Time to get on and sow some more seeds, but I am still being careful, we have frosts forecast this week but these brassicas will fare ok, still to early to be sowing warmer weather things like Tomatoes.
I have now taken the plunge and started up a Patreon space here / greensideup This gives a little more Green Side Up content to those who wish to help, support or give back to me. It will be slightly different to the content here on my channel in that it will be an informal style with a warts and all approach, its me, but from a different angle.
If you are enjoying my content, you can help me by buying me a packet of seeds. ko-fi.com/gree...
    Contact me - steve.greensideup@gmail.com
Every Monday night at 7pm I take part in a LIVE show on the Potty MOuth Garden Club here / @pottymouthgardenclub
Links to products I use, that I have bought and can recommend. If you click one of these links and buy the same thing as me, you pay EXACTLY the same as me, but I earn a small commission from Amazon. Amazon pays this, not you! We are talking pennies here not pounds and I use it more as a shop window,so you can see the product. I always also advise you "shop around" first to find the best price you can.

I recently sowed cosmos, marigolds, dahlias, lobelia, parsnips, celery, broccoli, spinach and Kale. Most have germinated, I sowed them into cell trays in my unheated greenhouse. I have been putting lids or garden fleece over them this week. But all look like they are doing well. I'm in Essex, so not as cold as most.

I love the idea of a nursery bed. I may just have to add one to my space.

Thank you for yet another informative video, 👍 I have sown 8 different seeds today, lemon basil, sweet basil, dill, coriander, bulb fennel, celeriac, rainbow chard and kabelo nero but on a bedroom windowsill and hoping for better weather in a few weeks time when they are ready to go outdoors ♥

Much the same for myself in polytunnel today Steve leeks/carrots/cauliflower/cabbage/lettuce/peas and Red Holland Scallions when harvesting them i only cut the green get three crops then let them grow away and they form a lovely pickling bulb at end of season so brilliant four harvests from each bunch Glad you mentioned Brussel Sprouts i will get them sowed on next visit to plot

Quick question: If you are going to transplant the brassicas from the bed to elsewhere why not just sow in to tray modules like before? Curious!

    • @GreenSideUp
      @GreenSideUp  ปีที่แล้ว +7

Hi Kevin, there are a few reasons really why I do it. 1. Tradition, this is how I started gardening and how we started plants as it was an easy controlled thing to do, we had some seed trays bu the availability of module trays was just not there. 2. It saves on bench space, having them growing in the ground saves having more trays on the greenhouse bench. 3. It saves on compost, sure you could use just soil in module trays, but they would have to be strong modules to take that weight. 4 I grow young plants for a few people in the village, this allows me to grow many plants in one controlled area. .. .. Steve...🙂

It’s amazing the number of growers who started growing on their grandparents allotments.

I’ve never seen things done like this, only new to gardening , really only started last year and still learning lots. Lots and lots to learn. Maybe you never stop with gardening but like baking. ??
It’s good to know this. I may have to start some off like this, I don’t have a tunnel but I do have cloche fleece and a sheet of plastic i can lay over. But only for germination purposes as it’s not a frame etc yet. Plans for it to be.
I have chard, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots so I could start them off later this week.
    Thanks for the idea.

What variety of sprouts are you sowing Steve? I’ve put some Boris F1 in a cold greenhouse but will sow some more later in the year ,, I must up my game with salad leaves,, they’re so easy to just tick over in the winter ,, also like the primo white cabbages but have sown some Filderkraut which do a similar job ,, best wishes, Lisa

Thanks for the great tips, Steve! Onion question, please. I did the boxing day sow and nothing germinated. After a number of weeks I emptied out the compost and reused it for sowing some old packs of mixed leaf micro greens. Iv got loads of onion come up with the leaves. Do you think they could be from the boxing day sowing? I've pricked them out anyway but on a related note, if they are from the microgreen pack, is there anything other than leek or shallot that looks like an onion seedling?
