    Love these videos. This is something I would love to do in the future and this is really inspiring me. I see there are a lot more videos so I look forward to watching them all. Happy sailing. And I hope you start getting better luck.

      +Russell Lewis not such thing as good luck with boats as repairs are a constant cycle but a labour of love too.

    Love the videos, keep them coming - A Happy New Year.
    Remember, you are going to sea. Everything will be under greater strain and in a corrosive atmosphere. The stays and spreaders will come under a great load when you're beating through a sea so fix them right. Rivets like you say not glue. That goes for anything else you mend as well. Tip - don't use brass at sea, use bronze

    There is nothing like finding a way of fixing, or making something for next to nothing. I am sure you will get to find things in the future that will help you keep going. I have had a go at steering a Mobo, and to say it is a vague science is a bit of an understatement. Hopefully you will develop a 6th sense that will help avoid their interest.

    That upload had a lot happening in it! I was thinking, when you spoke highly of that elderly sailor, how similar you appear to me and probably others. It's because I've come to sense that your outlook is nearly always positive. Nor is your mood easily dented. And your nature seems to be thoroughly decent. These are qualities I'd love to have and possess. I'm afraid though that my anger and frustration often defeat me leading to negative thoughts and low mood. But you always cheer me up. Take care of yourself. And I hope those imbeciles at the helm of their hire boats behave themselves!

      Asphalt Ricky That's an interesting point you raised there, as I would like to discuss it in further videos. You see the thing is, being on the water brings out the best in people and you see that in nearly everyone you come across.
      It's not an escape from reality although it seems to complement a lot of people's mindset, even dogs love it so I have to add that I always trust their perception after all they have been man's best friend since times long gone.

      High Seas - Living On A Boat it's great to get and read your reply. I have a lot of respect for you...for doing what you're doing and have done. Particularly, at times, in fairly unfriendly and harsh conditions.
      As a couple, without kids, and also with a not unreasonable disposable income, we travel a fair bit. But the only place and location we repeat and return to year after year is the Norfolk Broads. It's not that it's entirely old fashioned, but I believe it's something to do with the pace of it all. People literally slow down as their boat gently reaches top speed of around 6 mph! It's prob, also, the lack all things fast paced and modern. Like the car, technology, retail, roads etc.
      I must get back to work.....my breaks over!!

    Hi I just started watching your videos today. What is a hire boat? Is it a water taxi? And did they pay you after they hit you're boat three times?

    • @NorfolkBroadsForum
      @NorfolkBroadsForum  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope they did not pay. most of the time you come back to your boat to find a fender ripped off, or similar and no boat in sight....just a nice scratch down the side somewhere. Luckily private boat owners keep an eye out but personally I just go and report them straight away to the Broads Authority, as fleeing the scene is a navigational byelaw and dealing with a hire boat company is generally less salubrious.

      Yes I have been very fortunate and I am glad I have done it. If living on a yacht in a beautiful waterways makes me a gypsy? Then I will gladly adhere to that title with pride and dignity because only when you get to be this close to the real life do you realise that the old saying about for whatever we lose it is always ourselves we find at sea.
