These interviews are very illuminating, they add a thoughtful reconsideration of Nixon as a strategist in foreign and domestic policy. I don't excuse his Watergate excesses, but he is considerably more relaxed in this forum than he was during the David Frost interviews. He is more transparent and honest, I believe.

I’ve read accounts that Nixon scuttled a LBJ peace deal prior to the 68 election. There are LBJ phone recordings of him discussing this with a Senator. As an 8th grader, I watched our withdrawal from Viet Nam on TV as the North Vietnamese moved on our embassy as we helicoptered our people out. I was very young when Vietnam started and ended but it was on TV every night when Walter Cronkite gave us the news. I was also still young as Watergate played out but it was TV news back then, we believed in Cronkite and Viet Nam and Watergate were the news items that I recall with some MLK and RFK mixed in.

I think Nixon ‘s pledge to the South Vietnamese government was a genuine one; however, it was politically beneficial to him to expedite the signing of the peace agreement in order to withdraw the U.S. troops from Vietnam. Honoring such a pledge by the U.S. government including the Congress was his secondary concern. U.S. allies will forever subject to uncertainty of the U.S. politics when they are dependent on the U.S. military aids, except Israel which has almost all U.S. politicians (both Republicans and Democrats) under its influence. South Vietnam was one of the victims and so was Afghanistan. If Trump wins the coming election or the Republicans win both houses in November, Ukraine will be another victim.

Of course socialism is a temporary escape from anarchy and monarchy. When things recover, -- a free-for -all !

@@Mike44460 The US gov't is the source of all those deaths--How can you shamelessly blame the VC for defending their own country, when they never wanted us there? The war started as a Christian vs. Buddhist; the VC were peripheral at the start. Did you believe the hype?

    Nixon lauding Kissinger 😂😂
Only a genocide of 4 million south-east Asians murdered, all for the MIC
"Kissinger and Nixon knew exactly what was going on. In The Blood Telegram, a bracing history of Nixon and Kissinger’s complicity in the killings, Princeton professor Gary Bass relays an astounding conversation where the two entertain a comparison between Pakistan’s genocide and the Holocaust, and still conclude that doing literally anything to stop it would be unwise."

I think it was because he still saw it in terms of the Cold War (Where are you getting 4 million from? The maximum I can find is 3,000,000 and I suspect that is exaggerated.) and India trying to take over Pakistan rather than India freeing Bangladesh. Also what exactly could he do to stop it? He was already trying to stop Cambodia from being genocided and the Americans hated that.
