I remember when this happened. That woman adopted a wild animal without knowing anything about its needs. She had absolutely no idea what she was doing. She learned as she went along - she learned from Encyclopedia Britinnica. She had no business snatching a baby, and the conservator had no business had to business selling the baby. And Travis's attack...Xanax is not meant for chimps. No idea if S got the dosage right. He may have been hallucinating. Maybe Elmo looked 12 feet tall and was attacking and Travis thought he was defending himself. No way to tell. I feel so sorry for S for her losses. It is a terrible thing to lose your family. But she wanted a baby to play with. She should've just opened her home to foster children.
I dont even think foster children would have been a good idea for Sandra. She didn't cope well with loss of any kind. She needed therapy to learn safe coping skills.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the Xanax. Because he never really showed any signs of aggressions until that moment. Plus it I don’t think he was jealous because she had been living with them for a while by that point. I really think it has something to do with the Xanax, but who knows.
That Xanax... Like we really have no idea how it would affect a chimpanzee. Tragedy. Grief is a hell of a thing. Looking back without the grief I don't know why they didn't take Travis for day visits at a sanctuary regularly.
I completely agree. The Xanax definitely could have played a part in the attack. Then on the other hand Travis could have decided today was time to be a real chimp.
@@smarti1144 it wasn’t a sanctuary. It was literally a chimp baby factory. They were just pumping out chimps and selling them. Check out the Just the Gist podcast episode on it.
I wanna know why Sandra didn't have some sort of way to sedate him for emergencies like this. I bet if they made her get the permit like she was supposed to, she would have been required to have some sort of back up plan in case he gets out of hand 👀
THANK YOU THIS!!! at the end of the day say what you want all of if could have been prevented. There is no way NOBODY thought this GROWN CHIMP was EVER going to snap.
That Xanax/Valium she gave him could have had the opposite effect on him, which would explain extra aggression, pacing, maybe even added to his urge attack. I blame Sandra for the tragedy 100%.
I think the only reason he attacked her is because Sandra drugged him. Her saying that he just stared at her blankly just proves that he wasn't himself, and it's sad that he lost his life because of something he couldn't control.
Humans behave that exact same way when on party drugs because they’re at a high so unusual it’s like they’re truly dead inside, in a certain way that indicates they’ve lost their soul. And that it can never be recovered.
If only she'd done what Jerry wanted her to do and give Travis up for HIS own well-being. This is such a sad case. Yes, the chimp attacked and seriously hurt a human being. But he's an animal. And as sorry as I feel for Sandra, this is on her. There is a very GOOD REASON chimps are not pets. But damn, I do feel sad for Sandra. This is just awful. She had good intentions. She lost everything. Literally.
My feelings are all over the damn place…. I feel bad for Sandra, but as I listen again I realize she has major issues with dealing with grief and loss….someone said she needed to learn to cope better, and they’re not wrong at all…. I keep saying a therapist might’ve talked her out of this idea….but as I think about it some more, I’m thinking she probably would’ve found a therapist who would’ve agreed with her or said something that sounded like agreeing…. Therapist: You should consider a hobby? Sandra: I like animals Therapist: There you go! You should work with animals! Sandra: Honey, the doctor agrees with me and thinks I should definitely get the chimp!
I’m from Stamford and I vividly remember Travis riding on the damn city bus when I was in high school. All I could think was “wypipo” 🙄 but it was still very surprising and extremely unfortunate what did happen considering he was so “friendly” but still a wild animal nonetheless. If I also remember correctly she was the first woman to have a face transplant as well? NTwayz love your story per usual Britt.. always have my support bbg!!
A tragic story. I wished Sandra would've listened to her husband when he advised her to get rid of Travis. Charla loss her face.. A grace of God she survived.
This story is so devastating🥺 I feel so bad for Travis he obviously had some really bad separation anxiety (which def peaked when Sandra left him to go with her friend). It’s even sadder cause he didn’t get a chance to properly grieve Jerry’s death. This poor chimp just kept having people he loved taken from him .
I remember when then happened. They really did make it seem like Sandra had no concern for her friend. People should not have wild animals as pets and this story definitely solidified it for me. I’m honestly terrified of chimps because of it. Hearing all these details are so sad though all around. Btw Blue is a champ for looking out for you like that 🥰
This story is so sad. Even tho chimps are very human-like, treating them like actual humans doesn't sound species-appropriate at all.. still feeling very much for everyone involved.
Sandra on the phone with 911 is one of the most terrifying recordings I've ever heard. I put off watching this video for weeks because I didn't want it to hear it again!
I will add it also had to do with Travis’ age as he was sexually matured. Chimps in the wild do it a lot. As chimps get older they tend to get more aggressive. His lack of enriched activities probably added to his aggression.
Especially after he was "grounded" and placed on more restrictions. Dealing with that, the loss of his human "father" and not knowing where Sandra went all of a sudden had to be a lot for him to deal with.
This story has emotionally messed me up more than most stories you told. I think Travis broke, he was broken and when he saw Ms. Sharla he snapped and took his grief out on her. Like King Kong is cool till humans start messing with him. I feel sorry for the animal more than the humans. Taken away from his mama at three days, plunged into this life that his natural animal instincts are questioning at every moment, losing his "sister", losing his "daddy" confined to the house and eventually losing his mind. Animal or no animal... Freedom and free will are so so precious. Yup, I dropped some tears on this one.
I have heard this story before but not with all the background info. I appreciate your research because I was really tryna understand why this woman had a chimp but you explained everything so well.
Oh, Travis. Everytime I hear about this story it leaves me speechless. Who is the villian here? Too many things went wrong and a disaster was just waiting to happen. BTW: I don't even stop to read which story you are covering, I just see you posted and there I go! Keep up the awesome work. Blessings!
Last time someone left for days(Jerry) he didn’t come back. Then She took Sandra away. I think he knew exactly who she was. She took his mommy away for days.. he was probably angry and worried he’d lose her too.
Animals definitely can sense illness in us. One time I wasn’t feeling good, like I don’t know what it was, my whole body was just aching. I just felt like I was dying. My dog was curled up on my lap and every time my husband tried to move her off me for something or I tried to move her off so I could get up, she was like dead weight. A ton of bricks. She did not leave my side until I started feeling better the next day.
Now Jerry knew she couldn't handle him alone that's why he clearly told her give him to a sanctuary when he passed away it's completely different from having a dog/cat but I've seen and heard stories about dogs turning on owners and malling them to death so idk I feel bad for all of them
Me too this was a real sad story from the very beginning! 😭 I seriously felt for everyone starting with Tavis's chimp Mama, it is so weird but I felt the most sad for him! I do deeply sympathize with the lady that got her face messed up. There were just so many red flags that he was not okay, not healthy.
@@meghanhertzog2426 I've heard from other sources that charla was afraid of him, so maybe he senses she didnt fully like him. plus the fact he was drugged by sandra
Sorry for all of the comments but I just wanted to confirm what you said about pets being able to sense when something is wrong with us. They can absolutely sense when we are sick. Some dogs are even trained to warn people when they are about to have a seizure, when their glucose is high or low and actually smell if someone has certain types of skin cancer. Animals are just amazing!!
😝 “She looked like she had a seizure” …….. “Go down like a Disney Princess” ……. This part made my day! I was folding laundry and busted out laughing so much, and so hard that I started crying!! 😂 Your the BEST your so dang funny! I have heard this story before and was telling my husband about it and he wouldn’t believe me especially when I said Travis the chimp knew how to drive a car!! 🚗
in eighth grade, we listened to the 911 call from this story and it was horrific. i did not know there was so much more to this story and now that i know the story and the 911 call, it’s even more terrifying
Yeah, I listened to the 911 call for this case and I was soooo frustrated. I also think monkeys can only give birth to one monkey at a time every 2-3 years. So, I think it’s way different than adopting a puppy from a litter.
Took 27 mins for me to realize this is the tragic story that made the news years ago. I'm so glad you covered this because I never knew the back story. Such a sad story.
“Meanwhile, back at the ranch,”.... I think that Travis knew that Jerome was terminally ill & that’s why he couldn’t look at him. I think he was traumatized by losing a person who had helped to raise him. At a basic level, Travis was a wild animal treated like a human. No matter what he was taught or who raised him, I feel he always was capable of violence. Something set him off that day, like jealousy over Sandra as you mentioned, and he completely lost the control everyone thought he possessed. I didn’t realize until after you described the attack that I’d heard about Charla, the attack, & her subsequent hand & face transplant. What a resilient woman! I’m so glad I found your channel. You are absolutely amazing and such a stand-out in the True Crime community. 💜 😉 ❤️

please do more stories like this! i love these “fatal attraction” exotic pets gone wrong stories. it’s fascinating how people think that they’re gonna tame something so wild
I honestly think it was the Xanax that caused him to act out like that. There are people everywhere that have a negative reaction to Xanax so imagine the affects it has on a animal.
Hey I actually forgot that Part. Why didn't anyone think of this?? Did she give Xanax to him before? All of this could have been an allergic reaction?????
I’ve listened to the 911 call and googled a pic of the friend (Sharla?), it’s crazy how she survived. I’ve never heard the whole story. Thank you researching. I’m hooked on this channel!!
"Jerry had a routine and did chores..." Aw that's cute... "He also drove the car...he was willful and possessive and jealous" Um... She would playfully call him "Son if a bitch" UM

I really believe animals have instincts to sense sickness in humans. Because Travis’s behaviors prior to Jerry’s diagnosis is telling. Then when Sandra came back from her girls trip I really don’t think he was upset about that, I think he sensed the medical issues that were building up within her. And I honestly feel like she shouldn’t have gave him what she gave him in the drink because that is likely what caused the escalation of his behaviors. Idk just my thoughts but I truly enjoyed you bringing this story to light, I never knew there were so many details ! Just a sad situation for everyone involved, BEGINNING with Travis’s birth mom 😞
As an animal lover, this story broke my heart but your story and bloopers at the end had me cracking up. I’m glad you’re ok....your storytelling had me on the floor. Thanks for the relief at the end.
He had become sexually mature. That’s when people can’t handle these animals anymore. They’re cute until they have the NEED to procreate. He needed a mate.
I hate to say it but I'm a little suspish of the woman he attacked. Only because he had never physically attacked anyone in his 14 years. I wonder if she had been secretly mean to him.
Brittany is sooooo much funnier than Bailey. I hope her channel blows up like hers soon. She deserves it. Also, who else agrees she should do storytimes? I miss hearing about the ratchet geese and shit like that
I’m not meaning to be mean but taking that baby monkey from his mother was barbaric and evil in so many ways to me and maybe this was karma 😢 Mama chimpanzee never recovered from that and then they killed her for it 😢 There is no maybes about this one. That’s karma for sure.
Same I don’t even like chimps I am scared of them but even I feel bad for her nobody should lose their child like that especially not cause of a selfish human
But Sharla was the one with the face torn off. She didn't take the baby chimp. She is just a victim. Now that Sandy... Lost her child, her husband but idk if she ever had her right mind. She should have listened to her husband.
@@smarti1144 but that was the ladies best friend and she had to ultimately use a butchers knife to help and call the cops to kill him. Imagine having to take a knife and stab up your beloved pet. I think Travis didn’t want to run the risk of his “mom” leaving again. It’s unfortunate that people don’t understand that animals, no matter how domesticated, are not going to react the way humans will, EVER.
OMG Brittney, every time I say "meanwhile" too I want to follow it with "back at the ranch." I've never heard anyone else say they do that so this is hilarious to me! Also, you tell the stories like no other. I just love how you do it.
No other person I have watched has gone into so much of the back story to Travis. My heart is broken for Travis and Susie. Moral of the story, don’t rip a baby a chimpanzee from his mother you horrible humans.
I've heard this story before but never in your version which was the most preferred as you've already been told from all of us! However, not only your narration was on point BUT that final commentary from the perspective of the animal itself exposing our selfishness as humans got me feeling all kinds of ways about it. You are absolutely right in your assessment of the fact that taking on a primate animal as such from its natural habitat and spending all kinds of coins to try to make them humans is in essence boxing them and caging them away from its kind. And this supposedly act of kindness is in essence a true demonstration of our selfishness as humans in trying to manipulate the animal's environment for our own entertainment and our self-loathing purposes! And YES! Animals we have close relationships with as our personal pets do have an innate 6th sense within themselves to be able to anticipate human emotions. Therefore, they do sense when we feel happy or sad, stressed or relaxed. Afterall, just as we, as humans, were created by God with our individual Spirits, our animals were also created by the same loving God with their own animal Spirits. Hence, we should never mistreat animals, likewise ourselves and each other.
I remember this story, but knew none of these details. Thank you so much for this story. Then the fainting story was just the icing on the cake. Then the bloopers!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I think this is my favorite video so far!!
Ontop of him losing Jerry and not being able to process it she drugged him and I know people who have taken zanax and lost it and did things they would never have done and not remember it. She should NEVER have drugged him.
I fully believe that the xanax was the whole reason for the attack. As a person who was formerly addicted to it, I lashed out many times, feeling completely out of control with no sense of a way to process the anger outside of verbal and/or physical aggression. It's the reason I got help. Do not give animals your medications period!!

Her husband warned her! This story is so sad... she probably didn’t want to let him go after losing her husband and daughter.
They basically kidnapped Susie's baby wtf. Why didn't she just adopt a dog or a child
Right?! Maybe it’s cause she had money to spend but still theres a lot more she can do with that
Right!! That actually hurt me more than any part of this story 😢
😹🥺🗣️whpio😹😹😹😹
That’s why I have 0 sympathy
@@jaylaamor8905 u should cus it’s her innocent neighbor not her
I wanna know why Sandra didn't have some sort of way to sedate him for emergencies like this. I bet if they made her get the permit like she was supposed to, she would have been required to have some sort of back up plan in case he gets out of hand 👀
THANK YOU THIS!!! at the end of the day say what you want all of if could have been prevented. There is no way NOBODY thought this GROWN CHIMP was EVER going to snap.
seriously. he had NO access to anything other than that house for YEARS.
That Xanax/Valium she gave him could have had the opposite effect on him, which would explain extra aggression, pacing, maybe even added to his urge attack.
I blame Sandra for the tragedy 100%.
As SOON as he came charging at me, the mission would have been aborted.
Facts‼️
Dead. Ass.
Fr would've sat myself in my car so fast
Right!
😂😂😂
The pain Susie must have felt after she woke up and her baby was gone. My heart hurts for her.
I think the only reason he attacked her is because Sandra drugged him. Her saying that he just stared at her blankly just proves that he wasn't himself, and it's sad that he lost his life because of something he couldn't control.
She spiked her drink. It’s like Party Drugs.
With Xanax at that!!!!
Humans behave that exact same way when on party drugs because they’re at a high so unusual it’s like they’re truly dead inside, in a certain way that indicates they’ve lost their soul. And that it can never be recovered.
Plus he did not even understand that he was drugged!
Same. Feeling drugged and groggy and loosing Jerry, watching Sandra grieving... So sad
I'm dying over here. You gave that chimp an astrological sign. And those emojis at the beginning... dead.
When I happened to look up from typing and caught that damn bride emoji….then I rewatched and caught *_ALL_* the emojis
💀💀💀💀
Sandra: I like animals
Therapist: There you go!
💯🎯
no she drugged him that's why he attacked
Imma have to use that... “enriched activities”
@@tchew2545 😂😂
Especially after he was "grounded" and placed on more restrictions. Dealing with that, the loss of his human "father" and not knowing where Sandra went all of a sudden had to be a lot for him to deal with.
Bro the “Seizure” story put me a better spirits cause that was a sad story !!
Her Momma's so sweet! Truly uplifting!
But not for the woman who got her face torn off?
I have heard this story before but not with all the background info. I appreciate your research because I was really tryna understand why this woman had a chimp but you explained everything so well.
Oh, Travis. Everytime I hear about this story it leaves me speechless. Who is the villian here? Too many things went wrong and a disaster was just waiting to happen. BTW: I don't even stop to read which story you are covering, I just see you posted and there I go! Keep up the awesome work. Blessings!
Thanks Jinnie 💕
I agree, So much happened 🥴
The woman who took Travis away from his mom. She’s unintentionally the villain
@@sincerelyablackgirl Unfortunate and sad but true.
The woman who took travis and the people who decided to sell him are all the villains
My heart breaks for Susie having her baby stolen. That’s so messed up to tranquilize her and steal her baby. Such a sad story.
“What you need for dehydration is.. hydration.” 😂.
I needed that laugh. This story is so sad every time I hear it.
Yass. 😂🤣 I tapped rewind a couple of times on that part. If anyone was falling asleep, they are definitely awake now.
Last time someone left for days(Jerry) he didn’t come back. Then She took Sandra away. I think he knew exactly who she was. She took his mommy away for days.. he was probably angry and worried he’d lose her too.
Plus he was spaced out on Xanax, which messes with one's self control.
As I listen again, I think you’re onto something
Animals definitely can sense illness in us. One time I wasn’t feeling good, like I don’t know what it was, my whole body was just aching. I just felt like I was dying. My dog was curled up on my lap and every time my husband tried to move her off me for something or I tried to move her off so I could get up, she was like dead weight. A ton of bricks. She did not leave my side until I started feeling better the next day.
I CANT BELIEVE HOW SMART TRAVIS WAS! INCREDIBLE
Now Jerry knew she couldn't handle him alone that's why he clearly told her give him to a sanctuary when he passed away it's completely different from having a dog/cat but I've seen and heard stories about dogs turning on owners and malling them to death so idk I feel bad for all of them
ABSOLUTELY.
I just have to be a little suspish of the woman he attacked. He had never done that before. Was she mean in secret to him???
@@meghanhertzog2426 I've heard from other sources that charla was afraid of him, so maybe he senses she didnt fully like him. plus the fact he was drugged by sandra
*mauling is common as hell with these wild animals...when we people learn?🤦🏾
I came to this channel because Bailey hadn’t posted and I needed my true crime/makeup fix..... and I haven’t left. OBSESSED with you!!!!
"she look like she had a seizurrrrre" LMAO then the demi clip right after, took me out 😂
Sorry for all of the comments but I just wanted to confirm what you said about pets being able to sense when something is wrong with us. They can absolutely sense when we are sick. Some dogs are even trained to warn people when they are about to have a seizure, when their glucose is high or low and actually smell if someone has certain types of skin cancer. Animals are just amazing!!
Realizing that Travis felt that Jerry was dying before he realized himself 😭😭😭
That just tore me up, him thinking everything was ok and then literally weeks later he’s gone. And little Travis knowing it was coming 🥺
i know some dogs can sense cancer i wonder if that extends to any other animals
😝 “She looked like she had a seizure” …….. “Go down like a Disney Princess” ……. This part made my day! I was folding laundry and busted out laughing so much, and so hard that I started crying!! 😂 Your the BEST your so dang funny! in eighth grade, we listened to the 911 call from this story and it was horrific. i did not know there was so much more to this story and now that i know the story and the 911 call, it’s even more terrifying
I’m early enough this catch the premier AND ya girl Bailey announced a Dark History Podcast?!

Yup, all the good news today.
Oooooh love history!!

The Demi Lovato Clip!! COME THROUGH QUEEN!
Thank you so much 💕
His loss of self control might very well have had a lot to do with Sandra giving him a Xanax. Pure ignorance…
Brittney, I think this is the strangest story you have done. All I can say is WOW, and I hope the dispatcher lost her job just for being stupid.
You can find the conversation between Sandra and the dispatcher on youtube
I agree, I don’t come for the makeup so I popped in my AirPod and walked away.... I had to come back to the phone and look in her eyes like “WTH This is wild” I’m here for it!!
please do more stories like this! i love these “fatal attraction” exotic pets gone wrong stories. it’s fascinating how people think that they’re gonna tame something so wild
me imagining travis bucking at people was all that i needed today, thank you Brittney for this gift😆🤣🤣👌
Yea that part was hilarious. Smacking the cops on the butt. 😂
Everything about this story is devastating. Thank you for your deep dive and excellent reporting. So tragic...and avoidable.
I honestly think it was the Xanax that caused him to act out like that. There are people everywhere that have a negative reaction to Xanax so imagine the affects it has on a animal.
I agree. No one else is talking about that. I think it was a huge part of it
Hey I actually forgot that Part. Why didn't anyone think of this?? Did she give Xanax to him before? All of this could have been an allergic reaction?????
I always giggle at the bloopers at the end of the videos but GIRL this one had crying 😂
Brittney: can’t find younger photos for the video’s subject.
Also Brittney: We’re going to play emoji Pictionary today, ya’ll.

"Jerry had a routine and did chores..."

"He also drove the car...he was willful and possessive and jealous"

Still they did not regard him as a person, but as property.

My labs Mom was an epilepsy dog, she could sense seizures and warn her owner and then lay down and protect her head. When I'm sick and have migraines my dog wraps himself around my head just like his Momma did. Dogs are so damn smart.

What I love the most about Brittney is I could have heard a story before- like this one but the way she tells them differently and there's always details added in that I never heard the first go around. Not to knock other faves but Brittney always adds a little extra to help the story more and we love you for that ❤
Thank you 💕
She is a truly gifted story teller! Like, her ancestress way back probably had the whole village breathless around the campfire…
Yes girl. Blue knew. My fur baby knows when I'm sick every time. They know thing's.
Travis knew Jerry had cancer
Poor Susie
As an animal lover, this story broke my heart but your story and bloopers at the end had me cracking up. I’m glad you’re ok....your storytelling had me on the floor. Thanks for the relief at the end.

He had become sexually mature. That’s when people can’t handle these animals anymore. They’re cute until they have the NEED to procreate. He needed a mate.
That's what I was thinking. He was way past mating stage
WoW 🥺 I didn't know. 💔😭
I’ve seen this story before and I think she had been warned that his aggression was sexual frustration but she ignored it.
Considering he was 14 at the time of his death, he may have been neutered. He was well into his middle ages when this happened.
I hate to say it but I'm a little suspish of the woman he attacked. Only because he had never physically attacked anyone in his 14 years. I wonder if she had been secretly mean to him.
As a CT resident, I remember this story. It’s still talked about. Wild animals should not be kept as pets!

🎯
Just smoked, made ramen, got a bag of takis and water. And Brit posts amen 🙏 this is the life. God is good❤️
OMG Brittney, every time I say "meanwhile" too I want to follow it with "back at the ranch." I've never heard anyone else say they do that so this is hilarious to me! Also, you tell the stories like no other. I just love how you do it.
No other person I have watched has gone into so much of the back story to Travis. My heart is broken for Travis and Susie. Moral of the story, don’t rip a baby a chimpanzee from his mother you horrible humans.

"As he looks into her eyes...wondering where his Momma was." 😭😭😭 just let the babies stay with their Mommas
Half way through and this has got me in my feelings so sad
I’m from CT and this is still talked about a lot- was surprised to see it here! ❤

This is the only true crime case that has ever made me scared and gave me chills, my heart goes out to her
I just held my dog and cried during this story.
