I really wish I could afford a Tesla. Should have pulled the trigger when it was 38k for the model 3.

Yeah I should have bit the bullet and bought one then too. I didn’t want to finance so I opted to save for mine. The price increase has me thinking twice about buying one now. Whatever I would save on gas is already eaten up by the premium that’s added to it. Luckily there are other EV options now.
@@jacksonburger2081 I think cost of workers/labor went up. So wages will never go down. So I’m not sure how Tesla will lower the price you are hoping for unless they automate most of the labor
@@ReeLSpirit That is probably part of it. I've heard from a lot of TH-camrs that they are just raising prices because they have so much demand and can't keep up. Therefore by raising prices, less people want to buy. However, they are working on Teslabot (whether that ever becomes a reality🤞), so they might automate the rest of their labor. Maybe?
It's cheaper than buying even a 2nd hand ice car if you factor in the total cost of ownership
What really sold me into buying a MYP was how comfortable I am sitting in the driver seat especially for a long road trip. Usually I have to stretch every time I make a stop in any vehicle. On my recent 6000 mile trip, I was never fatigue nor my body was sore. The bolster and cushion hit my back just right. The basic autopilot kept my hands down at the bottom of the steering wheel which adds to the comfort factor. Normally, I would have hands up on top of the wheel.
Ten year Tesla owner on 4th Tesla (3 MS's and M3) and all electric for 10 years now. Never going back. We charge our two Tesla's off our solar powered home, which also includes two Powerwall batteries to supplement our solar PV system, and have been net zero for last ten years producing more electricity than we use.

What about the cost of the solar panels and batteries. I have so!are panels which work well in the summer but don't do much in the winter. I looked into power walls and was told I needed 2 and the current cost including rebates is $20,000 which I can't see paying out over a reasonable time.
I totally agree about the long travels. I went from Sacramento to San Diego and the stops gave me time to use the bathroom. It's about 2 hours in between charges. Used enhanced autopilot for the first 4 hours or so of driving and then wanted to do some driving myself. The model 3 is fun to drive after all.
One of the big conveniences you didn't mentioned specifically that I like a lot is "single pedal driving". When Autopilot is not in use, it gives you precision control in and out of traffic when merging or changing lanes or successive traffic lights. Love it. Great video. Another Tesla design advantage is a clear roof. Passengers were amazed at the visibility as I drove them through Yellowstone last year. Not just because it's electric, the car's overall design is genius in every other category. IMHO.
Well stated👍. Just received my Model 3 Performance & got it tinted. The expert was like “you don’t need tint on the roof because Tesla has done an excellent job of providing UV protection…”. Details like that and others are really making me appreciate that I have this car (& not just for the 0-60mph ☺️).
They are introducing this feature in ICE cars now
Yup... One-Pedal driving does take a bit to get used to (day or two at most), but it's wonderful. Much better and instant/instinctive control over deceleration, matching the instant & smooth acceleration... there is no slight delay while moving foot from gas to brake, as soon as you start lifting up your foot (often subconsciously sensing danger), you are already slowing down. It's a safety feature, to me.
It's fun, too!- a lot like driving low gear in a manual stick sports car, but with infinite speed/gears and no shifting! Curvy mountain downhills are sooo fun (plus you get battery back w/ regen!)...
Most all EVs have this, but Tesla makes it extremely smooth and seamless... both accel & regen braking... if you have fine control over your foot muscles, it's the smoothest you'll ever drive. But when you do stomp it... wow, there comes that Tesla zoom grin :)
As it stands I alternate from 260 miles to 160 miles weekly due to work. In one month I average about 840 miles and will average 10,080 miles this year (not including road trips).
The only reason I have been hesitant to go long distance is the fuel cost. When I drove a tesla from home to the beach, the 120.00 saved from refueling was spent at a nice restaurant, gifts shop, and other activities for the family. Instead of a huge chunk of change going straight to fuel.. I was stimulating the economy by spending at small businesses. I feel that is a side effect often over looked when going electric.

Tires are hard to gauge because it's all driver based so it's same for both cars.
The warranty on the motor and battery is worrisome, however the average ownership of a fuel car is 7 years according to IHS, so most likely I'll sell or get new one before battery or motor fail.
As for local repair shops it's often very difficult to get work done because of labor charges. Companies large and small will pass off the total labor to work on a vehicle to the customer. So much so according to auto trader 72% of vehicle owners did their own mechanical work in 2015, I'm sure with the current rates and inflation that number has stayed the same. So stimulating the economy is not from mechanical work its base of shopping for clothing, food and other basic necessities.
I understand your hesitancy to go electric, I was there to. This just seems the best idea go8ng forward for my family. Trust my friend I'm a gear head wrenching on the weekends, scrap yard shopping in the mornings are what I live for. Let me know what you think
Fun fact: Tesla recently updated the software to force the physical brakes to be applied occasionally, because the disks were rusting from lack of use!
Very interesting. I was wondering the same with my Chevy Bolt. I almost never use the brakes. I decided to very occasionally do some moderate hard braking to keep the system from atrophying!
Yeah, but autopilot tends to use the physical brakes a lot in stop and go traffic, or run into nearly emergency braking if rolling at high speed and encountering people waiting at a stop light. The car sees them far later than you can. If I'm doing the driving I'm never into the brakes.

I live in an apartment complex on the second floor. I got that splitvolt you recommended and plugged it into my dryer outlet and toss the extension cord off the balcony once a week. Even with having to do that it's still saving time over a gas station lol
You left out depreciation.
The fact that these cars aren't depreciating is one of my primary reasons for reserving one.
I have owned a p85dl since late 2014. I find the wind and tire noise to be about the same as the overall noise of my newer ICE vehicles. Tire wear is higher than most ICE because of the added weight. If you include the amount of CO2 emitted during production it takes quite a while for an ICE to break even Volvo did an extensive study of their XC40 EV versus their XC40 ICE and found with current mix of electric generation it takes 70,000 miles before the ICE emits as much as the EV. Even with all wind power generation it takes 27,000 miles.
I have 2 electric cars and solar panels on my garage roof……………………… everyone's crying about gas but not me... I love all the positives… quiet quiet… And I don't have to go to a smelly gas station... I don't have to wait for the engine to warm up a little I just go... However if we do take a long trip we take the hybrid Chevy Volt...

I’ve had my M3 SR+ for nearly 15 months, ~16,000 miles, and it is doing great. Average 250 miles/week, and that costs me about $7.00/week to charge at home, which is where I do the vast majority of my charging. Road trip charging is more expensive, of course, but still far cheaper compared to fossil fuel costs.

Ryan, I LOVE your videos! We have had 2 used Leafs. Our current one we've had for quite a few years and it is already 9 years old. THIS Saturday, I am FINALLY getting my first Tesla and I CANNOT wait! I have been doing SO much research before picking it up, that I almost feel like I know my new, "Eevee" (that will be her "name"). You and several other TH-camrs have helped me immensely, but I really enjoy your enthusiast, yet calming and techie demeanor. THANK YOU!
I just took a small trip to visit family and we only charged when we needed to stop anyways, which allowed us to save time when compared to our gas vehicle.
Our my lr dm is due sometime between Jan 23 thru Mar 10. It is worth the wait.

I thought my new better-sealed insulated garage door was problematic, and heating up my garage (sun etc)!
Until I realized, it was ALL residual heat from my wife's gas car. Seriously, the entire garage went up multiple degrees! Now she's borrowing my EV... all cool again inside. Shocking amount of waste heat... disgusting

An added maintenance is the brake system since it sees much less use you need to swap/service brake fluid every two years because it Can get gunky in the brake lines from really low uss

True, except you do not necessarily need to charge 20-30 minutes at superchargers during road trips. It depends on multiple factors, and often times 10 to 15 minutes are enough to reach your next destination.

It's always entertaining when people share their opinions without actually owning or experiencing a Tesla. I just got my second Tesla and calculated my TCO for the 45 months on my previous owned Model 3 Long Range (WOW). I did get it during the federal and state incentive combined was $9k. It was cheaper than any new vehicle to own and drivie. Comparing an old ICE that is already paid for is a funny comparison.
Perhaps Tesla owners are unaware of advantage 11: Some EVs have electrical power outlets like the KIA EV6 and Ford F150. This is a huge advantage when the power goes out or when camping. I think Tesla will eventually be forced to adopt this feature.
@@IronChefofPoon yes I see Ford lightning copied some features of cybertruck and there's no other option right now since cybertruck hasn't come out yet but as far as cars are concerned it never is an excuse to buy an inferior EV. If it is a matter of driving from point a and point b any ev will do... If it catches fire and burns your garage and house down there will be no pity, no sympathy since you choose to take the risk buying a non Tesla knowing the non Tesla brand has a horrible reputation whereas Tesla has glowing statistics and raw data and the only horrible reputation it receives is from advertisers, news sources that never get advertisement funds from Tesla, corporate owned magazines such as cons you and me reports, corporate owned environmental agencies, so on and so forth... They never mattered! It is always public opinion and extremely intelligent informed buyers will never be dissuaded by fud trying to tell you red is the new blue so change your outfit color to be the right mindset as the others.
@@IronChefofPoon I'm sure this is fairly east to incorporate in an existing Tesla by a shop that is familiar with Teslas. If not, you can always a tried and true inverter, the same one you use on ICE cars, plugs right into the cigarette lighter socket. And I'm pretty sure Model Y comes with one stock.
@@googadisbeotches9360 Um yeah, I'm not sure if that was satire but I was just trying to make a simple point. That huge battery in an EV can power more than just the car. Tesla currently does not let you take advantage of that battery other than to power the car.
@@googadisbeotches9360 A lot of newer EVs coming out are past those early hurdles and are fairly comparable to Tesla's. Of course, Tesla showed them all EVs could be done, put all their money into R&D, and came out with a fantastic product. All the other manufacturers ignored them until Tesla was literally eating their lunches, then came late to the party by just reverse engineering Tesla's and making inferior copies at first, before finally figuring it out.
I mostly just road trip and don’t have a charger at home, and charging still hasn’t been an issue. My favorite feature is that I can chill in the car with the climate controls on but without having to idle. Also that in stopped traffic I’m not burning fuel.
my gas car has auto start stop so I'm not burning fuel either, but being able to run the AC without having to open the garage door is nice.

For those that live in apartments and condo, there is a newer Culver City, CA based company called Chargie that will install chargers in your condo or apartment garage at no cost. They work with the landlord/HOA and electric company to determine number of chargers and go through regulatory process and installation. The end user subscribes and pays a $15 monthly fee and per kWh fee like at any other charger. Much more convenient than going to a public charger. Just park in your normal space and plug in. One charger may service several parking spaces. This is what my 19 unit condo bldg is doing. We will have 10 chargers averaging one for every 3 parking spots. I can’t wait!

My used 2015 Nissan Leaf is still on its original battery pack. I have experienced most of the EV benefits you mentioned in your video. My next EV in the near future is going to most likely be a used Tesla Modle 3.
With how prices are going if you bought a model 3 new and instantly sold it you can generally make 6k-10k. Insurance and your loan rate are also generally lower with a new car so I do wish you good luck on finding a used one within a decent price range. That's just been my experience though. I was going to buy a used one, but then they were more expensive used with low milage than new so I ended up getting a new Model 3 LR. 0 regrets the car is stupid fast and generally fun to drive!

As others mentioned, it is more cost effective right now to buy a new Tesla instead of used. I was in the market a couple weeks ago for a Tesla M3 LR AWD and everything I found used was 1-3 years old with 20-30K miles for upper $50K to low $60K. I ordered brand new M3 LR AWD for $56K (before price jump) and have a scheduled delivery window of 9/16-10/26. A local dealer has a used 2021 M3 SR+ RWD with 20K miles listed for $58K! You can buy a new 2022 M3 SR RWD for $47K. IMO it is well worth the 3 month wait to get a new one in vs buying used right now.

Insofar as charging convenience: in the worst case scenario when home recharging isn't available, it's like a gas car - having to make a special trip/stop to wait and recharge. Sure, the dwell time is a bit longer, but it takes time out of your day just the same.

Week before last my wife and I drove my 2022 Model S from Boston to Orlando and back. It was incredibly easy to find chargers on such a main road and only 5-6 stops of 15-25 minutes each in each direction (2-3 per day). Agree that autopilot and adaptive cruise were a great help to reduce stress. Any EV with 250 miles range makes road trips feasible, although friends with non-Tesla's report charging times that are at least double.

Would the under storage area in the back be good for spare water for drinking like if you got stalled in the summer in the desert? Or is it too hot?
How about the best way to reduce the effect of the sun on a parked car? I am in Las Vegas and would love to know a good way to shield the interior from the sun as in the summer, it's brutal! Shade, screen, tinting, what's the way to go? Also some way to enhance the rear taillight as too many rear end accidents!

Love your videos! Have you considered getting a Tesla solar roof for your home? That way you could charge your cars and power your home basically for free? Just curious on your thoughts about those!
Any solar will do.. yes, it is amazing feeling to realize you are refueling your car, right off your roof. Free. (My solar paid for itself in 5-7 yrs, with net metering and power fo rthe house, plus car gas cost savings)... and will continue saving $1-2k+ per year, for the next 25years!!
may be you miss out NO oil stains on your driveway. and shorter time to check the car before long road trip
being able to carry items that need the boot to be open. and so not get the smell of the tailpipe gases coming into the car while you drive
My new 2022 M3 LR definitely has a hum when parked. If I open the app or open the door it starts humming.

Even at a Tesla showroom they will use the "buying online" app, so no difference and the price is the same. But the showrooms are good to see the car, get questions answered, or take a no pressure test drive.

We have a 2021 Model Y and have ordered a New 2022 Model Y with 4680 battery interested to find out the range... Do not have a CLUE as of this date .Hope over 450 miles...but we will see

you can listen to the sound system in a closed garage in a gas car just don't turn on the engine. The main downside is overtime your battery becomes less, leading to less range and slower acceleration and then you have to replace the battery out of warranty which can cost $15k or more. with the new 4680 cells expect this to get even more expensive. road tripping becomes more of an issue as your battery ages and loses range.
not with the gas car A/C or heater running in the garage :) (My house doesn't have A/C, so on very hot days I've had to literally Netflix and Chill in my EV in garage!)
Tesla and other battery degradation is minimal, maybe 10% after 10yrs, many 400k+ miles (older Model S/X!) and still 85%+; model 3/Y are even better battery tech. The 4680 should be a cheaper pack, not more expensive.. but less repairable on a module basis.
I think my main problem about my car not making noise is that I hear all of the interior cabin rattles, bumps on the road, etc. Am I the only person with interior rattles? Like it sometimes sound like my window doesn't seal properly and that there's rattles on my dash or on my doors but I don't have anything stored there?

I have a Tesla, auto pilot is nice, but let's be honest, it's only slightly better than most lane keep and adaptive cruise control systems in other cars. I have a Kia telluride that is pretty dang close to as good

Why is charging a negative? It’s only a negative when you’re in a road trip. I plug it in after work and I get a full charge when I get up in the morning.it’s a major plus for me.
I agree with Ryan re: charging, sitting for 25 min at a charger [negative] seems to be offset by the relaxing highway use of autopilot [positive].
There's also many hours saved each year not having ICE car maintenance or emissions checks done.

There is another BIG advantage for an electric in a garage and that is that it adds no additional heat. An Ice vehicle releases a tremdious amount of heat into the garage as it cools off. This heat damages paint/plaster and adds to cooling costs (assuming it is physically connected to the house)
What I find too is how quickly I can get heat in an electric car. We have a Model 3 and a VW GTI. It takes about 3-5 minutes to have good cabin heat below 20 degrees in the GTI and less than a minute in the Model 3. I love the driving experience of my GTI but I find some days I just take the Model 3 because of how relaxing it is. I feel like overall for performance driving the GTI is more fun, but outside of that the Model 3 is almost always a better experience.
I really got sick of gas prices. Traded a Ford Edge for the Model 3 and an F150 for the GTI. I really love the experience of both of these cars for different reasons. We tried to buy a Mach-E and an ID.4 before the Tesla, but the wait times and poor communication had the Model 3 delivered first so the ID.4 reservation was cancelled and the Mach-E was not even orderable in the time we were looking to buy.
There is probably no built-in CD player but there are CD players to buy that will work with steering wheel functions on modern cars note USB. but how easy is it to plug in a memory card with music on a Tesla. And then I mean in a simple way that takes a very short time
I have a couple of quick questions from subscribers, if I may:
1. The dashcam feature in a Tesla - does it allow always-on footage from the front & rear of the car? Say you want to add a larger USB drive & basically keep it on when driving permanently. (a) Does it fill the drive then loop over the oldest file like an aftermarket dashcam? (b) Does it record in high enough FPS that you can easily read license plates in the footage?
2. What if a Tesla's battery reaches end of life, but there's still lots life left in the car? Are there aftermarket providers who sell cheaper batteries that can replace the OEM ones? Or, are the batteries so structurally intact that to remove them would be too much work or would even destroy the car?
I had my heart set on a Model Y Performance, but I really dislike Elon (I won't get into a political/ethical rant here, I'm here legit) and will apply some principles when buying. I've been looking at the Genesis GV60 Performance & fell totally in love with its interior. I hear it handles a bit soft, but the power & AWD I love is there. I respect the Tesla approach to interiors, but I simply prefer the welcoming, stylish interior of the Genesis (with the white interior!). Brand preference aside, would any of you consider the GV60 a legit competitor to the Y?

as mentioned below, the TeslaCam records only last 1hr buffer (regardless of storage size), but has 4 angles: front, rear (wide angle), and both sides facing rear (GREAT for side swipes, key/door dings in parking lots.)
However, the resolution (and color except rear) are relatively poor (it's meant for AP/self driving, not high-res.) Also lower bitrate, so a complex seen (rough road surface, lots of trees/grass) can pixelate, hard to see details.
You can mostly read license plates, but not reliably/all the time.
Therefore for longer recordings and better quality, suggest an aftermarket dashcam... the Tesla & Sentry cam is a very handy and free feature, but not perfect!
The battery pack should last 10-15yrs at minimum, warranteed for 8 (100-150k mi)... no aftermarkets would be available, but it can still be replaced, most likely by Tesla however for high price ($10-15k.) Some places may repair them (see Gruber tech). The entire pack itself is relatively removable, but individual cells/packs are not.
Test drive & buy whatever EV you like and feel comfortable with... Tesla will have the best features and performance, and DEFINITELY the best charging network for roadtrips, but others are coming along well enough
The charging infrastructure is the largest problem with EVs in general; I'd consider myself as an early adopter of Tesla since 2019. Yes supercharging is available (most places) but the problem is NOT ENOUGH places. I've been to multiple places in the USA (not rural either) where charging is no where to be found and I have on multiple occasions had to limp to even just a J1772 or an outlet. I understand Tesla is working on this but if all Tesla cars could charge on what is quickly becoming the new standard - CCS this makes it more accessible to those without home charging or superchargers nearby, make the adapters accessible to purchase (I'm sure many owners would pay for a charging chip retrofit) I certainly would, to be able to use SC but also CCS stations now you've got a better solution for EV adoption for the masses. Also, manufactures have to keep in mind that the average person in America has a 5th grade education level, when you start having to read maps, buy adapters, explain a new metric (KWH vs MPG) keep cards on file for payment methods, use multiple apps (chargepoint, plugshare), calculate waiting times, the learning curve is steep, not insurmountable but steep. A lot of people don't want the hassle. I love my EV and would never go back but the average Jon/Jane it's just too much for people get. remember we don't like change in our country lol

Don't batteries in EVs already have a preset buffer that only charges them to 90% of their actual capacity?
Charging them 80% would be equivalent of charging the battery to 70%. I'm assuming this has little affect on battery degradation with the preset buffer.

Pretty poor planning, that benefit was standard in luxury cars at that time and for my part , I didn’t even think to check for it .
For me the #1 appeal of owning a Tesla is not having to interact with a dealership (stealership).

Great video on the benefits of purchasing a Tesla. I can think of one more. A Tesla is an “investment vehicle”. I ordered my Tesla Model Y Long Range 10 months ago, and have not take delivery yet. My Tesla reservation started out at $53,990, but now it is worth $62,990! So, I feel $9,000 richer. Who knows how long it will be until I actually take delivery, late 2022, 2023?, 2024?. What I do know, is that the value will go ever higher, and I will feel richer every time the price increases. Some day, I hope to be able bequeath my reserervation to my family, so when I pass on 10 or 20 years from now, my Tesla Reservation will be worth millions. 😂
I’m so upset I suppose to take delivery for my Tesla model 3 today and I had to put my delivery on hold due to being on vacation when receiving the vin number , do anyone else knows how long it takes to get a same spec vehicle when back in the queue?

tbh, road noise is more noticeable in BEVs and there can be a good amount of it in earlier Teslas but I hear it in other cars, like the Polestar 2. The disadvantage is the cars are heavy so the tires wear out quicker. The back seat usually has a "knee up" position in BEVs due to the battery on the floor. So, those are some disadvantages. Of course gassing up is quicker and there are more gas stations if and when you have to charge in public vs. at home. If you can't charge at home then it becomes a factor. Another issue is software defined cars can brick to where nothing works and sometimes a service center can spend days trying to figure out the issue. Overall, I like BEVs. Tesla isn't my brand and I think there are some alternative BEVs out. Tesla is still probably the best BEV you can buy though Lucid is more thorough in suspension tuning and feel. In terms of driving, I did like the Hyundai Ioniq and thought it had a terrific and comfortable ride quality, Polestar 2 has a Volvo like solidity and has very sporty handling though the packaging is compromised, and others. I don't know how any of the Chinese cars feel as I've never driven one (the Polestar 2 is Swedish AFAIC, only the owner is Chinese but the content is Swedish so I don't consider it Chinese though it is built in China). Overall, BEVs are the future but I don't think it should be forced. Let the adoption be natural.
I love my Tesla, its gone up so much since I got it in September. I think The Ford Lightning is going to open a lot of eyesto electric vehicles. Especial as its used as a work truck, that can power tools for a full day.
Ford doesn't have any special battery tech. In order to put that many batteries in, they will spend a lot of money on batteries. The car will be unprofitable. They will either make very little amount of the car or significantly raise the price. Wait and see. This will be the issue with most legacy auto making EVs.

Range is still an issue, I have an Ionic 5 and it's a problem. Driving from Austin to Reno in an ICE car is 26 hours - in the Ionic, the trip planner has to take me through California making my trip 45 hours AND limits my speed in some areas or I won't make the next charging station - that is not acceptable (13 hours of charging time!). I have considered bringing a generator with me, I truly fear trying to take the Ionic there. Another issue, that I haven't seen from anyone else, is that regen braking, especially in the mountains or in traffic, makes me car sick, I am surprised nobody else has mentioned this.
Haven't watched the video yet, but if charging is a "benefit" it's only so if you aren't reliant on superchargers. My battery passively drains like 10-20 miles per day with temperatures between 70 and 100. ICE cars don't "leak gas" like EVs passively lose battery, so whereas I use to be able to go like a week between filling up my old Corolla, I find I can maybe stretch out to 2 days driving my Model 3 SR+. Numbers comparison: $4.50/gal * 12 gal = $54 * 52 weeks = $2800/year on gas vs $15 (supercharger @ $0.48 per kWh)/(2 - 3 days) * 365 days/year = $1800 - $2700 per year. While yes it is "lower," half of my "miles" are lost to idle drain, so I don't get to drive my Tesla for nearly as much time.
