I am white and saw the movie Black Belt Jones as a kid. Jim Kelly became my hero and got into martial arts to be like him. All other kids were fans of the usual action stars, but me Jim Kelly was the MAN.
What irks me about Jim Kelly is that it's public knowledge that he was an intelligent man and good fighter, knew Bruce Lee extremely well, and when he says that Bruce Lee was the real deal, people still say that Kelly did not know what he was talking about. Their main argument is that Kelly was only a point fighter and doesn't count. There is just so much evidence out there proving that he was an accomplished martial artist, and knew Bruce on an intimate level, and people still say that Bruce was a fake. Jim Kelly would have known if Bruce was a fake, but until the day he died, he maintained that Bruce Lee was totally legitimate as a fighter. With all the evidence out there proving that Kelly knew his stuff, it's like saying that TH-cam doesn't have any videos, or that William Shatner never starred in Star Trek. I just don't get how people can just ignore all that evidence out there that Kelly was the real deal, knew Bruce Lee, knew what he could do, and people still deny it.
Jim Kelly seemed like a great guy. I thought it was pretty humorous on how he criticized his own acting in Enter the Dragon before he excelled more in acting. A great Martial Artist..Pure class.
After Bruce Lee , My fav martial artist movies Sonny Chiba (street fighter) and Jim Kelly ( blackbelt Jones). My favorite quote since I was a kid from the late great Jim Kelly” man you come out from a comic book “
Jim should have been in the Climatic Fighting Screens alongside Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon. Great All Time Movie, but if that had occurred the Movie would have been so much Greater 👊🏾💥
Jim said in a interview, in the original script; it was suppose to be him & Bruce fighting side by side at the end. But because John Saxon agent complained about him having more acting experience than Jim, they changed up the script, and this was Jim's first film 🎥 🎞 and Jim didn't mind so that is the film we saw. Imagine if we got the original script & film, Enter The Dragon 🐉 would have been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree, but personally feel that Bruce couldn’t stand a competition. Jim Kelly had a screen presence that rival Bruce as far as charisma is concern. He also had an engaging personality that came across very well on screen very natural. He was the proverbial, tall, dark and handsome star the camera loved his face, and had a six pack that rival Bruce Lee. I really don’t think Bruce could stand it that he wasn’t the center of attention.
@@terrenceball6439 I heard that too. You can’t fault John Saxon‘s agent for doing that after all the man was the season actor. He had more screen time and eclipse him, considering his status as an actor would’ve been a waste for him not to mention a demotion of sorts. Jim Kelly was brand spanking new in comparison to John and it would’ve been a major slap for them to choose him over Saxon. Having said that we had to endure some of the most boring fights ever, especially the courtyard fight, which Saxon character didn’t have the skill set to survive that of course he’s gonna kick everybody in the groin that’s his go to technique
1:53 I always felt sorry for the brother on the receiving end of that kick. Damn, I've been watching that scene for 50 years, and I still hurt when watching him get hit.
He was the first black man I saw on TV doing martial arts and I'm 54 she ain't lying Brice Lee the star but for the little black boys Jim Kelly was the inspiration
It was because of Jim Kelly & Bruce Lee I got interested in karate when I was 13..now 63…they were my #1 ~ dynamite on & off screen~ Handsome GALORE!!! I was crushed when both passed😔🥹I watched BBJ tonite
It’s both commendable and infuriating that Jim Kelly had enough class NOT to blow up the spot on so many of these martial artists who knew Bruce back in the day and now that he’s dead wanna sound off on what he was what a real fighter he wasn’t etc. etc. Jim Kelly New, all the guys who got their butts royally kicked by Bruce Lee back in the day and to preserve their reputations. He refused to give up the names and those secrets died with him.
Jim Kelly originally was purpose to be in the film finale of, ENTER THE DRAGON along with Bruce Lee.John Saxon was an originally killed off by Mr.Han.But Saxon's agent readed the script, he started complaining to the producer's and studio executives. That's why the script got flip for Jim Kelly got killed off.I believe it would've awesome to see Jim Kelly and Bruce Lee in the film's climax. But studio executive's at that time would've felt uncomfortable seen an Black man and Chinese man fighting side by side.
Wait yall forgetting Kareem he was the black guy to get on big screen before this guy wasnt he when he fought bruce lee and that shit was in black n white .... This is in color.
Always felt Jim Kelly’s character was killed off because Bruce Lee and the producers saw the potential in his charisma equaling Bruce Lee🎉 in the movie that was a little too much star power and totally eclipse the white character John Saxon, who was boring by comparison and needed something to do. I understand the Hollywood politics.
Originally Jim Kelly was suppose to survive and John Saxon to be killed, but Saxon was a veteran star so it was decided by the urging of his agent that Kelly die instead.
So Greatly Inspiring Of Jim Kelly !!!!

One of kind
His trade mark was the unique and nice afro
1:53 I always felt sorry for the brother on the receiving end of that kick. Damn, I've been watching that scene for 50 years, and I still hurt when watching him get hit.
Jim Kelly had the best afro in the business.....after Pamela Grier. *Rise In Power,* brother.
He was the first black man I saw on TV doing martial arts and I'm 54 she ain't lying Brice Lee the star but for the little black boys Jim Kelly was the inspiration
Best Looking black man

Rip JK. I watch Enter the Dragon every year because of you Jim and Bruce Lee.” I want off your Island Mr Hand man”
What is his karate style? He has talent like Bruce Lee. Awesome and cute looking.
His styles were Shorin-ryu/Okinawan karate, as per Wikipedia.

Yeah, but Game of Death came out on screen in 1978, well after Bruce Lee passing. Even though that footage was filmed in 1972!
💫💫⭐️👏🏽

I would love to see Jim The Dragon Kelly vs muhammad ali in a no holds barred / no rules
Always like Jim Kelly. It would have been great if he didn't have to die in enter the dragon.
