I can't stand that AI narration , it will mispronounce a name and keep doing it , listened to one yesterday and the voice keep saying Warner BROS instead of Warner Brothers , drove me crazy .
Love Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday in "Tombstone", don't know how accurate it is historically, but it is the image I always think of when thinking of him.
My father had TB at the age of 19 his doctor told him go west it will help , and it did , but he still ended up in a TB sanatorium at age 23 in Montana . Culture shock for a kid from Alabama .
Doc Holliday, for all his faults of the time he lived in, is still one of my fav folklore badasses. As an immigrant to the country, the romanticized version of Doc, is a big inspiration for me. I love America!
Before it was discovered that Tuberculosis was caused by a bacterium many people believed that it ran in families, probably because of how long the disease can lie dormant after infection. You could be infected for years and not know it. Even after the true cause was discovered it was still tragically easy for family members living in close quarters to spread it to each other. Tuberculosis can affect any organ in the body but active pulmonary tuberculosis is the only kind that’s contagious, although before pasteurization there was a chance of contracting bovine tuberculosis from drinking infected milk (seriously, don’t drink raw milk unless you reeeeeeally trust the person you’re buying it from)
I mean, with everything, it takes time to settle into a role too. I'm just starting to find my groove...now, if my allergies could make recording less difficult, that'd be awesome.
Doc was one of the most legendary gunslingers in the old west. His involvement in the famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, alongside the Earp brothers, cemented his reputation as a formidable gunfighter.
I don't get much say in it, but I'm pretty well against AI. The editors were using it for a bit, but I think they've respected our wish for it not to be used in these videos.

Who knew, but Rudabaugh was actually more of the classic outlaw, that so many movies show. Rudabaugh worked with Bat Masterson, in a posse, while he’d also be on the other end of them as well. Survived Billy the Kid’s gang, and seemed to evade capture, until he finally went to Mexico.
"Doc Holliday Days" are held yearly in Holliday's birthplace of Griffin, Georgia. Valdosta, Georgia held a Doc Holliday look-alike contest in January 2010, to coincide with its sesquicentennial celebration. Tombstone, Arizona also holds an annual Doc Holli-Days, which started in 2017 and celebrates the gunfighter-dentist on the 2nd weekend of August each year. Events include gunfights, a parade, and a Doc Holliday look-alike contest. Val Kilmer, who played Doc in 1993's Tombstone, was the grand marshal in 2017 and Dennis Quaid, who played Doc in 1994's Wyatt Earp, was the grand marshal in 2018.
Wow. So much of his life was spent in Colorado. Now I need to go to Leadville and Glenwood Springs just to see what, if any, historical markers might be in those towns.
Thanks. I'm not sure if there are any others recorded at that angle. I think we pushed the others out. I wasn't sure how this would look, but I'm pleased with it now.
From his sallow, pasty skin, it looks as though he has not spent much time outside in his life. Simon Whistler is the host of that many channels now, I don't know how he finds the time to sleep or anything else other that host umpteen channels on TH-cam.

Thank you for this information. So the movie TOMBSTONE really wasn't too far fetched? I loved that this video was not AI. Tombstone is one of my all time favorite movies. Thank you again for a look into the past. 😊
fort griffin is just right down the road about 30 mins from Breckenridge tx the fort its basically in Albany tx its a state park now i am from and live in Abilene Tx which is 30 mins west of Albany
Doc didn't go west to die. If he wanted to die, he would have stayed home with family. He didn't go west to live, there was no cure for consumption. It took his mother and step brother's lives, so he knew it was a death sentence. The climate in Texas wasn't different than Georgia. So why did he go west? The water hole shooting incident (which was just one of Doc's many troubles in GA) was likely the cause. Earp/Holliday defenders will tell you he didn't shoot anyone. Yet, simultaneously cannot explain to you the legitimate reason why Doc went west. Likely there were fatalities from that shooting. But because the victims were black and Holliday came from a respected, prominent family, some strings were pulled. But he had to be sent away for his safety from the the authorities. He kept in touch with his uncle John, cousins Robert and Mattie. But there was no love there between him amd his father Henry. Throughout the frontier, Doc's temper continued. He was a loyal friend to the Earps, because family was something important to Doc and he saw the Earps as a family unit that he belonged to or wanted to. But, when solo, his shootings were do to his temper, with a couple of exceptions of self defense. Before he had a reputation, he was an easy target for bullying die to his size. And he was bullied as a child because of his cleft palate. With the loss of his mother, the life he knew in the south gone from the war, the resentment h le had to his father and his own personal death sentence, he had a lot of anger built up inside him. He didn't just kill Tom McLaury in the street fight in Tombstone. He killed Ed Bailey in Texas with a knife, and may well have killed someone else with the same weapon. He shot and killed Mike Gordon. And killed more men in Tombstone, very likely Old man Clanton himself. Forensic analysis as well as corroborating eyewitness testimony suggests he fired the fatal shot into the back of Frank McLaury's head as well as shooting Billy Clanton in the street fight. From a tactical standpoint, Doc was in the best position to inflict the most damage in that battle based on his position throughout the fight. He shot up the Oriental Saloon a year before the big gunfight, hitting Joyce and a bartender named Parker. He had two shootings in Texas, wounding and nearly killing one man. He was in a shooting in Colorado, wounding and nearly killing Bill Allen. And if that wadnt enough, Milt Joyce himself died of consumption years later, perhaps making him another victim of Doc's. Doc is a mixed bag. Good qualities and bad. Even Virgil who wasn't as close to Doc as Wyatt and Morgan said that he was always the first time saddle up or lend a helping hand when trouble was brewing. His last words were not this is funny. His last word was "water", being thirsty. He was in a coma for nearly two weeks before succumbing to consumption amd dying. He did not like shotguns. And did not carry one with him. The recoil was too powerful and he was much quicker with a blade or a small caliber pistol. On the day of the streetfighter, when informed of Ike's actions and the fact that others were in town with Ike, he requested a shotgun from Virgil because he was potentially facing overwhelming odds. And the reason for Virgil bringing Doc along with them, and refusing help from the citizens safety committee, was because Virgil wanted Doc and Ike to settle their differences, rather than bringing everyone else in town into the matter. He was told to stay back by Virgil while he worked to disarm the Clantons and Mclaurys. The problem was they were standing in Doc's sideboard which he percieved as a clear, personal threat. And that anger got the best of him again, suggesting to them to make a fight, while pulling back the hammers of the shotgun. For the cowboys, it was a matter of self defense to make a move for their guns. As they say, the rest is history.
Ohhhh so that's why when Doc asks Ed , "Are we cross?" In Tombstone, Ed looks so scared. I will choose to believe that much research was done for the script.
Hi there, just stumbled upon your video, I’m obsessed with Tombstone movie & really appreciated your cadence as well as your level of detail. The only comment I’d like to make is in reference to the “swimming hole incident” - I wasn’t sure if your being sarcastic but I don’t know how trustworthy Doc’s uncle is. He stands everything to gain by lying to cover for Doc. & it would be very easy for a bunch of white men who owned property to say whatever they wanted especially since the victims were Black. I mean especially in those times, whole Black neighborhoods were wiped out and there are no “records” of it besides stories passed down from victims family member. So just saying just because there is no record of it definitely doesn’t mean it didn’t happen 😅
But it didn't happen. Doc's own family members have confirmed that all he did was shoot over their heads, and they ran off. The killing story was just some nonsense made up by Bat Masterson, or by his writer.
I do. I cover storytelling topics and do video essays in a bunch of different genres. just hired a video editor to handle those heavier projects because I've got a bunch of books I need to get done...and I'd like to try my hand at directing short horror films in the future. www.youtube.com/@storyrant
Not really sure where Doc is buried but I did the awful climb up to Linwood cemetery to view his marker. I’ve read ground was frozen at time of his death or that he’s buried at bottom of hill, unmarked. Then I read he’s buried back in Georgia.
I don't think you're allowed to say "I've never been into westerns" when you took your signoff from a show that makes it very clear that it's a futuristic western in space.
Sorry, that is incorrect. Huckle never meant anything to do with a casket, and "huckle bearer" never even existed when the movie was filmed in 93, much less in the 1800's. It's complete made up nonsense. No historical evidence for it whatsoever. Plus, we know for absolute certain it's "I'm your huckleberry" Script says it. Val Kilmer confirms that's what he said. When he heard about this 'bearer' nonsense, he refuted it, saying he did NOT say 'bearer'. He wrote about it in his book, titled "I'm Your Huckleberry: A Memoir" Script is based partially on a 1929 book "Tombstone: An Iliad of the Southwest" In the book, Doc says to Ringo "I'm your huckleberry Ringo. That's just my game". Like he does in the movie. From an almost 100 year old book.
What happened to Simon? I haven’t watched this channel in years, and come back to all these random people. I noticed the videos not even pushing 100k views. Why did this channel die?
I dont get it, he went on practicing dentistry WHILE having TB, AND got in q long term relatiomshio with a woman as well, did these ppl not value their lives? Surely they knew how TB spread??
I enjoyed the story. My only complaint are that two photos used have been proven not be him. The photo used twice in the story to portray Doc as a dentist has been thoroughly debunked. Doc is not in that photo. In addition, the photo used on the cover of the story is not Doc either. Doc was never as handsome or as healthy looking as that man. That photo has also been proven to be someone else. It has proven to be another man who lived in Tombstone around the same time as Doc. John Escapule was his name.
