Ever notice that it does not matter what he says in his vocals....This man could sing a story about shitting his pants and it would be the best thing you heard
@@gnotorious Nah, my name is mud is the character of mud referencing the phrase that spurred him into murdering the guy he talks about murdering. Its actually a really unique way of telling a story, imo, since at first it seems like mud is just some nickname but its based off of a saying that is a way of disrespecting someones name. Like the character is mocking the arguement that lead up to him killing a man.
Les' lyrics often have meaning, but they're rarely true stories/stories from life. Perhaps written from his mind, but in the end Les' singing is about how the words FEEL, rather than what they mean (with a few exceptions like Tommy, Air is Getting Slippery, Jilly, etc). It's why Nature Boy is the DARKEST, MOST TWISTED, HARDEST thing you've ever heard, all while being a song about dancing naked at home and taking care of a housecat.
@basicphenomenon actually Todd Huth wrote a lot of the guitar parts that Lar is playing on their first studio release 'Frizzle Fry' (see the liner notes of that release for details) which most regard as their best work hands down and Jay was their first drummer who had commitments with another band at the time. I hold this album up to Firzzle Fry as my favorites alongside 2011's Green Naugahyde
@basicphenomenon Agreed. Whilst I am a fan of both mentioned bands, I feel that "Ler" adds something which no other guitarist could. And honestly, that is the beauty of Primus. It was always Les, Ler, and Herb - (well that is the best combo) which made that sound work to begin with. Brain is a star in his own right (Saw several live shows/solos with him playing) but always had this yearning for Herb to return...
ImAdapt73 There original name was primate also this is a different band, just with the same members that's why this album isn't apart of primus' discography
Herb changed a lot of the drums for Frizzle Fry (album) to make the songs a lot heavier, I've heard the Suasage Demo from the '80's. Todd wrote the guitar for Knowitall, Frizzle Fry (Song), Harold and maybe To Defy if I remember right. That's why this and Green naugayde are way funkier than the first album. I don't think I would have gotten into primus if Ler hadn't re-written the guitar to Tommy the Cat [First Primus Song I ever heard.. PS This is basicphenomenon I have two users]
@InsaneCarville Was that the Suck on This version or the Sailing the Seas version that you heard first (curious)? - I remember my friend Lauren coming by my apartment in downtown St Pete in 1990 with this album on a cassette solely to turn me on to it - we popped it in an old blaster and I was just blown away - he gave it to me (good ole friend - I heard he is a lawyer now) Primus Suck!
No sausage is the original memebers of primus. (well the first drummer for primus was a machine but the first actual primus drummer) it's Jay Lane, Tod Huth, and Les.
@Ccffect I'm proud of both of us for the same reason. I had a friend blow up a picture of the front cover (worked decently enough) to hang on my apt. wall. I was so awesome.
This bassline has been stuck in my head on some level for the last 25 years.

Fuck. It’s only been 1 year for me and I’m 31. I got a long way to go
yep, 30 for me , and that sneaky hi-hat triplet!

He might have covered that in "My name is Mud" ;p

the crunch part is currently stuck in my head
The 3 of them dressed as vintage milk men circa 1954 is priceless.
God Damn, the original drummer and guitarist from Primus were the shit! Very under-rated.
i totally agree.
that drum beat is unreal. love it .
Ughhhhh..... this song doesn't get old.... why is it so fucking good?? Something about it touches me.... fantastical....!!!!!!

Jay is no joke
Is it 3/4 or 5/4? I'm not good at counting time.
@@jakebrodie2363 That's Todd Huth not Jay Lane

Never gets old....
actually all members of this were at one time members of primus, jay was of course in this and the guitarist was the first guitarist for primus
Best song on the album, in my opinion.
I like Toyz 1988 (at max volume). Watch the videos of people trying to recreate how to play this on bass.
@@jagzrule1 It's just a mess in the best way possible.
Agreed.

Jayski is a GREAT dude to hang out with.... "Go 9ners"!!!!!

I still don't understand why he was not picked to replace Cliff Burton.
Never knew Primus used to be Sausage. Been a Primus fan since i first heard of them back in 91.

Holy shit. That’s weird but it makes sense.
Some funk 🤘🤘
Hi, I'm the one who posted basicphenomenon's comment
This is Todd Huth on guitar and Jay Lane on drums
