@@Joe-vb4pg, in the 70's (he'd be in his twenties) he said he almost voted for British entry into the then EC, but instead voted against after an article he wrote with some doubts about it was quashed, causing alarm.
Over the years, he became increasingly hostile to the EU (rightly so, I agree with him), but wanted England (or Britain) to leave not via plebiscite, but by an elected parliament on a manifesto.
So no, he didn't take any part in the referendum, even though he wanted out of the EU, because it wasn't the way it should have been done. And he was right. We've left in name only.

I think this interview shows the inability of the British establishment to recognise its own failures. While Peter is perhaps too negative in his assessment of modern Britain, the inability of the GMB people and Dan to even conceive of Britain in a state of decline is quite breath taking.

    • @JamesSmith-hm5sp

Perhaps Peter should of mentioned the potentials Britain could of had if it had the money and prestige after WW2. For example,
      - an independent space program
      - a healthy car industry similar to France or Germany
      - Not joining the EU
      - an independent nuclear weapons program with ICMBs and advanced nuclear bombers
      - a far stronger navy with global influence
      - high speed electric rail
      - nuclear power capabilities similar to France
      - a huge array of strategic military bases in Singapore, Malta, West Africa etc, - independent foreign policy without the consent of Washington.
      I could go on...

Never seen a man more talked over and lied about to his face about his own book that none of them have reach such as Peter endured in this interview. He doesn't want a return to the past, his book is simply about what mistakes we've made and what we ought to have done instead throughout the years.
