Mama Drawk is actually on the money with her assumption about the history of Chinese & korean victims being an influence on Boa’s backstory. Oda was actually forced to apologize because he made a joke about a Japanese WWII era soldier called Shoichi Yokoi, essentially mocking a figure that represented loyalty to the Japanese empire. He’s very much socially aware of that time period even if he can’t say much out loud

On one hand, I deeply appreciate Mama Drawk calling her "Hancock" and not just defaulting to "Boa". On the other hand, I do not appreciate the Sandersonia Slander.
If these theories from Mama Drawk are genuine without spoils, that makes her a genius of literary analysis. The fact she came up with the idea of a son God is just scary so early on.
It's honestly insane and has shocked me. But she showed her work about how she got there, and it makes sense. She looked into Japanese mythology DEEPLY, and connected some dots. The biggest 'spoiler' that got her there was people saying "Usopp is our God" in chat got her thinking about if Gods in One Piece exist.
@@thedrawkshow I remember! Even though the "usopp is God" slipped through, she has done a tremendous job of assessing what oda has put out. Tbh her analysis is the biggest reason I follow. It's such a fresh take on the material
This is just me being nitpicky, but in the original Greek myth of Medusa, she wasn’t assaulted. That version of the story is actually by a Roman poet centuries later.
Spoiler!!!!!!! Don't read Mama Drawk This discussion gave me a new head cannon: Kuma didn't send Luffy to Amazon Lily because that was the only way to save Ace. He couldn't know that Boa would fall in love, but he did believe in Nika. He sent Nika to the former slaves. Which is amazing from a story perspective because it makes a coincidence or a forced plot point make sense. I love Oda.
I cannot wait for Mamadrawk to catch up just so she can watch some of the other One Piece analysis videos. I think a discussion between her and Melonteee would be fascinating, especially about Boa.
on my last reread, I paid a little more attention, and I think it is not arbitrary circumstance that the chapter named "Pirate Empress Boa Hancock" (516) introducing her has every StrawHats (at the time) intial introductory panel meeting Luffy as a colourspread on the chapter cover. I was totally unaware of the comfort women, but always wondered about the architectural design of Amazon Lily - yet no one really dived into that aspect - only the medusa connection, and often superficially so. Thank you for providing some additional background
"I don't wanna bore TH-cam. They know if this is good" 😂😂 hell yea Mama Drawk. Yall had me in episode 1. One of the best One Piece analyses on TH-cam. I'm so excited when a new episode drops, yall make me so happy 😊
Mom Piece is probably my favorite thing on youtube and I mean it. I've been here since episode one, I recommended the series to all of my friends who enjoy One Piece and each time I run a panel about One Piece I mention you guys because there's something to good and wholesome about it that just makes me smile every time I watch it. I know my shoutouts won't do much, because I'm usually a panelist on small conventions in Poland but it's still a kind of good I just want to share with world. And I need to say that I Mama Drawk's observation about Comfort Women symbolism in Boa's character is phenomenal I feel dumb for not realizing it and I wrote my master's thesis about the matter
That's so insanely complimentary! Mama got read this by one of her students who filter safe comments, and called to read it to me. Thank you so so much!
I didn't expect it, but the discussions about this arc was my favorite yet because of the sheer amount of information, that I received from you, is astounding. Thank you for posting and thanks editor for your hard work!
The editor today was actually me! (which is why it's lower effort than what you'll get next week). That being said, if you liked the level of information we added this week, you aren't prepared for Impel Down. Mama has gone on record to say it's the conversation she's most proud of, and thinks she squeezed the most meaning out of.
Drawk touched on it and I think he's totally right. Amazon Lily forced Oda to introduce way more variety in body shapes, because the alternative was having an island of similarly shaped people. Amazon Lily is the high water mark for female body shape variety and going forward I feel there is a steady improvement, especially in the arc with the Mochi and the arc before the current arc.
I could actually see Boa mentoring Luffy, her hiding the doting side of herself and taking his training seriously because she’s obsessed with him and wants him to be able to protect himself
I usually hate that trope, but in Hancock's case it actually makes sense. She has only ever met TWO men(or honestly people) who have ever seen her for anything besides her beauty. Kinda makes sense she'd fall head over heels for the one that's age appropriate and not in a poly marriage with her mom...
If Mama Drawk makes/continues a theory based off of accidental "comments" from chat that references the current manga (i.e the magic circle from 20 chapters ago), it should be a 'Spoiled Mushroom': Brought to you by Black Beard
I gotta say tho, the magic circle first came up from Mama herself, not even Drawk hinted on it. And as someone who watches the livestream regularly, I do have to say, we got flustered a lot when Mama surprised us like that 😅 the thing is she's too observant for her own good, and the chat has a hard time to act every time. It's all fun tho, just hope we don't accidentally spoil the bigger plot points 😂
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Luffy's top 5 is a great idea, I also really like the idea of Luffy and Nami's top 5! Integrating practicality AND sentimentality
The Mama Drawk segments where she speaks to youtube for plug and outro is always amazing, and all that work makes the joke for today soooo much funnier. Amazing content always.
You know... I know it's a different case from Hancock and her sisters and I'm sorry for bringing it up here but... In my country there are girls who are caught while fighting for freedom in the streets and they are r*ped and sexually tortured in prison to make them confess to crimes they haven't done... I was crying the whole time of stream thinking about them... A lot of worse stuff happened and is still happening that I can't even bring up here Again I'm sorry if this was not a good place to bring it up
Yeah, I agree about the whole "characters you like too much to really justify" For me, there's seven I can think of. Capone Bege, Garp, Cavendish, Rebecca, Carrot, Kizaru, and Boa Hancock. I was ride or die for each of these characters from the start (except for Cavendish, that one was a slow burn). If I had to pick one, it would be Hancock, and then Garp for number two if I was given a second spot.
Mama Drawk there is no series on youtube that I think of and wait for more than this. I'm loving and also terrified of the faster release schedule since the new year because it's amazing and I used to wait impatiently every week for a new video, but with the faster releases that also means this will come to an end sooner. I truly hope to continue seeing you on the Drawk Show after that.
Not to spoil and I won't clarify, but by today's standards, it's crazy how all of Mamadrawk's theories are either supported by later information we get from arcs past here, predict future events, or are STILL questions that those of us who are caught up can still be asking. I'd keep thinking ahead like, "Oh yeah, [insert spoiler] said that line one time, and there's this and this information that she doesn't know yet, but it somehow still works." I just love how articulate and analytical these come out to be
Haven't scrolled through the comments far enough to see if somebody mentioned it yet: that white noise at 8:53 is way too loud! Startled me! and only in the left audio channel too... next time please make it mono and tuen it down by maybe 20db! Otherwise love this series with all the theories and insights
If this series existed during the weekly releases of this arc this TH-cam series would be mind blowing, and even now makes me want to go back and re read one piece and try to pick apart every little detail
Fun Fact: the assaulted Medusa story was made up by Ovid because he was massively anti-authoritarian and what higher authority was there than the gods. In the original myths, Medusa was the youngest of three sisters (the other two were Eurayle and Stheno) and the only mortal one.
Also, one reason for the sun symbology in Christianity is because Emperor Constantine, who legitimized the religion, syncretized the Christian god with Sol Invictus, to make things more palatable for the Roman empire.
58:03 i got to say. Momma drawks edible hitting at the same time as mine. Im in tears im in tears. I know i blab a lot over on youtube. But this network of people who watch one peice is amazing. And your persepective on this series is so clear and so amazing. And i cant wait to cry with you at marine ford in two weeks. 😊
First, thank you for this series. I'm still a little disappointed in myself for not watching when I saw the first one pop up, but I wasn't reading the manga at that point. This has been great to watch, interesting and insightful and funny. I don't have anyone IRL to discuss this with, so I tend to rely on reaction videos for that. Anyway… ------------------------ Boa I didn't like at first, but now, yes, I love her. And whether Oda realized it or not, her falling for Luffy does make sense, even though she is significantly older than he is. 1. She never really had a childhood. She didn't have a chance to have childhood crushes or anything normal, she didn't get a chance to mature in an even vaguely healthy way. 2. Luffy couldn't care less how she looks. He doesn't care about the power beyond undoing anything she did to hurt someone else. He's kind to her because he's a kind person. He's not going to think any less of her if she can't do a favor for him. 3. Having someone who does not look at you as something to _do_ or _acquire_ but as a person, you don't always know how to deal with that. Not when it hasn't been your norm. And if you've never had a chance to have anything resembling a healthy relationship, that's gonna feel like love. Even if on paper, it's probably inappropriate.
what a great and very insightful video! i used to hate boa hancock and didn't think that view would change with this video, but now i like her! good job, mama drawk! man, i love these videos, they're always interesting and insightful to some degree, but this one really took the cake for me!
Call Jimbei whatever you want. My mom calls him Jujubee because she has Luffy's memory of names. She also, for reasons mostly beyond our comprehension, calls Buggy Flashy the Squirrel
Hancock is a charekter who grew on me over years. I started OP as a 12 yo, PH just finished when I cought up. For the first times I saw her I found her annoying and uninteressting. Oh wow a girl who fel in love with the mc and now is just gushing over him non stop. Now Im 23, and while I dislike how often her affection for Luffy is played for a joke, I see a charekter who despite a very tragic past (that wooshed me the first time) found stength to keep on going. That alone has my deepest respect. Her being able to wield the beauty that once enslaved her makes it even more awe inspiering. Ps. Im working on my history minor and I didnt realize the connection of chinese architecture and the warcrimes till now. I feel blind n stupid xD
A spoiler for far future: Sun... Freedom... Using Sun to remove the symbol of Celestial Dragons... Unbelievable! I can't believe I never made that connection. Fisher Tiger definitely knew what he was doing and delivered quite a personal FU for the World Nobles. I can't make the timeline in my mind, did he meet the buccaneers and hear the story from them?
20:22 Oda could write it without a problem just like many other Shounen at that time over at "Shounen Jump" but he didn't because he had already established what kind of series one piece was gonna be. It appealed to kids so the editors would've opposed it too. And I think they did.
The implications for CD and women are certainly strong, but when it comes to Boa and her sisters I prefer the headcanon of "just" forces labor, window dressing and blood sports with their DFs, because of their age and I heavily appreciate Oda for keeping that approach open for me.
I'm so glad to hear mama's perspective on Hancock. I always felt like the Boa sisters' characters and backstory were treated with a lot of respect and nuance, but I wasn't aware of all that historical context. I also hated the trope of her falling for Luffy, but I've come around and I like it now. We readers overwhelmingly love Luffy too. Good for her, getting to have a silly crush. Live your best life, Hancock.
I was like, 14 when I read through one piece and NEVER picked up on the SA aspect of Boa’s backstory. Really need to read through the story again now that I’m an adult and can actually read into stuff.
Isn't it a pretty common trope that past trauma doesn't excuse current evil? Letting hanckock be needlessly cruel just because she had a bad childhood is a wild precedent to set... I hope someone reminds her of her leniency towards Boa in that regard, once dress rosa is over, and it's time to judge Doflamingo lol
@@thedrawkshow It sucks the community tends infantilizes Hanchock as a character and take away her responsibility for her actions because of her backstory. She deserves to bee seen as a full character and when people excuse her worst parts it diminishing the complexity of her. She a character on a journey about letting those walls down and learning to trust starting with luffy.
Doffy didn't have it anywhere near as bad, and his response to that childhood has also been significantly worse. We shouldn't ignore everything bad Boa does because of her backstory, but saying she and Doflamingo are on a similar level is kind of absurd.
@@android19willpwn Doffy had it worse tho? Celestial dragons are essentially a cult, and Doffy was clearly heavily indoctrinated into it, only to then get curb stomped by reality. Doffy never got away from abusive & controlling people, just trading delusional dragons for sycophantic mobsters. Don't get me wrong, Doffy deserves death for his actions, but by the time he was old enough to be responsible for his atrocities, he had all of his young life worth of evil momentum built up. Boa had been back on amazon lilly for at least a decade as of her appearance in the story.

I am simultaneously looking forward to Marineford and dreading it
Spoiler!!!!!!! Don't read Mama Drawk
This discussion gave me a new head cannon: Kuma didn't send Luffy to Amazon Lily because that was the only way to save Ace.
Melonteee and Mama Drawk rival in term of who makes the Best analysis and I would love to see a Collab.
on my last reread, I paid a little more attention, and I think it is not arbitrary circumstance that the chapter named "Pirate Empress Boa Hancock" (516) introducing her has every StrawHats (at the time) intial introductory panel meeting Luffy as a colourspread on the chapter cover.
Always tuning in to the weekly episode of Mom piece
Supposedly the next one is tomorrow
Every time I see these uploads, I get more and more excited for her to catch up with us current readers so she can start predicting the future.
This is the part, where Vice Admiral Momonga was forgotten xD
Much love to the Drawk family and the community! 💙
Mama Drawk: I fear no woman. But that...THING(Sandersonia and her bobble head build). It SCARES me.
I will not tolerate this Sandersonia slander
@@obsidiancakes634 Hey. Sandersonia is my fav with Hancock excluded. I just wanted to do that TF2 meme.
The way Mama Drawk speaks about Boas backstory made me tear up; speaking about how her beauty was abused is heartbreaking
Boa is such a great character and it sucks that people only see her as 'boy crazy' but i still wish that she wasn't that obsessed with luffy.
@@hippocalypse9152 that's why it doesn't bother me that much and i still see her as a great character.
@@hippocalypse9152 her mom?

Pretty sure Shaki is her mom... If the succession of Amazon Lily is then she is at least.
After learning Drawk and mama are Canadian so much clicked into place. Not quite East Coast flavoured crazy but definitely feels close enough to home
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Luffy's top 5 is a great idea, I also really like the idea of Luffy and Nami's top 5! Integrating practicality AND sentimentality
"You know this is good. Subscribe!"
The Mama Drawk segments where she speaks to youtube for plug and outro is always amazing, and all that work makes the joke for today soooo much funnier. Amazing content always.
cant wait for the impel down and marineford vods
A lot of worse stuff happened and is still happening that I can't even bring up here
Again I'm sorry if this was not a good place to bring it up
Yeah, I agree about the whole "characters you like too much to really justify" For me, there's seven I can think of.
Capone Bege Is a really good One and he Is really overlooked
You are so right about having that wierd character that you can't really explain. I have Ulti and Delmaro Black.
I am glad you liked boa
Cant believe she found out Crocodile is Luffy's mom already O_O
Mama Drawk there is no series on youtube that I think of and wait for more than this. I'm loving and also terrified of the faster release schedule since the new year because it's amazing and I used to wait impatiently every week for a new video, but with the faster releases that also means this will come to an end sooner. I truly hope to continue seeing you on the Drawk Show after that.
Ay Old Jim is a great name for Jimbei. He's basically your cool uncle.
19:31 she was objectified, and now can turn people into objects
Mind blown 🤯 never saw that thematic connection!
Not to spoil and I won't clarify, but by today's standards, it's crazy how all of Mamadrawk's theories are either supported by later information we get from arcs past here, predict future events, or are STILL questions that those of us who are caught up can still be asking. I'd keep thinking ahead like, "Oh yeah, [insert spoiler] said that line one time, and there's this and this information that she doesn't know yet, but it somehow still works." I just love how articulate and analytical these come out to be
You got me Mama Drawk. I subscribed
This was totally awesome! keep it up momma D Drawk!
Haven't scrolled through the comments far enough to see if somebody mentioned it yet: that white noise at 8:53 is way too loud! Startled me! and only in the left audio channel too... next time please make it mono and tuen it down by maybe 20db!
Otherwise love this series with all the theories and insights
You're right, but for some reason when rewatching in my editing app it wasn't loud at all :(
“I’m erasing women”- Drawk 2024
Off topic, but I must say over the past five months of watching this, I feel like your arts skills have gotten even better!
If this series existed during the weekly releases of this arc this TH-cam series would be mind blowing, and even now makes me want to go back and re read one piece and try to pick apart every little detail
I think everyone would think she's crazy until the things she said happened
Fun Fact: the assaulted Medusa story was made up by Ovid because he was massively anti-authoritarian and what higher authority was there than the gods.
In the original myths, Medusa was the youngest of three sisters (the other two were Eurayle and Stheno) and the only mortal one.
Also, one reason for the sun symbology in Christianity is because Emperor Constantine, who legitimized the religion, syncretized the Christian god with Sol Invictus, to make things more palatable for the Roman empire.
Begging for impel down so i can listen on a long drive I've got this weekend 🙏
Now you got me thinking something about Teach & Kuma possibly being related.
Although not directly
If oda somehow were to make a second female warlord, would the goldstar be taken away?
Naw, because it wouldn't be one of the original seven, since Mama has now seen all seven
In time to listen before bed! ♥
ARE YOU SURE YOUR MOM HASNT WATCHED ONE PIECE BEFOEE 8:48
Positive
GEEZ mama drawk is 6’2”?!?! Holy shit
This sparks so much joy
First, thank you for this series. I'm still a little disappointed in myself for not watching when I saw the first one pop up, but I wasn't reading the manga at that point. This has been great to watch, interesting and insightful and funny. I don't have anyone IRL to discuss this with, so I tend to rely on reaction videos for that.
Anyway…
------------------------
Boa I didn't like at first, but now, yes, I love her.
I been trying to keep up, but it's always great to know I have another video to listen to when I finish an arc.
God i love this series
A spoiler for far future:
Sun...
Love your videos, art, and mama drawks insight. Super interested to see what mama drawk thinks of impel down. Okama way!!
I still hold my headcanon that Hancock and Luffy are both asexual, but Luffy is also aromantic while Boa isn't. (She is probably demi-romantic)
impel down gotta be a top 5 arc so excited for the next vid
These long podcasts are perfect for my night shifts. :)
20:22 Oda could write it without a problem just like many other Shounen at that time over at "Shounen Jump" but he didn't because he had already established what kind of series one piece was gonna be. It appealed to kids so the editors would've opposed it too. And I think they did.
Denying Sentomaru's Gender😢😢
*raises both hands, deep breathe*
Nyooooooonnnn!!!!
I just caught up, this is a great series, thanks so much for the content 👍👏👏
The implications for CD and women are certainly strong,
but when it comes to Boa and her sisters I prefer the headcanon of "just" forces labor, window dressing and blood sports with their DFs, because of their age and I heavily appreciate Oda for keeping that approach open for me.
jesus christ mama drawk is on fire with her predictions, i wont say anything about them but im legitimately impressed lol
57:00 I animate while watching these, it's fun to draw with you and listen to a fantasy world I obsess over.
8:53 that loud noise cut jumpscared me
love stumbling across new one piece fans and discussions and these predictions are real insightful
I was not expecting the Sandersonia slander to come from Mama during that top 5
That’s the only thing I can’t forgive her for, but everything else she said, I like. Good to hear Sandersonia getting more love.
magic circles used by the ...
I'm Just Glad Mamma Drawk Likes bonney
I was like, 14 when I read through one piece and NEVER picked up on the SA aspect of Boa’s backstory. Really need to read through the story again now that I’m an adult and can actually read into stuff.
I love this channel so much. Mama's gummy kicked in for sure
Luffy wants to be the pirate king. He don't care about no god
Marinedord is that shape because it's supposed to be a natural harbor.
Totally, and it's less forgiving, and more just understanding and loving her as a character.
Boa had been back on amazon lilly for at least a decade as of her appearance in the story.
i love listening to people talking about OP and it helps me to work wile listening to something more insigthfull
Another great breakdown from Momma Drawk!
