gukesh is an absolute beast and champion, cant wait until the young prodigies start winning super tournaments and eventually make their way to the wc cycle
5:46 Kc1 was final blunder. Ke1 would hold, but if you have only 3 seconds on clock you have to play by your instincts and experience. Aronian is very experienced player, he saw right away his chance how to take white pawn without sacrificing anything. Exchange + pawn is easily converted on this very high level. To win rook vs bishop would have been very hard , almost mission impossible
It's a bit harsh to call it a blunder. It was under time pressure and a complicated endgame. Actually, in this endgame, Levon was winning many times but it slipped into a draw. Just shows that the endgame was too complicated for the fast time control to play accurately. The final mistake by Gukesh was 5:45 when he played Kc1. The point is that Levon can now play Rd2-Kb3 and now when Rd8 white has to deal with a lack of moves for the B made worse by the fact that the K on c1 cannot move else it will get mated. That's why Gukesh gave up the pawn. He had no choice. Instead of the mistake of Kc1 Gukesh should have played a wasting move with the B so if black played Rd2+ then white's K can run the other way to Ke1 and now if black ever tries to limit the moves of the B then white can waste moves with the K. Even then it is not obvious because there are tricky lines if the white K moves too far away of R sac B and black wins K+p endgame. But it should be drawn with best play.
Playing under time pressure and with bishop versus rook, black was in a more comfortable position White was unlucky to miss playing a few strong moves in middle-game. Being younger, his best is yet to be👌
whoever can, could, may, might become a WC is okay. This game shows the mettle of the armenian " how many times he would have been in the black side of the Ruy lopez, making it a nothing harm, diluted and effected a way for black.

Gukesh is a beast in classical, glad to know that the only reason he's 2nd is because of the rapid section and not classical.
Gukesh is impressive but he still has long ways to go to be compared to someone like Aronian, be it rapid or classical.
Aronian is better at classical though. His peak rating was above 2800.
Gukesh is 16 years old.
Bro gukesh is the youngest there.. probably alot of potential not yet unlocked

then it,s theoretical draw instead Gukesh moved to the left with his king
and Aronian had no clue what to do if it was winning
do you? Does anyone? I'm curious. Somehow one must get white's king behind black's pawn with white's king in front after bishop and rook come off...
