  • Ryan is going to be doing some mileage in the 320d, that means lots of testing! How reliable will it be? What will break? Over the course of the year we're going to let you know what it's like to run one of these cars if you're interested in buying one.

From what I understand the 320d e46 150hp has bad stories of turbo failing regularly, due to the turbulence fins that many in fact removed? did this happen to you? 320d the 136 hp seems poor to me, the 330d consumes and costs more in maintenance. The 150 hp would be my future goal if it is reliable as turbine and other things that do not concern normal maintenance! Nice stickers 😁

The swirl flaps have been removed and the 320d makes 150bhp standard. With a map it makes 180bhp. It’s very nippy.
Thank you, sticker gang for life 👊

Hello, a bit to late probably but as a 320d facelift driver I want to give you some tips about the car. I have the E46 320d 110kw 150hp limousine 2004. The biggest issue which I had was the weight of air if it is so called in english. It was pretty bad because it does not control just the flow of the air but probably the temperature too or something similar, because my car was thinking it is -4 celsius out, or gor you London people 2 fahrenheit, even though it was +25 celsius or 95 fahrenheit outside. The problem was I changed the air temperature sensor on the suction hose, but it did not help... so I changed it again for a more expensive one, didnt help... My car was making me a winter mix of air and diesel, in summer what made the car more slower... the turbo was not working properly, it kicked from 2500 rpm, what is actually bad. In reality it should go slowly of 1500-1700 rpm and from 2000rpm there should be a nice gradual kick. So in the end I bought a BOSCH air weight, which helped so much, that I was in a shock :D. The next think, the air weight was old and from oil, because the turbo was pretty old, I was hearing turbo whistles when the motor was cold, It wasnt terrible but It made me worried, so I changed it and the car worked amazing. The think is, if you hear whistles on a cold start, or you get a motor control light and the computer finds out that there is a problem with the air weight, you have a bad turbo. I would recommend buy just BOSCH, because I had not really good experiences with HELLA for example... The next whink which I recommend, is to blend the EGR, take of the swirl flaps, get a KN air filter, (you need to probably disable the swirl flaps and EGR with computer(, and you get revs faster, smoother running and overall better emissions :D. My car with EGR, flaps, normal filter had 0,77 grams for 100km... when without EGR, flaps and with KN filter it had 0.13 :D what is amazing... If someone wants to see it I can make a screen of the papers... @inrich__ . I would probably change the hardy clutch, because they get pretty quickly old and transmission oil... My transmission oil was a bit dirty, nothing serious, the magnet catches every metal dust or stuff, but better change then later cry. I changed the diferencial oil too, but that was so clean, it looked like brand new from the shop so I would not recommend that... You will probably change the clutch and the pressure plate too, best way is SACHS, if you want something better then SACHS performance :D you can kick it the how much you want. And I whink thats all for the BMW... If you have more questions you can write me on instagram

Passed it on to a friend. Only thing I know of is the fuel lines came loose off the electric heater before the engine. Otherwise bullet proof.

It’s been flawless but since getting a 330i and ULEZ coming in I haven’t driven it but my friend and my sister have with no issues
