me
You always seem to be on point, the only other games I would've added are Sparkster (the sequel to rocket knight on SEGA), Dragon Fury & The Punisher
Shin Kazama Dragon’s Fury! Good call!
General chaos is a great game that not many people talk about.
I suck at this game.
General chaos is so good but no one ever talks about it
Mutant League Football is a very nostalgic one for me, I absolutely love that game
Aladdin's probably not on it because Disney would rather milk people's nostalgia and overcharge people for a bundle of it and Lion King on current-gen platforms
Don't think that's the reason there was some Disney games on it.
My brother got that, He spent 30 dollars on it.... for PS4
Apparently they were right to do so because the compilation briefly made the bestseller's list somehow. Square did the same thing with Collection of Mana proving there are tons of fools out there willing to pay obscene prices for ancient roms.
Do you realize how unbelieveably stupid what you wrote is? The Genesis mini was literally made to milk peoples nostalgia.
I'd add QuackShot and Batman Returns. Yep, it seems nobody likes the Genesis' Batman Returns (especially compared to the SNES one) but I really like it. And don't forget Mortal Kombat with the real bloody fatalities.
Great picks! I would also say Zombies Ate My Neighbors, WWF Royal Rumble, Outrun, and Mortal Kombat (does it really matter which, haha?)
Tyrants ' fight through time ' That was my favorite Genesis game . It amazes me how much Tyrants got overlooked.
My pick for game left out is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie
Hamp Connell I loved that game as a kid...but now not so much.
THIS was the beat em up I grew up with. Superb multiplayer game
Great list of suggestions! I'll surely be adding at least 40 - 60 Genesis games to the mini once we're able. So many great games on Genesis, some of which I didn't discover until my 30s.
speaking of Aladdin, remember The Lion King? what a game son.
Robocop vs Terminator, Dune maybe, Pulseman, Mortal Kombat 2, 3 and Ultimate, The Adventures of Batman & Robin, Ghostbusters maybe, Boogerman
Why have MK 3 and Ultimate as well?
@@ransom6892 they both have unique features - MK3 has animality and MKU brutality
Herzog Zwei, one of the best games of Genesis, period. Two player competitive is the way to go.
Wiz and Liz was a game I was addicted to as a kid. Also Jungle/Desert Strike.
Trouble Shooter (aka Battle mania)
MUSHA
Dungeon and Dragons: WOTES
Mortal Kombat
Flashback
Urban Strike
OMG D&D WOTES is an awesome game, I used to play it with my friend Billy Caldwell. Long ago.
The Strike series (Urban, Desert, Jungle) is so underrated!
Ditto on Dungeon and Dragons: WOTES. That game is under appreciated. A rare gem that is still hidden.
Chiming in with another vote for WOTES. Great game!
Nintendo.
some good Japanese MD/Gen games to add: Cotton, Langrisser 1 and 2, Surging Aura
General Chaos is an incredible game from memory. Rocket Knight Adventures is pure class and Herzog Zwei is god level, the first real time strategy game. My mind was blown.
"I'm disqualifying sequels or games included in other regions." *Proceeds to include Alien Soldier* 😓🤣
ALL your aforementioned titles should be included 100%.
Ristar and Alien Soldier should have been on there but I am glad Mega Man Wily Wars is
I used to think Aladdin on the snes was the better game, but in when you look at it, it is just another typical platformer when the genesis version is unique with its maze like level design and hidden areas and item hunt similar to donkey kong country games. the animation is just a bonus.
agreed I only had SNES as a kid but cannot wait to get the Sega mini today and add these great games
Ranger X was such an awesome game
Hope the rest of your day goes great as well!
As usual your videos defines my late-night-show - today I will enjoy my Sega Genesis (Megadrive here in Brazil)
Soleil/Crusader or Centy is criminally underrated IMO.
As much as I like snesdrunk, segadrunk days are special.
Have you considered a sega Halloween list?
I HIGHLY recommend Hellfire! That game is a criminally underrated shoot em up that I've yet to see ANY TH-camr even MENTION!
Rock N Roll Racing
Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Those games were only on Snes.
@@fidelsolis6070 no, genesis too
I owned Rock N Roll Racing on Mega Drive
I definitely would say Shadowrun. The Genesis version just did the source material such justice and it is a truly fun game.
You can find it here if you are curious:

For me personally, these are the 13 additional titles I would add. Of course I'd add a whole lot more, but since you went with 13 I figured I'd stick with that number. And a good share of yours I'd add too, like the Mutant League games and TMNT: Hyperstone Heist for instance, but I won't repeat what you have. And please, be respectful. I get you probably wouldn't. But these games meant a lot to me growing up.

Revenge of Shinobi and Shadow Dancer is all I need to add.
Revenge of Shinobi is such a glaring omission. The original Streets of Rage should have been there too.
Revenge of Shinobi is included on the JP & Asian Mega Drive Mini as The Super Shinobi. This was an iconic game worldwide. I really don't understand how it didn't make the western cut either.
I much prefer the original Shinobi. Thankfully I have the Arcade port on Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 😁
Why isnt anyone talking about Flashback???
