I love when Drew reviews new pens and this is exactly why! Short, sweet, and I feel like I really get a sense of the pen in the hand. And the excitement in the magnetic posting (and Apollo brown!) is so genuine and electric

Drew's excitement when he realized it was a magnetic post made me laugh...out loud even. I have a couple of the original Mirage pens which I like. These seem like next level. The no 6 Schmidt nib sells me although I'm anxious to see what other colors/gods they come up with....Aries red would be a great addition hint hint....

The "column faceted" term is "fluted". Interesting pen! I have a Mirage but these look much nicer.

Im from italy and i love italian craftsmanship (no i dont mean its the best,love japan,germany and all other producers). Got my wife the Zeus since she got a job at a University. I thought its a good start and from there id go higher and higher. Loved all the details so far (3 weeks in,I'll edit comment whatever wife says she likes or doesnt like about it,loved it so far ;) )

Got one of these(the Zeus) from y’all like the week after they released and have been enjoying it ever since. I may have been one of the first people to get it from Goulet(at least the first to leave a review) my biggest problem with it is the cap uncapping in pocket but I fixed that by keeping it in a tiny pen sleeve

Get that man more pillows! I love the brown one. I've been looking for a pen that speaks to me, not too bulky and not too modern, this meets those needs. Something classy and not standard black.
Columns can have "fluting." That is what the channels are called.

Nice. The only magnetic closure cap I have is on my Pineider Avatar UR. It is fun! I was gifted a Visconti Midnight Voyager a few years ago -- so probably don't need a $159 "starter", but I do see how it would be nice to have.

Another outstanding video presentation by Drew and The Goulet Pen Company! Thank you, Drew, for the informative details imparted in a stimulating manner. The Mirage Mythos has a Visconti-branded nib made by Schmidt, correct? In the past, Schmidt did not make their nibs in-house, rather, outsourced to either Bock or JoWo via contract, and in recent years, JoWo. Both manufacturers produce top-performing nibs and feeders, and indeed Schmidt nibs/feeds are top-notch. So...is Schmidt now making their own nibs? The fountain pen community is appreciative of the extra effort in producing Goulet videos!
I've heard that as well - and while I can't confirm what specific factory Schmidt uses to manufacture their nibs, I can confirm that they don't meet the exact production specs as the stock Bock or JoWo nibs, so I consider them effectively independent - just as I do with different pen brands that nay or may not be produced in the same factory. - Drew
I loved the original Mirage and have 3 colors, blue, emerald, and gray...guess that means it's time for Apollo Brown!

I wish Visconti would make a pen that doesn't have magnets. I'm in a business in which I can't bring magnets into the room. So, Visconti has never been an option for me. When Drew started the video, I noticed there wasn't a magnet signet in the cap. Oh boy! I can buy a Visconti, finally. But then it appears the friggin pen has magnets everywhere.
Hmmmm, good point. I'm trying to think of a Visconti that doesn't have any magnets, and can't at the moment. You can look at older models not in production: Ragtime, Van Gogh (old style: one beautiful pen, I might add), etc.
Love your Corgi shirt! Also too bad I found the video 2 weeks later and the Visconti Apollo in medium was sold out. I need to get those notifications turned on.

Do Visconti nibs tend to run large? Just received my Apollo today. Got it in Fine and seems to have the thickness of some of my medium nibs. Wonder if their "Medium" is more of a Broad then? (Or is it a Schmidt thing?)
Other than that curiosity I really enjoy the pen. Not normally a fan of magnatic caps but this one is nice. Oh and that pen pillow...chef's kiss

Thanks for the video, Drew. I’ve got a question, I’ve ordered nearly half a dozen starter pans from you guys, and they are great. Mainly Pilot Metropolitan, Lamy Safari, AL star, Noodler's Ahab, and a Lamy joy...
Can you recommend a step up pen from all of these something that writes smoothly, and feels quality, and as well-suited to somebody who writes fairly quickly?
i’m not sure where to go in my fountain pen journey from here.. Lol
Get a Lamy Studio with a 14k nib, it's a very smooth writer with a bit of bounce and the Studio is a beautiful design. Finally, you can swap nibs easily on the Studio so if you ever needed to swap out the gold for a stub it's easy.

Any nib issues?
The brand is infamous for nibs that will not write, hard starts, etc.
Every Visconti I have ever owned has been a massive disappointment. A few years ago I decided that I would never buy another one.
@@stephenaustin3026 Same here. Although this one has a Schmidt nib made in Germany, and that could be an improvement. ( I generally like Schmidt nibs a lot )

@@culinarykid92 I don't have a Homo Sapiens. I do have a Van Gogh Sunflower, a Saturno Green Lapetus, a Candy Striped Green Celluloid Opera Master, a Rembrandt Special Ops, and a Manhattan Wall Street in Green. The steel nibbed pens are ok. The high-end palladium-nibbed pens write terribly, and are almost impossible to tune well. Hard starts and skipping are major problems.

The Schmidt nib seems like a good move. I have never liked the nib on any of Visconti's more affordable models. Sold them all. I'd consider one that didn't have those problems.
The Bock nibs on Visconti's more affordable models were problematic to be sure (in my experience, ALL Bock nibs are crap) but my gripe with the Rembrandt was the magnetic closure. It failed on me after a couple years. Apparently this is a well-known problem, one that Visconti does nothing to address other than to refer you to the American importer. Repair or replacement of the cap seems to cost an arm and a leg, something I am not willing to shell out considering the initial cost of the pen and the fact that Visconti is well aware of the defect.
In my opinion, an ethically run company that cared about customer satisfaction would replace defective products at their expense together with a gracious apology for having unloaded crap on the market. No such luck...Visconti failed to answer the email inquiry I made a few months back and that's that.
I won't be buying anything Visconti ever again.
I was excited about this pen when it first came out a couple months ago, especially because I love posting regular sized pens. But it should be known, this pen does not post tightly. It barely hangs on magnetically and it rattles. Just fyi ppl
Is it plated with real gold? Also how dark is the blue on Zeus, some videos make it look really vibrant and saturated blue, some look more like a navy blue.
What happened to the Visconti Breeze? Was there something wrong with the pens, or were they just not good enough sellers? I remember really liking the colours.
That said, there are really beautiful too!

A bit bummed that a 150 dollar pen is a steel nib regardless of how well it writes in the video.
Well it is cheap for a Visconti. Their gold nib pens are many hundreds more. Price you pay for Italian bling.

Did Schmidt start making their own nibs? Schmidt did use JoWo and Bock nibs, branded as their own.
Whether or not they're made in the same factories as other nibs, they're produced with different specs than stock JoWo or Bock nibs. - Drew

"Fluted" is the word you're looking for.
Olympus is in Greece while Visconti is Italian so I guess it's Mt. Etna, where they get the volcanic material for their Homo Sapiens.
In that case they should have named them “Jupiter”, “Apollo”, and “Venus”

Just received the Apollo from Goulet. Beautiful pen. BUT. This pen is not a posting pen. Don’t say it is. The nubs inside the cap are stressed if you try to post. You can only secure it by aligning them with the flutes on the barrel. When doing that the magnet is weak and the cap rattles around. More annoying is that it rattled off. Without the posted cap it is a bit short for a larger hand. The cap posting is a design flaw unless it was not intended to post. Shame. Otherwise not a Homo Sapiens of course and not expected to be. But I will keep it as it writes wonderfully.
