  • The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has disbursed agricultural inputs to farmers in Abia, Kebbi, and Yobe as part of its commitment to ensuring food security amidst global resource challenges and food shortages.
The distribution of inputs aims to support farmers nationwide in maximizing crop cultivation for enhanced yields and increased food production. In Abia and Yobe States, beneficiaries received high-quality fertilizer, herbicides, and improved maize seeds, while in Kebbi, they obtained improved rice seeds capable of covering half a hectare of farmland efficiently.
In Abia, beneficiaries from all local governments, including nominees from the state government and various farmers’ associations, gathered at the NALDA Institute of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship in IsiAla Okpu community, Osisioma Local Government Area, to receive the empowerment packages from NALDA officials.
Prince Paul Ikonne, Executive Secretary of NALDA, emphasized the program’s significance during his address to the farmers, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring self-sufficiency by providing necessary inputs. He assured continuous support and follow-up assistance to beneficiaries, with their details captured in NALDA’s database.
Ikonne reiterated that the program aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to enhance food availability and affordability for Nigerians. He encouraged farmers to utilize the inputs effectively, aiming for 340 hectares of cultivated land through this initiative.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the federal government’s support, acknowledging the timely intervention in addressing challenges like fertilizer accessibility. They pledged to maximize the inputs to boost food production.
In Yobe State, the NALDA team, led by Director of Finance Mr. Suleiman Lawal, distributed inputs in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area, benefiting farmers from six local government areas.
This empowerment program mirrors President Tinubu’s directive to NALDA, reinforcing the country’s food security agenda and mitigating the impact of rising living costs. The anticipated outcomes from this initiative are expected to contribute significantly to reducing food prices in the market within the next 3 to 4 months.
