Anyone who has seen Floor Jansen sing and also seen any interview of her cannot nothing but love her. She is such a humble and lovely person who is also a world class singer. It is almost ridiculous who good of a person she is in every aspect... Tuomas must agree because he said in an interview that he will end the band if Floor ever leaves.
He said the same many years ago "without Tarja there's no Nightwish"... But after his inmature act he said "those are my lyrics, my songs, my band" and then came Anette... If Floor leaves in the same situation that Tarja and Annette, then no one will keep this lie "Tarja was a diva and very ambicious for money" haha

So she would have been gone anyways, they just did not want to work with someone who's heart was not in it anymore. Anette had a ridiculous tantrum for others filling in for her when sick. Ok, they should have informed her but they had one hour to make right by the fans and they did which was absolutely the right choice. That next day blog post by her was absolutely ridiculous and I can't see how the band could have gone on with her after that. I wouldn't have. So neither of the previous singers were just dropped out for no fault of their own.

I don't believe that ego gets in the way with the boys, not then, and not now; that's not what Nightwish is about. I think they would not like drama, so on both occasions it would have been very difficult for all of them.
Back story time.......lol Another country contacted Nightwish's label to ask Tuomas to write a song for the upcoming solar eclipse. He turned them down, but his label really pushed it. So he wrote this. He got upset because they also required it to be so long among other things. He did not like the fact that they thought a songwriter could just write a song on demand. He said he would never do it again. The good thing is we got this beautiful song out of it......... :-) If I missed anything someone from the army will come along and fill you in....... :-) Her parents were in the audience that night....... Those cruises are over in Europe. I don't know if they did or will do anymore. I talked to someone who went to school with Floor and was on the last tour with them. He said she is so nice, down to earth and believe it or not shy. Have you guys watched the videos from that Beste Zangers 2019 from over in Germany. She sings songs from the other singers on the show. Stan you would really love the first one!!!!!!!

When you guys ask if "Sleeping sun" like time when sun do not rise, answer is yes. It is called "Kaamos" time and in Northern Finland sun is "Sleeping" and in most northern point sun is down 51 days....But hey, no problem, at summer sun is shining time all the time, no nights...so average is quite perfect. Also, when asking about Nightwish cruise, that was just that one cruise but never knows, maybe we will have other one. Full concert was on´route to Stockholm,Sweden from Turku, Finland and on return there was "Nightwish goes acoustic". I have been a nightwish fan for a very long time. I personally love the official video they did back with the original release of this song. Watch it sometime. May give you more insight into the song.
Nightwish Cruise - Every Finn knows the infamous cruises to Tallinn or Stockholm. Lots of drunken people, crappy buffet food and even worse house bands performing evergreen tangos to the seniors. Luckily sometimes there are a few good exceptions to the formula and these nights were one of those. In last September Nightwish announced that they will be doing two concerts on the cruise ship from Turku to Stockholm. Both nights were sold out really fast but luckily we got a cabin for the second night. The First Night - it still was awesome, Second Night - The main event for the second day was an acoustic gig by Marco Hietala and Troy Donockley- After that, the cruise was almost over. I’m really glad I got to be a part of this fantastic trip. It’s been a while since Nightwish has played on a smaller stage in Finland. It was a refreshing change compared to the big outdoor stadium gigs (not that there’s anything wrong with those). The band performed perfectly!

Yes, we have way less daylight ruing the Winter, in the south something like 5 hours of greyishness. Lapland is basically above the Arctic Circle , so for a month or two during the Winter there is no daylight. Ever. And then in the Summertime the Sun doesn't set at all. In the south we get like 4-5 hours of greyish night and daylight for the rest of the day during the summer months. And yep, that concert was just wonderful!
From this same concert in Tampere, there is another soft, slow song, The Islander. Worth a reaction too, to see Floor in a supporting role. It is Marco's song, mostly.
She turned and walked away with a 'Floorish'. The song is about a solar eclipse. And what metaphors you get from a romantic slow song. It might have been darker during another song - because the evening is getting darker, and your other song was later in the list. Like the Greatest Show on the Earth ending this concert. Besides it's overcast - so it varies momentarily.

Floor made a comment on the show Beste Zangers (a show in the Netherlands where every participating singer will be put in the limelight and the others will sing songs in honor of them) that she felt more comfortable in front of a huge audience than a small one, maybe because it's not as personal and she seems to be a bit shy and introverted when not on stage. As all the other people here, I reckon you should react to the two songs she has done for Beste Zangers: Vilja Lied (an aria from an operetta) and Mama (song in Dutch, very heartfelt). Oh yeah, and Valley of the Queens, from Ayreon Universe DVD, alongside Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio. I'm sure Stan will love that one very much!

All I had to do was watch your faces while she was singing to tell how it affected you. With Floor, you seldom need to know what the song is about to feel it. How many times have I watched a reaction while the person reacting sat in stunned silence while she sang. Your silence says it all.
Nightwish was great before with the other singers, but after Floor joined they are above all. Floor mesmerizes and hypnotizes the masses with her voice, looks and powerful stage presence.
As much as I LOVE Floor, for this song I will always love the Tarja version better. It is the song that hooked me to Nightwish all those (too many) years ago. Maybe also because this song is about the '99 Eclipse that happened on my birthday :)

Sleeping Sun was composed to honor the solar eclipse in 1999 and it was released just before the eclipse. If I remember correctly, their german record company asked for such a song (good promotional event).
Yeah, as Ann already explained it was a commission for a solar eclipse visible in Europe in '99 iirc. Tuomas might have hated writing a song according to certain restrictions, but it ended up being one of their most beautiful ones. Even Steve Harris of Iron Maiden has named it among the most beautiful songs he has ever heard. As a fun bit of trivia: there are also two different versions of the song, as well as two different music videos, because Tarja was not happy with her original performance and wanted to rerecord it in 2005. Personally I disagree with her opinion and think she sounds worse on the new version, but the music video is pretty epic, featuring the guys as different Crusades era soldiers on a battlefield (Tuomas is a Knight Templar, Marco a dying Varangian, Emppu a Teutonic knight etc.)
Very nordic winter song. In the most nordic regions of Scandinavia and Finland the sun doesnt come up at all from mid December to mid January. In the summer it is the other way around. The sun is up in the sky 24/7 for about a month.
Live in Stockholm. In December the sun it´s dark 19h/day. In june the sun bearly comes down under the horison. I use to live far up in Sweden on the other side of a river from Finland, i used to go buy pizza in Finland, just a Walk over the bridge. Up there it`s compleatly dark 24/7 in wintertime and in the summer the sun never goes down.
Don't know if you ever found out what this song referred to...it was the solar eclipse in 1999 that Finland got to see the full eclipse. Tarja also snag the song...and her version is a little different...but still very beautiful!

About this song the record company wanted Tuomas to make a song about solar eclipse to cash in on the actual solar eclipse. He was very annoyed about it but did it anyways. He hates when people tell him what to compose. But the end result was still a fucking masterpiece and a fan favourite because of course it was because it was a composition by Tuomas Holopainen. :D Tuomas has never cared about the money, he only cares about the art. For him money is a secondary issue that comes naturally with great art He might seem a bit arrogant to someone nowadays but at this point of ones career I totally grant that right to him. In the end he is one of the greatest composers of our time. I personally would rate some of his compositions higher than classics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to heaven. But probably he is only fully appreciated when he is dead like van Gogh. Because he is from a small country. You have to consider this song he did not even want to make. Maybe it is time to start appreciating the real artists when they are actually alive?

it is nightime, the concert was at usual concert time, but it was at the time of year when sun doesn't realy go down and the night stays bright

As much as I LOVE Floor, for this song I will always love the Tarja version better. It is the song that hooked me to Nightwish all those (too many) years ago. Maybe also because this song is about the '99 Eclipse that happened on my birthday :)
We were there. It was beautiful. They were wonderful. We have been going for years and years and this show was like the best thing ever. (and your consept of Finland is adorable) new album coming, have to start organizing another group outing 😄
Sleeping Sun was composed to honor the solar eclipse in 1999 and it was released just before the eclipse. If I remember correctly, their german record company asked for such a song (good promotional event).

Yeah, as Ann already explained it was a commission for a solar eclipse visible in Europe in '99 iirc. Tuomas might have hated writing a song according to certain restrictions, but it ended up being one of their most beautiful ones. Even Steve Harris of Iron Maiden has named it among the most beautiful songs he has ever heard.
As a fun bit of trivia: there are also two different versions of the song, as well as two different music videos, because Tarja was not happy with her original performance and wanted to rerecord it in 2005. Personally I disagree with her opinion and think she sounds worse on the new version, but the music video is pretty epic, featuring the guys as different Crusades era soldiers on a battlefield (Tuomas is a Knight Templar, Marco a dying Varangian, Emppu a Teutonic knight etc.)
Very nordic winter song. In the most nordic regions of Scandinavia and Finland the sun doesnt come up at all from mid December to mid January. In the summer it is the other way around. The sun is up in the sky 24/7 for about a month.

Live in Stockholm. In December the sun it´s dark 19h/day. In june the sun bearly comes down under the horison. I use to live far up in Sweden on the other side of a river from Finland, i used to go buy pizza in Finland, just a Walk over the bridge. Up there it`s compleatly dark 24/7 in wintertime and in the summer the sun never goes down.

'Weak Fantasy', 'My Walden', and 'Stargazers' are another songs that you should have to look for at this same concert.

Don't know if you ever found out what this song referred to...it was the solar eclipse in 1999 that Finland got to see the full eclipse. Tarja also snag the song...and her version is a little different...but still very beautiful!

About this song the record company wanted Tuomas to make a song about solar eclipse to cash in on the actual solar eclipse. He was very annoyed about it but did it anyways. He hates when people tell him what to compose. But the end result was still a fucking masterpiece and a fan favourite because of course it was because it was a composition by Tuomas Holopainen. :D Tuomas has never cared about the money, he only cares about the art. For him money is a secondary issue that comes naturally with great art He might seem a bit arrogant to someone nowadays but at this point of ones career I totally grant that right to him. In the end he is one of the greatest composers of our time. I personally would rate some of his compositions higher than classics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to heaven. But probably he is only fully appreciated when he is dead like van Gogh. Because he is from a small country. You have to consider this song he did not even want to make. Maybe it is time to start appreciating the real artists when they are actually alive?

You MUST check out the original singer with the original key of the song and feeling. End of an era show. That will blow your minds away. This song is not at the original level with floor.
For me I think it's better with Floor... Even Tarja is singing in a different key nowadays!

A rare example of a song which Tarja does better. I suggest watching the following. But first, let me recommend this time that Brian not have any coffee beforehand. This is a very slow, plodding, beautiful song. It's like a video of a sloth gracefully moving through a tree played at 1/4 speed...but Brian was nodding along in a mini-bang-your-head fashion as if was Red Hot by Motley Crue. Seriously, you've got to slow down and get into the mood for this thing. Here goes:
