It's rather impressive that you managed to recreate such an visually striking artwork. The only problem I had with your video that it was unclear and I had to zoom my computer several times to read the smaller numbers better. It's still impressive on how you kept on with the video, and I imagine you would had gotten bored by 10 minutes.

I'm 2/3 of the way through this vid, and I'm actually pleased with how my illustration is turning out. I just did this tutorial in Graphic. Worked well! Masking apparently works quite differently compared to Illustrator, so I had to find a workaround. Also had to manually create all the colors, which was easy anyways. Blending modes look a bit different too, despite the same names. The end result looks very similar though.

Then once those were over, I stopped using Illustrator for a long time, but recently decided to pick it back up again and this tutorial is the first I used to brush up on my skills. Had some hiccups along the way (cause the software was acting up and not giving me certain options I needed to use) but I found my way around it. Thank you for the step by step tutorial. This tutorial is great and goes through many useful tips and tricks, although I find the structure confusing. You are an advanced illustrator, that much is clear, but as a beginner it's not clear to me what you have in mind when you go about your workflow. You first make alot of line-work which you repeatedly say is going to look great when it's apparently a mess of white lines. It's hard to follow because I can't visualize what parts will look like what when they only resemble lines. I think it would be better if you made every element into completion in turn, like first the glass globe, then the moons, then the rings, and so on, because then we would see how all the techniques work together in making the elements, rather than having unfinished elements that you "will come back to". Since I'm following along the tutorial on illustrator, I will have to make random circles and then saving them for later without knowing their purpose.
Ok that might have been long winded, but I just wanted to give some constructive criticism. Your tutorial is very in-depth otherwise and very useful!

It's clearly not for fresh illustrator people.
      But I agree with you.
You can still learn a lot from this.

@@AdrasHoriaGaming yes, it wasn't the content that of, but the structure.

I can agree with you here, but in the same time I think as a beginning graphic artist you also should get used to this way as well, you might find it hard to understand at first but overtime you'd get used to it and it'll only benefit you in the long run.
Not trying to invalidate your criticism at all, because I admit it could get very confusing if you're first starting out, however there are many videos out there catering to beginners, maybe try them out first and come back to more advanced videos once you get a better hang of this.

I agree, too. I've been teaching myself Inkscape, and now taking up Illustrator. After watching tons of tutorials, it's interesting how each designer has their own workflow. I think setting up all the lines, all at once, is a bit overwhelming. But thankfully, there's the pause and rewind button. ha ha. Seriously, my workflow would not resemble his. Again, we're all different.

That's because this tutorial focuses much more on hand holding than on the artistic side. Notice how he uses numbers whenever possible for rotating objects, setting their size etc. That's so this can be followed step by step like a coloring book, no room for error. Because of that the video feels sterile in the creative and artistic side of things, the problem is magnified by the fact that the artist doesn't explain where the picture is going or why things are where they are. As you said through the process he assures things will make sense and look good later on but that does little for the viewer to grasp why he's doing what he's doing it when he's doing it.

Thank you for this tutorial. While I had to make adjustments for an earlier form of Illustrator, I still managed to complete this.
