as genius as weeping angels are, being able to hear coilheads and catch glimpses of them moving is so much more terrifying. Weeping angels moreso give off the impression of teleporting rather than actual movement.
Now that you point it out, yeah. You never actually get to see the Weeping Angels / SCP-173 move, giving them the slight feeling of teleportation instead of actual movement. The coilheads are different, their head bobbles when they stop moving and you can physically hear their footsteps quickly approaching, then the sudden stop as the spring bounces around. Giving them actual indication of how fast they are aside from the concrete scraping of 173.
Exactly, its the little things like this that make me respect zeekerss (the dev) so much, there’s so many things he’s tried out in this game that works, and there’s so much other stuff that he’s incorporated into the game and made it better (like the weeping Angel concept)

this is by far the most terrifying set of sounds in the game. It doesn't indicate certain death. It indicates a slow, difficult, painful death involving multiple other monsters
The Coilhead is pure genius in terms of visual and sound design. The sound is unmistakable and allows you to keep track of it as well as fray your nerves. That, and the wobbling of its head upon stopping immediately shows you how they stop and move based on your line of sight. It's such a great example of "show, don't tell."
Always makes me wonder exactly why they stop and start moving based off player sight. They can definitely move if they wanted to while being looked at, you can see them move sometimes, but they seem to just... choose not to.

the coilheads are probably the most creative and freaky "weeping angel" enemy ive seen in a game, the sounds are great, and the way jt sometimes moves even when you're looking adds an element of unpredictably. good shit
The fucked up thing is that you can occasionally get glimpes of them moving normally before they notice you, meaning that they do the whole weeping angel shtick for giggles.
Theres something so funny about such an otherwordly creature being able to be seen before it goes into "hunting mode" where they just skitter about really fast
The freakiest thing about these guys is that when they kill you, they somehow mangle your body and replace your neck with a spring so that you’re like them
The sharp reverb of a spring stopping with motion is actually a genius way of making a traditional jumpscare sound when this thing stops close by to you.
Coilheads as a concept have been done a lot, but it's unique with the sounds they make. Its way more terrifying hearing one coming after you then dying without warning. Makes them seem way more aggressive.
It's actually really impactful that the loudest and most intense part of the sound is at the beginning, and only lasts for a split second. It's more effective in instilling fear into you, since you're anticipating the loud part unconsciously. It also works well as a jumpscare for near-misses.

The creepy thing I found out about these things is that they actually move around the map when they don’t see you, literally having its own normal walk cycle, but will freeze up and play its sick game of red light green light when a player finds them. Not to mention, it’s said in their bestiary that they are highly radioactive, and will even combust into flames when you try cut into them
Honestly I think the coilheads are the scariest version of the weeping angel, SCP 173 style enemy we’ve ever seen. The horrible noise their neck makes at a sudden stop, their quick little footsteps as they run behind you. Horribly terrifying
Once I was playing with randoms and I took myself the job to watch 2 coil heads that were at the entrance of a mansion interior, all my teammates leave due to other monsters but I stay behind because there is still 1 more person inside. And this was scary to witness by the way. A teammate enters the mansion, I never take my eyes off the coilheads, but I watch as both coil heads follow him slowly WHILE I'M ACTIVELY LOOKING AT THEM and kill him, then they turn around towards me and stop moving. People always compare this to the weeping angels but I believe it’s more so related to SCP-173, a lot with other creatures in the game.
