Oh my friend.....MY FRIEND INDEED! When I first sang this hymn at my junior school and something about the song stirred my heart and I would often feel like crying though I never understood why until years later when I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ. Then I understood that it was the story of Our Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit inspired the Samuel Crossman to pen this hymn, so we could be drawn by its words and seek the one who is honoured in it. Thank you Koine for sharing such a beautiful rendition of it! ❤️✝️🕊
How wonderful to hear such a precious old hymn revived in this beautiful way! ...so much better than what passes as 'worship' in many churches today! The Gospel in a song. Thank you
*Love* this version of one of my all time favourite hymns - but PLEASE would you record a full version for this Easter with all seven verses (as in the Wikipedia entry)? It’s such an amazing poem, and we’re missing lines like ‘Heav’n was his throne, but mine the tomb wherein he lay’ - so much more beautiful truth for prayer and worship!
Love this hymn. Would it be okay if we use the audio part of this in our elderly and church worship services here at Community Lutheran WELS in Hawaii?
This is my favourite hymn and done so well. I particularly enjoy the scriptures interspersed through the video. An added dimension to aid worship. Thank you Koine.
I really enjoy your music, Koine! A thought at 1:20: In the Lutheran Service Book, it says "But men made strange, and none The longed-for Christ would know." Why the change in lyrics? It seems to me that no one knew Jesus for who He really is at that time because even His disciples denied that He would die.
Interesting. We used Christian Worship - A Lutheran Hymnal when we arranged this song. The lyrics we use are as printed in that particular hymnal. I'm not sure why the lyrics would be different.
This is one of the greatest songs ever. And you guys did a great job with it. Thank you.

Thanks Gordon. We've got plenty more hymn arrangements on our channel. We've been arranging and recording hymns for over a decade.
What a wonderful presentation of this wonderful hymn. Could go around my head all day! Emotional, longing, grateful, telling - lovely!
Beautiful
Beautiful Lenten song! Adding it to my new playlist. Thank you.
This is one of my favorite Lenten hymns. Koine did a nice job with it.
Thank you Jesus!

The Lutheran Service Book is LCMS. Is your hymnal from WELS? I guess the difference in Synods is the reason. What's your take?
It is a WELS publication. I’m not sure why that line was changed.
