You must've missed Lambert's notes. He pretty much says that Henri gave him some water that was coming from a spring in the crater in hopes of helping him. Henri did not know that this water was full of vitae or whatever and that resulted in Lambert getting strong and carrying Henri after getting bombed in the intro of the game, also the bomb caused a head injury which gave Henri amnesia. Lambert grew into the monster and started killing everyone while Henri was in a coma.
@@diegonunez3492didn’t know he was there. That part of the bunker had basically been abandoned. Only until the general guy started talking did it return to that part of the bunker
It's worth mentioning too that the water he drank was more or less the same stuff offered to the dying members of the expedition in Rebirth that ultimately turns them into ghouls. The transformation in the Bunker is just a lot more monstrous.
You seem to have misunderstood the plot, or missed Lambert's own note. When Henri found Lambert, he was still alive, leading Henri to give him some of the water he found nearby-- the water being vitae that would change Lambert from the inside. Lambert's notes and the notes of other soldiers tell us that him and Henri were ambushed by the germans on their way back, but Lambert had recovered from the water and brought Henri back, where he lay in a comatose state for weeks. During that time, Lambert continued acting as a soldier but started to change physically and mentally, turning into the monster that would hunt their friends. Henri did not do any kind of ritual--he just tried to give his dying friend some water and bring him home, and accidentally doomed his whole company.
damn thats horrifying. You try to keep a friend, your only source of sanity in hell, and he turns into a monster slaughtering everyone you know because of it.
He will totally find you in a closet if you are hurt. He looks for trails of blood or just smells you. I didnt trust any closet when he first found me in a closet while I was hurt.
I wasn't even hurt and one time he found me in a closet after I kept doing things in the same room and going to hide in the same closet. Played on hard and it seem he found me through process of elimination.
Henri didn't give himself amnesia, he was just shellshocked and brain damaged after saving Lambert. And he had no idea the crater water he gave his friend contained vitae
I'm not sure how you managed to misunderstand the plot around the monster - Henri gives the mumbo jumbo Rebirth water from the crater to Augustine and so he mutates into Bob over time. He specifically mentions in his journals the water's funky taste, that he has no idea how he managed to carry Henri back, how he feels stronger and more primal with each passing day, even how he gets fixated on the chapel as a place of refuge. There's no time or possibility for Henri to realise what vitae is or find anything like a machine in the Roman tunnels. Bunker's story is really simple, but that's why it's effective.
Couple of things you may not know. (SPOILERS!) You can block holes so rats and Sassus Amogus want come out... for a while. Augustin Lambert became Sassus Amogus because he drank ghoul water from amnesia rebirth at the beginning. You can see the roman statue holding the orb. And if you fall down the pit in the final area, the shadow from ATDD will kill you.
I like that he destroys hiding spots, whenever i was hiding it felt like a run against time, it was a short wait before he broke enough tables/closets and got into breaking my hiding spot, that made it super tense even when I was hiding...

And then I had that Duh Moment where I was like, "Oh yeah... technically, those were all fan games and not _official_ installments in the series from the original game studio(s)."

Just broke up with a partner of five years this week. It was amicable, sometimes things just end, blah blah, but I still feel unsure about it even though my big logic brain knows it's the right move. I'm currently couch surfing and staying with friends around the city while still making my way to work and it's all felt pretty uh a lot. So anyways I say all this on the fun spooky horror game vid because that was the time I needed that minute of help the most. Big ups dude. Thanks.
I really did appreciate the 'Minute of Enrichmesnt'. It came at a very important time as I just dragged myself out of a crisis. Thank you for that reminder. I needed it :)
Two big moments stood out to me in my playthrough that I have to share because they were funny. There's a locked door in the prison that is conveniently near one of those explosive barrels, it just requires a bit of finangling to get it to it. I was moving the barrel to the door and ended up making enough noise to attract Rat Bro to my ass right when I had put the barrel in front of the door, fortunately for me, Ratty broke through the door I was trying to break and in the process blew himself up with the barrel I had put right there XD The second funtimes with Rattigan was in maintenance, specifically by the rat tunnel from hell. I was trying to get rid of the rats by throwing flares and hiding whenever it attracted the beasty only for him to explode one of the barrels I had covering his hole (didn't realize it was an explosive barrel) and cause a chain reaction that set the tunnel on fire killing all the rats blocking my way. I was able to pretty safely explore the new area in maintenance until the scripted spawn in the chapel :D

Henry didn't try to harvest vitae, nor did he try to resurrect his friend. He just gave him water from the place where August fell. This water gives you strength (that's how August went from being half-dead to being able to carry Henry on his shoulder), but also turns you into a ghoul. The terrible thing that Henry blames himself for - is cheating and thus leading his friend to a presumed death

The water was not Vitae. It was most likely that watery stuff that turned all the people in Amnesia Rebirth into Ghuls. They're two completely different substances, although it's strange that the Ghul liquid transformed Lambert so oddly.
As a fan of Penumbra- I was extatic when THE WEAPON TOOL WAS BACK. Hey, thanks for that little minute of introspection near the beginning. I've been pretty dysphoric and unsure about how I feel about myself the last few days, and that little moment really helped a lot. I appreciate it.
Highly recommend. Don’t get cocky, you’ll see how much leeway the game gives you when making noise and running around…don’t mistake this for easy. You just got lucky for a bit. Eventually you’ll run out of luck if you didn’t get it in the first place. The beast will be on your ass the whole game. You can hear him following you through the walls as he hears your footsteps. I got cocky bc he wouldn’t come out to chase me when I made noise so I thought I was ok, then my luck ran out even with the generator on.
Not gonna lie, I genuinely appreciated the moment of breathing and reflection. It's not easy to remember that adversity gives us perspective to truly appreciate life.
Charlatan! Great to see this review. as other people have mentioned in the comments i wonder if you should reupload or make an addendum video or something, because the story is quite different from what you say. SPOILERS! In the tutorial, your character saves Lambert, your friend, from a crater, and you go down into the crater and feed him water from the spring in the crater. This water is the water which ghoulify's you in Amnesia Rebirth. Lambert then saves you, but the mortar shell that incapacitates you in the intro also gives you amnesia. Then lambert suddenly becomes stronger (due to the ghoul water) and carries you back to the bunker. You are bedridden the whole time, as lambert slowly turns into a monster and consumes everyone in the bunker, save you, the soldat at the beginning, and the german prisoner. You didn't "bring lambert back from the dead" you saved him in the crater with the water, and he just turned into a monster. You should go back to reading Lambert's notes, One in the chapel and one in his locker, he states it pretty clearly.
When I played through he would check every hiding space in the vicinity of where a loud noise happened including closets and adjacent rooms, even knocking down a closed door once to find me hiding under a table. I'm surprised you didn't get that. I learned that it's best to get as far away as reasonably possible from wherever a loud noise happened to avoid him.
I played the demo and I'm going to be doing my first playthrough on my deck durring the downtime of my New Orleans vacation. This game is freaking spooky, my lord the atmosphere cuts deep
Now there's 2 Amnesia games that are actually scary and 2 Amnesia games that are just the main character whining about their dead kids. 2-2 is alright with me, especially with Macaulay Skulkin being pretty awesome in this game.
As a history buff, I love this game just based off the fact it’s based on WWI alone. Us old-timery enjoyers are really pressed for any kind of good WWI games 😔.
I picked this up on your recommendation. This does for me what REmake did on the GameCube in 2002. I think this is the best survival horror game ever made. The whole thing was a five hour heart attack. 10/10, would definitely die again
1:40 Had a similar issue with OBS stuttering when doing our Warcraft Adventures vid. That game ran totally fine, but has multiple framerates and runs in more than one resolution - maybe that can help narrow down the issue if you haven't already.
5:16 Not too long ago I did something like this in Mankind Divided. Difference is I used a stolen refrigerator that I threw off the balcony of a third-story apartment because I thought it would be funnier that way. Had the bonus of blocking the doorway so the police couldn't follow me.
Funny algorithm things here. Also, I really enjoy your videos. I don't always get the chance to play the games myself, but some of your recommendations (like Signalis, for example) were amazing to play. I look forward to the next one.
Hey Charl, just wanted you to know that the anti-sponsor segment with the breathing excerise really effected me. I work a stressful job and was listening to this video as I started my drive home. I was stewing in anxiety over a mistake I made a couple weeks back that might come back to bite me, and your words helped me recenter myself. That shit is so much more meaningful than shilling for some sponsor and you are legit for doing it. Thanks for keeping it real.
Regarding the get out of jail free card at 17:25 you mentioned, you can totally use it multiple times (minor spoilers) the big guy takes it back to his lair in the chapel after you throw it and there's even an achievement for going out of your way to steal it back~
I only just got this game cause I base my purchases on people like this guy, but god it is so freaking fun so far. Also, I called The Stalker, Bo Jangles.
I think “escape room employee” was my favorite name for the monster lol Love the channel, your anti-capitalist sentiment, your appreciation of art, and your adorable cat!
Puzzles in System Shock? Oh, right. I always forget about the panels. For some reason, everytime anyone mentiones "a puzzle" around imsim topic, i immediately think "environmental puzzle".

I look forward to the next one.
didnt expect to cry during an amnesia video :(
This game got me so excitedddd
thank you. I needed that.
Us getting to name jimbles was a lot of fun! Hopefully we get to do that as a community again one day
Great now I'm breathing manually -_-
Thank you for the breathing exercise.
finally picked this game up and it does not disappoint. Once I finish it I'll definitely have to go through all of Frictional's other games
Regarding the get out of jail free card at 17:25 you mentioned, you can totally use it multiple times (minor spoilers) the big guy takes it back to his lair in the chapel after you throw it and there's even an achievement for going out of your way to steal it back~
Agreed, this game was excellent at building up dread and suspense
I hit "Subscribe" as soon as I head your sign off. "Content" vs. "Art." Brilliant. Full of HEART, MIND, and did I say it already? HEART!
I love that someone called the monster Dave mustaine and it ended up on the video.
I, for one, enjoy the meditation break. Keep it up!
I only just got this game cause I base my purchases on people like this guy, but god it is so freaking fun so far. Also, I called The Stalker, Bo Jangles.
10:30 The music really reminds me of the Afraid of Monsters menu
1:50-3:12 Thank you, dude. I need to hear that today. :)
Charlatan wasn't talking us through our breathing, he just forgot to stop recording while we was meditating xD
That "Minute of enrichment" got me. Going through a divorce and I'm quite sensible now. Crying watching a video of Amnesia: The Bunker. 🤷🏻
World War 1 is a great setting for horror, though I wish we could see other fronts explored.
I think “escape room employee” was my favorite name for the monster lol
Love the channel, your anti-capitalist sentiment, your appreciation of art, and your adorable cat!
Anti-capitalism is not a virtuous sentiment lol. People who are anti-capitalist are either extremely stupid or do not understand the subject at all.
He spends a lot on games for someone who dislikes capitalism
how is he anti capitalist?
Anti-capitalist? Do you mean anti-corporate?
@@carlito5224 that makes more sense. I do pirate everything so I agree with at least some of it
Puzzles in System Shock? Oh, right. I always forget about the panels. For some reason, everytime anyone mentiones "a puzzle" around imsim topic, i immediately think "environmental puzzle".
