    Thanks for that reaction! I really appreciate your profound analysis of the feelings that causing, every sound and every word sung by Dimash. Anyone who can't feel Dimash, is just empty from inside. Even his six octaves are not so important. More important is what he can do with them and the way he does it. Dimash doesn't need his high notes to blow you away. But if, in addition to all his perfection, we add his overly human abilities, then he becomes an absolutely impeccable human being. This issue with "human being" has not been proven yet. It's still under consideration...😉 There are emotional performances, technically perfect performances and entertaining performances. He combine all three of them and it makes him as powerful as a nuclear bomb. His ability to mixes pop, rock, opera, rap, hip hop and r&b music, in his own unique way makes him a favorite singer to fans of any style of music. Dimash is like a bullet with a shifted center - he enters through the ears and eyes, passes through the brain, pierce the heart and stuck into the soul. You do not need to know the language, to be able to feel the emotions, which he inject into the audience with his incredible talent to recreates the text and the melody into a body dance. He paints pictures in your mind, only with his voice. That's Dimash.

    I worked around jet aircraft in my youth and even with sound suppression ear protection your hearing gets damaged. My damage took place in the ranges females usually sing so I listen to male singers for the deeper ranges. The deeper and vibrant the voice the more goosebumps I get. What I find amazing with Dimash is that there is a texture to the more "female" notes he makes that I can hear clearly without the note making me feel like my skin was crawling, my reason for avoiding most female singers. At first I thought my hearing had improved....not the case...I tested it...still going to avoid female singers...very disheartening. When I heard people say he sounded female in some of his ranges, I was surprised, even at his highest (not whistle) he sounded male to me. The richness of his voice cares through his higher female notes. I haven't gotten goosebumps from a high note in a long time so it is very exciting for me. For me your baby crying comparison for grabbing attention....when I hear a baby cry I just want to rip my ears off....they sound a lot like the high pitch whine that comes from electrical high tension wires....gets my attention but also makes me want to run away.

      I am not sure if I have hearing damage but I know I have very sensitive left ear meaning I can hear very tiny insect sounds from nearby forest using my left. When I listen to high pitch songs they are too thorny for my ear but I am okay with all Dimash's high notes. They are more rounded and comfortable to listen to.

    • @patriciaoster7020
      @patriciaoster7020 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@cy4330 I had my hearing checked after my stint with jets. There are tones related to women's voices that I can't hear when spoken but can hear when sung and yes they are very thorny. I have always been able to hear the buzzy sounds made by those pesky insects and high voltage wires...I would have been happier loosing that part of my hearing except I have four sisters and now have a built in excuse to not hearing what they are saying.......Dimash's voice being rounded is a great way of describing it.

    Gems from Dimash: it’s difficult to be a star, if you think you already are; I want to showcase my country and bring art back to singing; I find rock n roll noisy; I would never do anything to embarrass or disrespect my parents; don’t worry how much time and effort I spent on my voice, just enjoy the end result; I don’t think about octaves, it’s still a work in progress; If I sing to emotionally reserved audiences and If I make one or two people smile, it makes me happy; my fans are close to my heart, like family and I call them dears; you must remain humble to achieve greater heights;

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reaction with us. I really enjoyed how you took both a personal and professional view of the song. This was my favourite performance of the singer. This song just touches my emotions. Most of his songs resonate with me. Which is why I listen to him, if looked at subjectively. Tone, emotions, song choice it all speaks to me. Not everyone will feel that way to a certain singer.
    His newest song hit me even more. Love is like a Dream is packed full of emotions. I feel like I have gotten off of a roller coaster and my legs have given out. Crazy thing is I get back in line to do it all over again. I do think that the singers emotions make a difference. Some songs are emotional but if the singer doesn’t connect to those emotions it comes off flat. Dimash to me feels things deeply. It comes through of course in many ways to reach out and pull you into the song. 😊

    Speaking as an older woman, I get goose bumps. Not the reason a younger woman would,, but because his singing is so very beautiful. I think whatever this thing that Dimash has is genetic. His mother is an opera singer. Because of his interest in music at a young age, they started his training at the age of five. He is trained to be an opera singer and he decided he didn’t want to just sing opera. He wanted to do his own thing and he’s good at it. There are videos of Dimash singing without music. His voice is still beautiful. 😊

    And don't forget he was singing a language he doesn't speak and it's on a compitition stage singing live. He delivered ver well, although I can tell he was nervous and kept looking up the screen for the lyrics. This eye movement was the only tiny thing that got me a little distracted. As a Chinese, I can say his Chinese pronunciation was really good.

    First, this specific performance just blows me away dynamically. He manages to convey the importance of the feelings being expressed and a sense of longing. The higher notes take that sense of longing and add sadness to it. He is a master. When I finally discovered the video on Gloria Wu's channel that gave me the backstory of the song, it just impressed me even more. You can hear her longing for home. I could talk about Dimash and his tone changes all day but there is one example that really gets to me. It's his "crying " tone. He does a flip between a mixed voice and falsetto and uses it to create a tone of desperation. How does it affect me emotionally? It makes me want to give him the world. 🤣 Gets me every time. I'll find a specific example and post link/times below. Love your videos and the format. (Are we a secret research project? 😉😂). Thank you for your time and effort.

I cried. Second time I heard it was with subtitles. I cried. Third time I heard it was with the backstory. I cried. Now, no matter what mood I'm in, it's that note he sings at the end of the descending scale at 5:22 in your video. It gets me every single time...instant tears. I don't know exactly why, but it's that broken note that conveys to me all the surrender, acceptance and inevitability of the sorrow and loss expressed throughout this song. For me, the entire song is captured in that one single note.

Not until I heard of Dimash singing. I lost count how many times I listened to this song. Sometimes it serves me as lullaby before I fell asleep. So much magic Dimash makes with his voice. He is truly vocal magician. My second lullaby is Dimash - Meaning of Eternity, also in Mandarin and now I have third lullaby Dimash - Ascota Le Voce. And you know what, Dr. Reynolds? Whatever anatomical and scientific explanation you give to Dimash performance, you wont' take from me this enjoyment of Dimash. Dimash had operatic training for 4 years and was offered a position with the Kazakhstan opera but he turned it down because he wanted to explore all the aspects and range of his voice. Hi Dr Marc,
    Thx again for your reaction and explanation. You love to pass the knowledge and experience you have which I really appreciate. I was also excited to hear that you’re excited and interested too in talented and amazing Dimash. I listened to him life at his concert in Moscow end March and believe me (as a listener) he fills the concert hall with his voice, as you stated his voice will overpower the orchestra. The feeling you have is that he takes you on a journey with him while singing. He’s like a painter singing with stunning colours not only with his voice but also body language and facial expressions. Pls react to more videos of Dimash like Love is lika a dream and the meaning of eternity or swan goose.
    Thx in advance🙏👍👏

    I'm not a vocal student, but to me the most emotionally effective technique is when he switches between what is probably called a mixed voice to a soft falsetto of the same note, the best example being at 14:09 of your video. It just seems to exude caring and gentleness. And then there is the high wordless passage - especially the surprise key change on the last note of it. And the first time I heard the last note of the piece, I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard.

    Dimash could sing an entire opera all by himself...playing all of the parts as well...you need to see Notre Dame de Paris..and a Question of Honor...duets with two grand Opera stars...Yes, Dimash wanted to explore more musical genres..(Aren't we grateful) and a bigger stage than just the theater...We would never have seen or heard him...I would say that he could perform in any opera and pack the venue...

    It's more and more clear to me that playing with colors add some special sounds that makes songs unique, very subtle and elegant. Transitions are easier for me to catch and dimash seems to do it flawlessly. I understood the difference between creating and shaping, latter seems much more difficult for me. As always, interesting and cool.

    Thank you, Dr. Reynolds, you have mentioned something new to me. It is consistency of the air flow that connects all the registers, allowing seamless transitions. Thank you for pointing the shapes and colors in this particular song. I have been capable to hear that more clearly in "Sinful Passion", where it is more obvious, with more contrast. Yes, he does change them even within the same line, sometimes word by word. What I can say, Dimash is using a lot of means to capture and arrest attention of the audience. It is basically not possible to listen to his songs on the background, doing something else. Believe me, I tried. Does not work. Every single one of them demands my full attention, from the beginning to the end. It is like... a striking photo that is almost too much, and can be viewed for couple of minutes, but would not work well as part of interior. One would not put a portrait of Afghan girl by Steve McCurry on the wall of one's living room. Same here. For me it is not some particular shades I love. It is the contrast between them. Like the very last note of S.O.S. in "Singer" Episode 1, where he does that little crescendo on "o", making sound brighter, and than bringing it back into shade.

    • @DrMarcReynolds
      @DrMarcReynolds  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I love how you describe your experience here. I like your analogy here - I feel the same way. You have to stop and listen - it is just too attention grabbing to play in the background. Which is amazing.... unless you have to focus on something else 🤓

    I do agree that emotions can carry away with voice and body language and Dimash is not a sucha singer but also as an actor on the stage... Withhis voice and his tecnic we all feel the emotions... In this awsome performance he also uses his hand to reach to the audiences as ifhe wants to reache his feelings... Andoff course its oyr nature that when we hear the high sounds it will immediately warn our sympatic nervous system

    He makes me want to sing. In fact, he makes me sing. I'm not singing but my body is vibrating as in singing. I am aware of the sensations of song all over my body. His voice is a call to song. It isn't even a competition, it's a shared experience. This description is sort of flowery and fanciful but it isn't wrong.

    Late Autumn is one of my favorites, but it's not a song you'd want to present if you needed to impress the execs in a minute before they send out the hook to take you off because it has a slow buildup. I'm sure that's why SOS is such a good audition piece for him for those who don't know him. The technical factors may be even a bit higher in his new song Love is like a dream. Hard to believe, yes.///// ---- Purists might have a problem with creating orchestration around his singing from a known piece if for some reason his voice doesn't carry though the mix, but then maybe a piece should be created specifically for him. He can work the drama really well. I imagine in an opera he'd have to die tragically singing at the end bringing the audience to gasps sorrow and standing ovation.
    Word salad, sorry.
