Thank you for this! Loved every minute of it, even the commercials (isn't it funny how we hate watching commercials in present time but the old ones are fun to watch). You know what else is funny - I'm not a smoker, never been a smoker, dislike second-hand smoke and everything, but for some odd reason I like these old shows where everyone was smoking. I guess it's probably just a nostalgic thing of how things were when I was a little kid haha. Thanks again for this and the other BR clips!

All, the rock guys Bowed to Him in the late 60's and 70's .Before they were teens...Yes, He was a consumate Big band Jazz Musician .He plowed the road ... Thank you VERY much Drumuitar for this and all of the BR appearances on Carson that you have been posting of late, sincerely. This one in particular holds a special place IMO because the interview clearly reveals, contrary to popular opinion, that Buddy was a deeply sensitive man. (Of course those of us who know and love Buddy have always been aware there is no way you can play music they way he did without incredible depth of feeling. But not so the general public I suspect.) From Buddy's reaction when Cathy is talking about him, I don't think she was kidding about him crying frequently at TV shows, because he would sympathize or empathize with characters... including Lassie!!
O.O.A.K he was indeed. One of a Kind. Very, very special.

Trust me, it has been my great pleasure. The least I could do for Buddy, to help ensure his video legacy, considering how much he meant to me in my musical life starting when I was just a teenager in the 70s. I had only been into rock, but my father kept bugging me to listen to his Buddy Rich albums. When I finally took his advice and listened to the Blues Caravan album, followed by Swingin' New Big Band, I was instantly hooked for life! Turned my drumming life upside down. And here I am all these decades later appreciating him every bit as much.

Buddy did a plug there for the Henry Adler QuietTone Drum Mute, Henry’s proud invention. I studied with Henry at his W. 48th St. studio in the early 80s. He and Buddy were very close friends for many years, from the very beginning of Buddy’s career at the Hickory House I believe, old Brooklyn guys.
Honestly that wasn’t a very good plug, he didn’t really give the name of the product or state that it was available at your local drum store or whatever. But considering he never plugged products, that was amazing, rare. I bet Henry was ecstatic

He was referring to RCA, which his album “Stick It” was on in ‘72. It was (in my opinion) possibly his worst album. They forced him to play poppy stuff that he never would’ve voluntarily played, and the sound quality of the recording was very lackluster.

Now, she was easy to the eye, but she can't sing for life. So, though I share most of Rich's criticism toward most of the pop music scene, his credibility goes right down the drain after he praises this crappy song and his daughter's performance. Other great musicians, confronted with their children lack of talent, were rather firm in preventing them from making a fool of themselves and their parent. BR was not the best of parents in this regard.

Typical Buddy. I love these drummers that have to bring their own foot pedal, own cymbals, own snare and set up everything to within a fraction of an inch to their perfection and then they can't play worth a shit.
