My main hate is the litter that they leave on the beaches.
We really appreciate our little time we get to have in Cornwall each year and we treat Cornwall as if I we lived there full time and even pick up rubbish from others. Take only photos and leave only foot prints.
My slightly second pet hate is when TH-camrs start throwing up when on a fishing trip 😂😂

Sorry, I am a teacher in germany. Not only tourist leave their rubbish. In our school the pupils eat something and throw their rubbish on the ground. A meter away is a litter box. I think some people aren't educated enough by their parents. In my opinion rhere are too many people who have children without any experience or the will to pay the price for beeing parents.

Hi, we were on holiday in Cornwall for the 27th time this year, normally May and September, and look for the quiet places when walking. We are also interested in Cornish history, not just where to get the best pasty, reading books, watching Sarah and Andrew's interesting posts. This year we were in Porthleven in February. But it was still well attended everywhere. But I would avoid the high season. Since 2006, tourism in St. Ives has increased alarmingly. I can understand people being upset about parking and people being unfriendly. Our experience has been that people have always been very friendly to us and we are always happy to come back:)). It is not as quiet as it used to be, but we walk and explore the area where there are no crowds. I think many tourists don't wan't that. I also think it's terrible that Cornish people can't find affordable houses, because of second homes, and the poverty in the towns. But that also exists here in Germany and will certainly increase in the future. Unfortunately, my commentary was longer. Sorry. Thank you very much for your work and the videos. Cheers,Gabi:)

We are a pretty friendly bunch, to be fair. One major thing that grinds my gears is that we are 'dependant on tourism'; as if there's nothing else. Therefore, we must bow and scrape, and be grateful for every penny earned. Whilst I agree that tourism plays a big part, there are the rest of us in ordinary, everyday jobs, that keep the county running, day in and day out.

I'm now more than ever inspired to visit Cornwall because of this slam dunk promotional video. As accommodating as I am, I shall arrive in the winter in order to not annoy any Cornwallians in the summer months. I am utterly convinced that I shall prove myself to be anything but loathsome due in part to the fact that I will dump my children in an orphanage before I head out. I will expect no WiFi since the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce shall guide me to all that is interesting. I will also visit that chippy that you promoted in one of your Cornwall "hidden gems"-promoting videos since you've obviously gone the extra kilometer to put the best face on your welcoming and historically-significant region.

As a visitor the Cornwall on many occasions over the years, I do take most of your points on board. However it is very difficult for those of us with children to take holidays with our children during term time and we would be heavily penalised for doing so. If my wife and I were child free, we would obviously visit at other less busy times, however clearly this is the fault of the powers that be and not individual families, so maybe it should be the 5 things you hate about tourists instead of 6. By the way my favorite beach in Cornwall is Sandymouth with that fantastic walk along to Bude.

Blame Michael Gove. Until a few years ago, you could take the kids out of school for up to 10 days, at the head-teacher's discretion. Not any more, thanks to Michael Gove's stint as Education Secretary. Gove introduced new laws that mean no parent can take their child out of school except in "exceptional circumstances" - or risk prosecution, or even a custodial sentence. This prices a lot of people out of going on holiday at all, as prices are vastly inflated during the school holidays. It also means that, if they want a holiday with their kids, parents who work in hospitality in touristy places are forced to ask for time off work during their workplace's busiest time of year.

I have been coming to Cornwall for over 50 years, as a child, then with my own children, and now as semi retirees we visit every year, sometimes twice, we avoid the school holidays, and have noticed even in late June its a lot busier than it used to be, early May, mid/late September are our usual times and we have walked most of the coast path, we did stay just outside St Ives over New Year a few years back for the first time & it was so busy, I dont 'do' crowds so we rarely go to the hotspots, we just walk everywhere, and talk to people, we try & use local cafes where possible, we have been lucky & never come across any bad feeling as visitors. Im from Wales & I know Pembrokeshire has similar issues but not to the extent that Cornwall has. Even after all this time we find lovely out of the way places, and hidden coves that are only accessible by walking, not a carpark in site, We were swimming on Marazion beach just 6 weeks ago, lovely walk over to Penzance from there - only found your channel a few days ago so Im getting my Kernow fix :-) - I think its a victim of the Poldark/Doc Marten effect too, I bet the Cornish Tourist Board were rubbing their hands at the free advertising ;-)

I hope your annoyances are not representative of most of the locals! I'm sure you'd be equally annoyed if there were no tourists at all in Cornwall, I'm sure they bring much welcomed income to the local economy.
You stated yourself that Cornwall in winter is wet, cold & stormy. So no surprise people stay away in winter. Having said that, you mentioned that it was the end of July at the time of filming this and yet people are wrapped up sitting on what I assume is a beach? Looks somewhat like a flooded quarry to me, is this typical summer weather?
Personally, I don't think it's unreasonable for tourists anywhere to expect a certain level of service when visiting holiday destinations and local restaurants etc. A lot of tourism is usually return visitors, so if they continue to experience poor or at best lack lustre service, they will stop coming.
But thank you for sharing your views, I'll be sure to make a wide detour around Cornwall when next on my travels.

The Lizard is rammed with tourists, far more than be handled. Add the terrible local drivers to the terrible tourist drivers, both of who seem to need a guide dog and it is very dangerous on the roads. We love to visit Cornwall. We come to visit different times of the year and enjoy different seasons. We have enjoyed visiting for a Twixmas ie a cheap few nights in a Travelodge or Premier Inn and have enjoyed the festive decorations/harbour lights/churches and snow on the sand! We have stood on Fistral beach and watched the sun set on New Years Eve etc. Try and avoid the main 6 weeks now as no kiddies to think of now. We do like St Ives and St Michaels Mount and Porthcurno etc but we also enjoy exploring places like the tin mines (yeah I do have a video of this on yt) and walking around say Zennor head and finding old stones ie men an tol and exploring places like Chysester Old Village. We once went to see the Merry Maiden Stones on an afternoon of Halloween and there were people coming towards the stones looking like druids. They took their shoes off and hugged the stones etc and we were like right off we go .................... we had touched the stones ourselves though to feel any vibes. This is true! A few weeks back on a very sunny day we swam in the water there by the Mount and it was gorgeous! I do like a Rattler. Dont eat fudge or ice cream now due to being predabetic and manage a pasty but they alwasy give us the gip! We like a Spoons for cheapness - but did indulgein a huge lovely salad in a Marazion Cafe which was lush. I think its difficult as from the Midlands to say shop in a Cornish supermarket and we are in speed mode and the till person is taking their time .... which is normal really just not what we are used to. Sorry for rambling - your video inspired me to ramble!

Good video, good subject. I could go on for hours about these points. As a Rame peninsula East Cornishman I could also go on about how many of my fellow Cornish don't even view me as Cornish, or the place I was born and raised in as Cornwall. We Cornish can be very dismissive and biased of our own folk in this little land too, irrespective of the tourists, very much having a geographical viewpoint in respect of who's Cornish ! I've always maintained, in the heads of many here, Cornwall starts from the River Fowey, some would suggest much further west... Just thought I'd give another view of someone who was born here and has a very long ancestry in this beautiful place, bit of a tangent I know.

As a frequent visitor “and respecter” of Cornwall, one thing that would help both emmets and Cornish would be better and wider roads, yes there are works going on the A30, but I’m talking about the tiny narrow b roads that aren’t anywhere near wide enough and are not suitable for tourism, nor (maybe even more importantly) are the roads conducive with the Cornish drawing in business to create jobs 😮!. This of course will be met with conflicting views from the locals but it’s 2023 and with the world moving forward there also has to be some forward thinking from the locals too, and a little bit of acceptance on their part as in another decade it might be “nothing but” a tourist trap unless money 💰 s bought in to the area from means outside of tourism, doesn’t necessarily mean tearing down paradise to put up a parking lot, just better infrastructure.

I would love to Cycle in Cornwall but many of the small roads are a Death trap with their high hedges and no where to go. With speeding cars belting around corners you are taking one heck of a risk. Would love to see more cycle lanes between towns and villages so people can leave their cars at home.

As a tourist of many decades (I first played Donkey Kong outside the cafe on Lusty Glaze Beach), I would say that my main frustrations with other tourists are: 1) Not everyone loves dogs, let alone yours, as much as you do. I'll send my kid to pee on your windbreak if your dog does it to mine again. 2) Improper disposal of litter and bbqs on beaches. Explains why big cities are litter-strewn sheetholes these days. 3) No understanding of the word dreckly. If you've not come down here for a different pace of life, bugger off up country to Bournemouth. 4) Lack of respect for locals, in all its forms, including those mentioned above. 5) same as your first one. 6) Moaning about the weather - you're still in Britain, so leave Kernow to those of us that love it and sod off back abroad now that the pandemic's over please.

My friend has a lovely house in Millendreath and I've often travelled there from close to London. Looe is very close so have spent many days and nights there over the years, I feel the locals are unfriendly and dismissive of "tourists". although the town itself is nice the people seem to share a narrow-mindedness and ignorant view of anyone not from there. I actually get it, I can see the why they don't respect "outsiders" but I think the place would go down the pan in a big way without tourism. The average age it seems is around 60 and all the young people seem to move on at the earliest chance. I actually live in the capital of Vietnam and interact with tourists everyday as I own a bar and i get the usual questions which becomes annoying. Obviously I'm not a local here but have lived here for 9 years so I have to remind myself that visitors don't see things through experienced eyes.

What irks me is tourists who cannot drive a car on their own side of the road, who then proceed to park in the handsomely-paid-for-by-locals reserved parking spaces, or straight up blocking, or even parking ON private houses' driveways. Do you not understand what a dropped kerb means, folks? Should you really be on the road if you don't?! Some of them will dump their vehicles anywhere they like, without a single thought for the local bloke who has paid for that space (which is clearly marked as private/reserved), who has had to drive to, say a dental appointment, or some other local appointment, during his lunch hour. He then returns to find some tourist who presumably is completely devoid of reading and observational skills, parked in his private space, and obviously cannot find anywhere else to park due to the town being rammed to the rafters with tourists. Now THAT irks me. Selfish and thoughtless tourists who leave their brain at home (if indeed, they ever HAD a brain, some of them!) - those are the ones who we'd prefer not to see again. Sadly, from what I am hearing from people within the hospitality trade, they are a growing, rather than a dying, breed. If that is the future of tourism, Heaven help us. It was bad enough in the 70s, and I've watched the level of consideration from tourists steadily decline since then. I am wondering if it is simply a spoilt and impolite brat parenting issue. Because I know I went to school (in Cornwall) with a few of those types. I can see the same kind of traits in the entitled types of tourists who turn up and use their vehicles to block everyone who is trying to live and work here. I wonder how they would like it if I turned up in, say, Manchester, Rochdale, Birmingham, whatever, and just dumped my car on their private driveway or in their private garage for a week - just abandoned the vehicle and vanished without a trace for a solid week. Do people normally do that all the time up there, or do tourists reserve that behaviour solely for seaside/holiday destinations? I wouldn't be shocked if some places like London have some commuter type parking in their streets - although I think the public transport is better up there. Down here, some people would never get anywhere if they didn't have a car. Bit different like. If you come down, don't steal other people's spaces, park on private land, block private driveways, and don't forget your manners - I have no problem with you visiting if you are a decent human being with a bit of consideration, and have struck up some friendships with tourists. But blimey, do bring your manners and your brain with you please.

Hate the 4x4 drivers that have no idea where the near side of their vehicle is, a road that gets a bus & a lorry through it all winter becomes impassable with a Range Rover Evoque & a push bike, Hate that apparently when you are a tourist you can walk in the middle of the road & scowl at local road users for daring to drive on a road, Hate the litter & lack of respect for the beauty of the environment, Hate being asked to do a deal all the time, it’s not a Marrakesh market it’s cost of living crisis Britain do you try to barter in your local Marks & Sparks? Hate how much property is being given over to the holiday let sector & how many people it’s displaced, Hate how modern parents have zero control of their kids & or an understanding of how their kids should be behaving in certain situations…… I could go on & on Wendall, you’ve probably guessed I work in a tourism based business by the sea 😂 I’m new to your channel & I’m really enjoying it mate 👍🏻

Your 6 points could easily apply to anywhere in the world that has tourists visit. We live in a rural area in Victoria Australia, & we avoid the touristy towns in weekends, public holiday times, & school holidays whatever season they’re in. We’re close to ski fields so Winter is super busy in towns at the base of the ski mountains. We have rivers & lakes for water activities .. fishing, kayaking, water skiing, swimming, camping, cycling, walking (the list goes on); we have neighbouring towns popular for their wines, or local gold rush history; we have a folk festival, Celtic festivals, wine & food festivals. We just stay out of towns when they have a festival on & let the tourist take over & do their thing .. that’s the time the local businesses can earn money to survive the rest if the year
We’re from Melbourne, the second largest city in Australia .. I was born there, & lived the first 67yrs of my life there, my husband came out here from London, with his family, when he was 5 & taught that the UK was home. OK we’re not locals, & will never be seen as that even when we die here .. that seems to be typical of these communities wherever. My husband for the first time is almost calling Australia home, & never wants to leave this place .. nor do I, even though we’re ‘not local’
My parents retired to a popular seaside area here in Victoria, they used to bunker down at home in the school holidays periods .. now I can empathise👍😉😂😂
… oh, & we used to get frustrated as city folk when we took a couple of days away at the wrong time of the week, to a regional area wineries, food venues, & galleries etc were having their 3 or 4 day break when most if the tourists weren’t around. We ourselves worked weekends so midweek was our time to get away. When we moved 5 yrs ago it was a big learning curve to know when you can do things, & I do try to educate visitors if they want to come up & do things early weekdays. And same here as far as lack if hospitality staff, & it became a huge issue during Covid when many rental accommodations were taken up by people escaping city lockdowns. Also locals who relied in rental properties to be available were suffering. Many issues are/& were global

I can''t afford to live there as people working in London commute in from there pushing up house prices to insanely unaffordable levels. That's life I suppose. We've been visiting Cornwall for many years and the locals are generally really patient and friendly. Your comments are quite harsh as the majority of tourists have to visit in the school holidays; our youngest will be 18 next year so at last we will be able to visit early once exam season is over, can't wait. When we only stay for a week, we leave our roof box at home and it is noticeable how much better we are treated on the roads! We visit a lot of Cornish gardens, walk the SW coast path, visit old mine buildings and also get to popular places really early, it's the only way to cope with the crowds. We would never go to St Ives or Newquay in August, it's way too busy. You will probably be regarded as an emmet for a good 20 years yet! Loving the videos and good to see you back in beautiful Cornwall.

Dang. I live in Indiana and I like to go up to Michigan.....mainly for Lake Michigan and its beaches....but I also go for the dispensaries and zoos and other things. I would imagine that "tourists in Cornwall" would be at the same scale. I get it. "Ooooh....cornwall. So many things to see!" Right?
Or not. Cornwall has very little to offer in terms of what the rest of Europe does. Why be so snooty?
In my area of Indiana we get tourists who come to see the Amish people. Big freaking whoop. They ride stinky horses, they smell like a farm and they live like it was 200 years ago. People always want to see abnormal or unusual things. Its not a reason to hate anything. Be grateful that it takes so little to get tourists there.
Silver Beach is my beach around here that I go to. In St. Joe, Michigan. Current water temp is a chilly 72 degrees. Yes. Fahrenheit. Today Pendower beach was at 62 degrees. Again, Fahrenheit. Take your ice water and shove it, and complain about the tourists some more.

My kids go to a school very close to St Michaels mount, and the amount of exposure they have at a young age as to the damage that tourists cause to our beaches is very justified. Even if a bin is full, they throw it on the floor next to it!!! They can’t understand that it’s littering!! Take it home!!! (Rant over) 😂
