@@nir9670 Eric only???? Ever heard of Leon Russell? Bass player, Carl Radle worked with Leon for years. Jim Gordon, the ego tripper, was one of the greatest drummers of all time. Everybody wanted him for studio session work. Duane Allman. Slide master that Eric was in awe of. Leader of the Allman Brothers Band.Really? Just Clapton? Bobby Whitlock played organ for Delaney and Bonnie and friends. He was one of the friends...so was Clapton. They played together on George Harrison's, 'All Things Must Pass'. I didn't tell the whole story either.
Duane was a session player in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Clapton heard Wicked Wilson Pickett's cover of the Beatles' Hey Jude, featuring Duane's guitar playing. That collaboration was the Beginning of Southern Rock. You can hear that on TH-cam, too. After that, Duane moved across town to Sheffield to work with the Famous Swampers at Muscle Shoals Sound. Duane was living in a little log cabin on the banks of the Tennessee River in Sheffield where he fished, wrote songs and music and put together a band that would become The Allman Brothers Band. The log cabins are gone but not the aura of the place. Clapton called Duane in Sheffield and told him that they just had to do something together! The result? You're listening to it.

Actually, yeah, he did win "Layla" (Patti Boyd) over from his best friend, George Harrison (yes, that George Harrison - who also worked in studio with Clapton on the Dominos project). Not a good story, but boy did it generate a song for the rock pantheon.
Layla was released back in 1972 by Derek and the Dominos as a single in support of its parent album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Singing lead vocals is Eric Clapton and the guitar he used when Derek and the Dominos recorded Layla was a desert sunburst Fender Stratocaster named Brownie and when Fender released the Eric Clapton Brownie Stratocaster, it was dubbed The Layla Guitar. Playing slide guitar is Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band and the piano part at the end was played by Jim Gordon. Because it was a big hit, Eric Clapton included the song in his solo concerts and the song became popular again thanks to his acoustic version from the album Eric Clapton Unplugged which was released in 1992. The 1972 version hit #1 on the Puerto Rican Singles Chart, #7 on the UK Singles Chart, #10 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #14 on the US Cash Box Singles Chart and #12 on the US Record World Singles Chart.
They could make an entire documentary on this arrangement. From the brilliant slide guitar work by Duane Allman (the high squealy Gibson), to Clapton's anguish filled vocals & Fender playing, to Rita Coolidge's piano coda, Bobby Whitlock's support piano, Jim Gordon and his complicated life, Carl Radle's outstanding bass playing, and the brilliant producer Tom Dowd. This really is a masterpiece.
So glad you loved “Layla”. It’s a classic that gives me the chills every time I hear it. Kudos to Duane Allman for the exceptional slide guitar work ❤️
Hi from UK, absolutely loved this, it was very much part of my teenage years, we all put this on the juke box for weeks , thanks for the reaction and memories 😀😉🌶😊🤗🤩
I was a young lad back in the sixties working gigs on weekends and had the awesome pleasure of watching Eric Clapton from no more than three feet away playing in the band John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, don’t remember the date, but probably around 1965/66. Amazing.
It's time to do the Allman Brothers and their live version of "Whipping Post". Jim Gordon, the drummer here, wrote the beautiful piano part in this song. What a sad history that guy had. The truth is every song Clapton wrote on this album was a plea to Patti to accept his love and marry him. She is often quoted as saying when she finally heard the album she was flattered, shocked and perhaps a bit upset. I never saw this band, although at the time I sure had my chances. But I did see Eric with Stevie Winwood when they played in NYC with their band Blindfaith. It was their only NYC appearance.
@@selmonb921 ...and that's not sad? What sociopathic planet do you live on? When the police walked in the door Gordon said something like "I finally killed the demon bitch. She's in there". I suppose that Marvin Gaye's death, where it was basically suicide by dad isn't sad either?
YAY! I'm glad you did this one. I knew you'd like it, especially for the guitar and for the switch-up at the end. This is one of those songs that you'd stay in your car to finish listening to - all the way to the end - even if you were late for an appointment. LOL It feels to me like the first part is a desperate and despondent man in love screaming "can't you see me? I've been here for you every step of the way! Why do you keep going back to him?" Then that little pause is like her finally stopping herself from repeating the same mistake, looking around, seeing him there (still and again), and the realization of the beautiful truth starts to flow into her.....and her life and his life become THEIR life...off into the sunset. Sorry you're sore today...takes a few to get over it, so take it easy.

Not the right song for a day with a sore body. Nope! they had other hits but they did split up after a short while. Eric is singing. His guitar, his song, his voice. Eric was so enamored with her and later she split from George and got together with Eric and they remained together for a long time. George is playing guitar on this song as well though I don't know if he is credited. Eric also played the guitar on Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Eric and George were lifetime friends in spite of the whole Patty thing.

He's discovering new music.... chill...
@@Liofa73 lol exactly
Don’t fault the young-ones, they just don’t know any better!!! I was introduced very young to all types of music.
Awesome... Check out "Bell Bottom Blues" from this same album... Fantastic song.

Eric clapton wrote and sang this son for George Harrison wife who he was in love with.He ended up with her and also wrote and sang wonderful tonight about her
The #1 Greatest Rock and Roll song of all time.
One of my two favourite Eric Clapton songs, the other being Badge by Cream. I love your channel Jayvon and the enthusiastic reactions you show to all your videos. I look forward every day to what you are going to react to next. Definitely the best music reaction channel I've come across.
You've got to read the background on the song. Eric Clapton loving George Harrisons wife! Eric Clapton was the singer.
Hope you feel better soon
Omg they all mixed up their bands, tight knit crowd! Some of the bands didn't last long... But they all kept playing, creating more masterpieces🤩
I always think of "Goodfellows" when I hear this song play.
One of my all time favorites. Brilliant reaction s usual! Thanks and hope you are feeling better.
The slow version he did of this song is smoldering hot too.
Never cared for that slowed down version.
Yes, please review it
This song and GFRs I'm Your Captain were the first songs that I remember when I first discovered "FM" radio as a kid. Opened my world to SO much music!
Actually, yeah, he did win "Layla" (Patti Boyd) over from his best friend, George Harrison (yes, that George Harrison - who also worked in studio with Clapton on the Dominos project). Not a good story, but boy did it generate a song for the rock pantheon.
George was already messing with Ringo's wife Maureen (first wife), and wasn't exactly fighting to keep Pattie. As Pattie tells it, anyway.
After hearing it on AM radio I couldn't wait to hear it properly.
AM radio, I don’t think younger people get the reference
One of the best most iconic opening guitar riffs ever !
A great early 80s one hit wonder is "The Beat Goes On/switching to Glide" it was on the radio constantly.
He does a slowed down version as well, in the 90s I believe
Oh my gosh I love this song. It's such a up beat song. From the start. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder.
Classic guitar riff.
I was a young lad back in the sixties working gigs on weekends and had the awesome pleasure of watching Eric Clapton from no more than three feet away playing in the band John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, don’t remember the date, but probably around 1965/66.
Amazing.
Technically, this was the only hit by Derek & the Dominos, but "Bell Bottom Blues", which I recommend, is something of an FM radio classic.
Yea I heard bell bottom blues on my way home tonight 👍✌️♥️
_Why does love got to be so sad, Key to the highway, Tell the truth..._ it's a cornucopia.
One of the most iconic songs in all of rock. Eeeeeeverybody knows this one! :)
Sad story about Gordon? The dude was all messed on drugs and then killed his own mother with a hammer! I believe he's still locked up.
@@selmonb921 ...and that's not sad? What sociopathic planet do you live on? When the police walked in the door Gordon said something like "I finally killed the demon bitch. She's in there". I suppose that Marvin Gaye's death, where it was basically suicide by dad isn't sad either?
I would have never classified Derek & The Dominos as one hit wonders! They are awesome rock legends! Oh my youth!!
Yeah! Chill out, guys! 😂😂💖👍
YAY! I'm glad you did this one. I knew you'd like it, especially for the guitar and for the switch-up at the end. This is one of those songs that you'd stay in your car to finish listening to - all the way to the end - even if you were late for an appointment. LOL
It feels to me like the first part is a desperate and despondent man in love screaming "can't you see me? I've been here for you every step of the way! Why do you keep going back to him?" Then that little pause is like her finally stopping herself from repeating the same mistake, looking around, seeing him there (still and again), and the realization of the beautiful truth starts to flow into her.....and her life and his life become THEIR life...off into the sunset.
Sorry you're sore today...takes a few to get over it, so take it easy.
vocals and earlier guitar parts by Eric Clapton (mostly) unforgettable slide guitar solo by Duane Allman (R.I.P.).
Duane is playing the riff and guitar throughout the first part of the song, too. He isn’t just playing the slide during the Coda.
I was 10 years old when this came out. I’m 60 now and still listening to Eric Clapton. His music has no end! Old rock granny I am.
Derek and the Dominoes did this album and a double "Live in Concert" album.
This track takes you on a ride. You’ll never forget it after hearing it. It haunts like a ghost in your heart.
This is an awesome album! "Layla" was actually Patti Boyd.
As was stated, this is one of the greatest songs of all time, and the entire album is a must hear. Enjoy, also i really appreciate your reactions. Your a fine young man, it is easy to see your world opening up to a new world of music. Keep on rocking in the free world. I'm 77 and i truly love your reactions. Layla was Patti Boyd, George Harrison's wife.
Jackie Wilson: lonely teardrops.
Anybody who plays the piano loves this song. It is a must in the playlist. I drove my piano teacher crazy when I found the sheet music for this song back in the day.
Duane Allman and Bobby Whitlock were as great as Eric was on this ..Without Bobby's piano style and the slide guitar by Duane ,this song would not have been the same..
Duane wrote the riff and plays most of the lead throughout the first half of the song, too.
@@ugadawgs1990 YEP and Jim Gordon ,drummer ,,he got that piano opening from Rita Coolidge or Rita's sister that was playing it and he heard it and it became the iconic piano ending for this song .
MOST EXCELLENT JAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST THE WAY THE GUITARS SCREAM ..IT IS AWESOME
I am thrilled yesssssssssssssssssssssddd
The soaring slide guitar was Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers. He also had fantastic collaborations with Aretha Franklin and Boz Scaggs.
Wilson Pickett was another collaborator with Duane Allman.
Always a great choice.
One of my favorite albums of all time ❤️
I like this version so much, not the slowed down version he did later in his solo career. Better vibes imo
Hey Blood !! This song helped get me through Army basic training in 1972 !! It's my main "driving" song to this day !! Lead singer was Eric Clapton.
This song was his tribute to George Harrison's wife, Patti Boyd...a woman that Clapton loved and eventually married.
You should react to " San Francisco " by Scott McKenzie, and also " Pray for You " by Jaron and the Long Road to Love.
one of my favorite songs all-time! HAD TO CLICK!!!!!!
It may be a “one hit wonder”, but it’s a TRUE CLASSIC! You should listen to
Clapton’s acoustic rendition.
I love this song! The musical ending makes me feel some type of way!
Layla was Patty Boyd, who was married to George Harrison at the time.
One of the greatest songs ever made.
Not the right song for a day with a sore body. Nope! they had other hits but they did split up after a short while. Eric is singing. His guitar, his song, his voice. One of my favorite rock songs of all time. Let It Rain is also a great song from this band and Bell Bottom Blues. Layla was a girl named Patty who was George Harrison's (Beatles) wife or girlfriend.
"Let it Rain" is also on their "in concert" album too... Great version.
The studio version of "Let It Rain" is Clapton solo, not Derek & the Dominos.
Actually both the men treated her pretty badly ,neither stayed with her both too engrossed in their own concerns .Mind you ,both had amazing musical carrers
One of the most famous songs ever
Bell bottom blues another cool song by them
Derek and the Dominoes was put together by Eric Clapton lasted only 1970-1971. The lead singer is Eric Clapton. I think they only produced 1 album. The other song from the album which was somewhat of hit was Bell Bottom Blues.
Clapton is singing.
Yay! You took my suggestion! Could be the most recognizable guitar riff in rock and roll history! I loved your face when the song started. That riff seemed to catch your attention fast, then your eyes darted back and forth in almost a confusion! 😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank you, JV! Rest and get yourself well! 💜💜💜
The reason people got made about it not being a one hit wonder is because Derek and the Dominos were never really considered a band, it's really just an Eric Clapton album with guests on it, he just decided to call it Derek and the Domino's but it's just another Clapton album, so yeah not a one hit wonder.
yes.... as some pointed out Layla IS Patti Boyd/Harrison/Clapton... Plus... the song 'Something'... by the Beatles.. is also about her... as well as the song by Eric Clapton called 'Wonderful Tonight'.... You really need to check out all three...
Eric Clapton has always been a success. Great album. Youre terrific Jayvon!!
I can listen to Clapton ALL DAY and never get tired of that guitar or that voice! Others have shared the back story re this song. Lots of drama, but from pain sometimes comes great music. We're still rocking out to Layla almost 50 years later!
