    It's surprising how relevant this video is a year later. And despite Gobert being a defensive player of the year candidate, again, the rockets are beating the jazz again by exploting his weaknesses.

    Can't wait to see how the Warriors defend the Rockets. Western Conference Finals are gonna be so exciting.

    • @semi6544
      @semi6544 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      The only way to consistently defend the Rockets is to have strong individual defenders so you aren't forced to help and rotate as much. You also have to play defense without fouling. It also helps if all your defenders can switch without creating a huge mismatch. Iggy, Draymond, and Klay happen to be good Harden defenders. Harden has lit them up in the past, but they have forced him into terrible games as well. Harden now has CP3 to share the burden so Harden won't disappear in the 4th. The series will be fun to watch if it happens.

    • @babyj5566

      Curry cant guard harden imo. We seen what happened last time he tried to lol

    • @joshuahart153
      @joshuahart153 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Iggy has been a lot better in the playoffs so far though, like he always does. I mean, no one can really guard Harden but no one can really guard Durant either, especially when he's being helped by all the other weapons Golden State has. If Durant is on and the Warriors defense is locked in I don't really see how the Rockets win other than just hitting all their threes. On the other hand, if the Warriors can't stop the Rockets offense and the Rockets can bother Durant just enough, Rockets can beat them. The x-factor is Curry, though. If Curry is hitting his shots and catches fire, he'll start pulling attention away from Durant and Klay and the Rockets will have almost no chance unless the Warriors just go cold.

    • @ouch1226
      @ouch1226 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BOS defense is more scary than Warriors...the only thing you really need to anticipate to Warriors is their transition offense once the shot missed..if you able to slow down the game youll win vs GSW.

    • @ragzy02
      @ragzy02 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ouch1226 Wow, sounds so simple, but it's actually not. You can't miss three's when playing Golden State OR turn it over because that starts their break.

    Also, the lack of offensive skills by Gobert means Jazz cannot take advantage when any of Rockets guards get switched on to Gobert. And with Rubio still out, there won't be enough easy baskets for the Jazz.

      @BmoreAce24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That doesn't mean he's not athletic. He's just too slow for guards like 90% of the bigs in the league. Zaza Pachulia be a great example of not being athletic. U need to know the difference

    • @youngeddo3447
      @youngeddo3447 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bmore Ace I definitely know the difference.. you can be 7 foot and have nimble feet.. look at Porzingis look at KAT.. they don’t have sloppy foot work like Gobert and Zaza.. Gobert looks like Enes Kanter did last playoffs when Harden made him look silly almost every time

    • @BmoreAce24
      @BmoreAce24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Young Eddo bruh Kat didn't have a chance last round and Porzingis wouldn't be able to stay in front either. Like I said 90% of the bigs would have problems. It has to be players like a draymond green, Anthony Davis just to name a few

      My boys, the Mavs, have this happen all the time. Dirk is last down the court on both ends often times, and on D, that means a lot of extra work for Powell... but on Offense it means Dirk's legendary trail-3 or sometimes a mouse in the house midrange post-up.
      I think it was last year that I saw the slowest fast break of all time.
      Dirk and Gobert were still in the backcourt when there was a turnover and a quick pass to the big man slow-mo fast break. It was hilarious!

  • @ShareefusMaximus
    @ShareefusMaximus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @1:56 The Rockets don't play at "such a fast pace." Most people presume they do because Mike D'antoni is on the side lines. They rank 14th in pace, just slightly above league average. There are SO MANY things different about Mike's Houston team, I'm sometimes left scratching my head. WAY less pressure relief, back doors and DHOs. WAY more isolation. Way more switching on defense (which is super interesting, and obviously has Golden State as it's ultimate object). LESS pace, and way more 3s.

    The real problem is the Jazz just let Harden rest on D. He just sat in the corner on whoever was there and Snyder refused to force Harden into pick and roll action and get favorable switches onto him. Houston switches everything, run sets/plays that will force Harden to defend Mitchell and he will become less effective on O because of fatigue.

      No one in their right mind had the Pacers in 6, before the series started pretty much everyone had the Cavs taking them out in a dominant 4 or 5. Instead, they got pushed to 7 with the biggest negative point differential of all time for a winning team and realistically should have lost the series, getting spared by some lucky officiating. That is literally nothing to celebrate.

    Two principles:
    1: when rockets go small, go small as well. Maybe put D.Favors instead of Gobert. To match up their roster.
    2. Gobert and Capella match up, this is a two way sword. Gobert have an absolute advantage on heigh, but also disadvantage on his speed compare with Capella. This is an exam for Jazz coaches

    Gaurds need to defend the perimeter way more aggressively and not get trapped in switches from pick and rolls.
    You would rather them blow by and face Gobert than switch and have them pull Gobert from the paint on a mismatch.
    Honestly would start guarding at half court so they don't even get an opportunity to set a pick.
    Sure the problem is that on blow by's there is the problem of lobs but Gobert has a better chance at defending that than the perimeter and if you are going to give up points rather it be a 2 than a 3.

    Whiteside had the same dilemma against the Sixers. Though unlike Golbert, Whiteside spent most of his time sitting at the bench. The game had evolved so much its making these traditional bigs obsolete. Also, Favors needs to play better. He needs to be aggressive and take advantage of mismatches at the low block and crash the board the harder. Every time his team mates threw a shot he was already running towards the other side of the court.

      Protecting the paint has traditionally been the most important defensive assignment, that may have lessened to a degree lately with all the threes some teams are taking, but ultimately if you have Gobert, it allows you to focus on guarding the three ball aggressively without fear of giving up even easier buckets in the paint.

    • @semi6544
      @semi6544 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Embiid can guard out there and is willing. Covington is also close to that Draymond Kawhi territory for defenders as well.

      Key for Utah is to control pace, and they require better shot selection to have any chance of that.
      Honestly, Gobert is not the issue. What Utah needs is one more volume scorer so they can stay in the game with Houston.
      If Utah can stop Houston from pushing pace and finding holes in the open court, then Gobert and the defense can set up.
      But without decent offensive execution, Utah had little chance of doing that.

    The jazz missed the uptempo, court vision and ball movement that Rubio imposes in its offense... when you have disadvantage you have to defend well every possession and you will finish making lots of mistakes... the problem in this game was not Gobert... the problem is Don Mitchell is not a playmaker and can't move the ball effectively for long periods of time... Then, the offense got stagnant in the first two quarters

      They are a D’Antoni team after all, they just chose to be slow in favour of the isolation plays. They can easily go back to the run-and-gun style

    • @noobsaibot203
      @noobsaibot203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They have two elite iso players in Harden and Paul. They don’t need to run and gun. Their offense is predicated on making sure they dissect your switches. Once they get the switch they’re looking for, they do isos. For instance, in this series you will see a lot of switches where the rockets want favors or Gobert in the perimeter, so they will pass the ball in that vicinity to make sure they can draw them out. It’s not like they’re lock down in the paint with Capela down there, but it’s the Jazz’s best shot at Rockets. Either way, Jazz do not have an answer against the Rockets. They are 0-5 against them this season with an average margin of loss of 17 ppg. That’s pretty much game set and match, unless, God forbid, some horrific injury occurs to Harden or CP3, then Rockets may pull this series out but will lose against GSW. Barring injuries, Rockets have the best chance to win a chip this year. There is really no answer to all the varying methods they beat you.

    i m a jazz fan. i think the real issue is the dfavs + gobert line up. favors is way too slow for any 4th in the rockets and way too slow for capela. i recall that favors allowed harden to shot 4 3point in front of him.
    yes switch should be done and the jazz should rather go small in order to match the rocket.
