    About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on TH-cam videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

Exema is so hard to control which my son has and i have psoriasis. I have to use steroids to keep myself comfortable. I am old so i don't worry about long term use. I get tested every six months to find out if my liver is doing ok. So far i am good. My mom had Exema on one arm and every night she would sit and soak a cloth in some water powder solution and wrap her arm. Eventually it cleared up and went away never to come back. That was really nice to have that help to get the garden ready. That is hard work. You are looking so much better so i hope it goes away. Take care and God bless you and your family.

I have been going to suggest this for quite a while. Your hose runs down to the garden from the house.
What we did, we made a short 3 foot hose from the house faucet to the ground, then dug a shallow ditch ( about 4-5 inches) and put 3/4 PVC pipe from the end of that short hose to our garden. We drove in a T post, at the garden. We put about a PVC T on the end of the pipe, a 1 foot piece of pipe going up and a valve on it. The Other branch of the PVC T we threaded a plug into. You will need some fittings, pipe to garden hose mainly but holy smokes sure saves time unraveling hoses and running up and down the hill, And the best part is you can drive over it with the mower. You could even put in a T part way down your hill with a hose for the beds you built on the slope.
Come fall open the valve and undo the hose at the house and all or most of the water should drain out. To be safe I remove the plug on the T in the ground. I cut the bottom out of a square yogurt container and a notch for the pipe, dug the hole about a foot deep there and filled it with gravel. Once the majority of the water is out of the pipe open the plug on the T in the ground, whatever is left in the pipe going up will drain and you won’t have a broken pipe in the spring.

With the landscape fabric in the walkways? Maybe pull it up each year (that it lasts) rake that soil into the bed and put the fabric back down- with wood chips if you can get them. I put cardboard down in the walkways every couple years and top it with wood chips if they’re available. The following spring I rake the undecomposed wood chips aside, rake up that black gold into my beds and top the walkways with more wood chips ( or mulch of your choice). For me it’s another way to make compost and improve my beds. Prayers for your health.
