Ever since I watched the TFL Tacoma 4WD backfired this morning I cringe seeing it off road. Hopefully those guys discover the issue fast

@TRDJon true BUT they were on stock pizza slicers on slippery rocks and it broke like a dry twig. Sketchy first impression being more than fair about it.

I was having a TFL flashback there for a second. 😳
From what i've read, the recall on the 3rd gen is a voluntary inspection. It doesn't mean 400,000 Tacomas are faulty. They will inspect if, if it needs replacing, they will replace it. But the 4th Gen Tacoma is already off to a bad start compared to the 3rd gen.

You would think the trd “off road” would have a bit beefier skid plates. Those are a little disappointing. Great to see your truck in action though! Looks good and the crawl control seems to work well

The skid plates are more than a little disappointing. More like rain and gravel shields.

3rd gen..... OTT Tune.. 285s.. OME BP51 setup... No issue gaining speed.... No issues with trans "searching" for gears..
OME BP51 are amazing.
I got OTT in my 23’ manual and I can’t really even believe the difference.
Make sure he inspects the transfer case and front differential out so it doesn’t explode while off roading.
And with the 400,000 recall on the 22s & 23s, Toyota is not having a good month.

For an off road truck you would think they would include the same size spare tire. I’ve owned all generations (minus 4th).
They used to offer same tire and wheel as a spare. They they changed to only same tire. Now even the tire is not the same. I won’t even go into the plastic skid plate.

For sure man! I needed a better mic. It was too windy
An intake would do that, so would a larger or unbaffled turbo inlet. Most manufacturers find ways to quiet turbochargers down. My buddy has a Golf GTI, with a freer-flowing intake an larger diameter inlet without any muffling, you'd think it has a massive turbo on it! The TRD Pros will come with a TRD intake, which is going to be available as an accessory for the Tacoma in the coming months I presume. That should give you a bit more noise.

16 gallons after emergency 2 gallons times avg 22 miles per gallon in decent weight and speed conditions is 352. so if you aren't dogging it everywhere or have a bunch of shit in the back and 4 people inside, then it should get 350. it drives a lot nicer than the older ones and that's why i think it will work out better. it might not sound as good, but the technology makes up for it.

Im in the talks now to get a TRD-OFF ROAD Premium package, I think the hybrids will cost to much and sure the extra power is nice. Just want to have a every day truck and make sure I feel secure in my ride

I think the OEM wheels would look good if they were stripped refinished machined & sent off to OMF performance to get beadlocked. That would be one unique OEM+ build

Since diameter is the limiting dimension for the spare, Toyota could have put a real full size spare under there. Just penny pinching.

I have to agree with the annoying cut out remote start, they went over board for safety (like their Tundra Tow Hook Decision - FAIL!) lol Too bad Toyota does not have 1990s Chrysler Executives working there, they would have certainly put the Tundra Motor in this new bad boy!!! Those are tie down hooks for shipping and they will bend or break. Try to use both at the same time for tough pulls.
They can be used for recovery.
A lot to like about the new Tacoma but I'm a little disappointed that they are coming with a convenience spare and not a real full size. Also, they should do better than those flimsy skid plates on the TRD Off Road.

It was already a good idea to get five wheels and tires when you upgrade. Now, especially if you offroad (as you just proved you're gonna), it is a requirement to get a real spare.

The first the TFL truck breaks your truck gets stuck. Maybe the new Tacoma isn't as good as everybody thinks it is. I think they cheapened it so you'd have to get the TRD pro or the trail. Hunter.
🤦🏻♂️ bro I show how we got stuck. Totally our error and also trying not to to scratch the truck on the trees around it so we attacked the trail at a weird angle. Not the trucks fault lol

I want that truck! But I need finance rates to become more reasonable before I take the plunge. If you’ve got time here’s 2 things I’d like to see. Set your seat to an “ok-ish” driving position and then sit in the back seat. I need to carpool now n then. Show how the back seats can fold up or down or whatever so I can see if my muddy dog can get in the back and it’s still ok to use for a carpool the next day. If you have time? Thanks

It has some purple in it. I noticed it under the shop lights at the dealership when I got my TRD Pro Runner. This color is just beautiful on these trucks!
Kinda cool how they've come full circle with the small displacement 4 cylinder like the first trucks, before they were even called Tacoma's. I'm actually dropping a spanking new 22re into a 1990 single cab 4x4 right now. Hopefully these new ones have the same reliability now that they seem to have solved the power problems.

@@TRDJonagreed. Never left me stranded. Even when the head gasket popped it still limped home. Once I get it broken in I'll be slapping an LC Engineering supercharger on it. Gotta do something. I'm spoiled by my 5th Gen 4runner now.😂

After seeing this video and expedition overland makes me wonder how the heck did TFL broke their tacoma. The obstacle that they were on didnt even look that bad.
Not sure how strong the brake system is but if it grabbed the rotor hard then the change in momentum could have overloaded something.
Exactly. I think it was trying to find traction longer than we saw in the video (edit it down so it’s not repetitive) but that could have been it due to constant search for traction with abs going

They look decent and honestly aren’t loud on the highway. Tbh the way we attacked the trail and not trying to scratch the truck made us get stuck ultimately

Exactly. And it broke with a sketchy level of ease. Stock tires, slippery rocks and it STILL broke. Imagine 35s and dry rock. No chance it'll survive that.
If the 35s were properly aired down for that terrain I’m sure it will be fine.

In all fairness we didn’t see how long they were revving it for trying to get traction. Which everyone who offroads knows that’s horrible for CVs and diffs in modern vehicles since it’s constantly trying to grab for traction

Do you like living in Florida? I had a choice between Florida and Minnesota---ended up in Minnesota due to the lower crime rate and no gator. Hate it here in Minnesota, hopefully my next location is Oregon or Washington.
I will never live in the snow. Depends on where you live in FL. Most areas have low crime.
