I really liked the way you tricked me at he start into thinking that this would be a 1 vs 1 ship battle, and then you visualized the whole armada! Great job! ;)

To anyone reading the comments and wondering who blaz de lezo was. Hes a Spanish Admiral. The Spanish view him as a hero because he defeated the Royal Navy. Thats the story the Spanish like to hear. In actual fact, the Battle of Cartenega at sea was Lezo sinking two of his own Spanish ships and burning another to prevent entry to the harbor.
The British Royal navy Captured the burning spanish ship and put the fire out.
On land the British Army was dying from disease and attacking a strongly fortified position. Most deaths were from disease.
So give a cheer for Admiral Lezo. The Admiral who defeated the enemy by sinking his own ships and waiting for disease to kill them
But he won, that's the important part. The british send a really big navy against Cartagena de Indias but they couldn't defeat the defenses. It's like saying that the Armada lost against the weather.

tommi atkins , That is what required to do in order to defeat the Admiral Vernon's fleet and he did it. The sinking of three of gallions at entrance of the harbor did not let the British' ships enter in the harbor, excellent order.

The sheer copium in this comment is impressive, if you had read a little bit more about the battle before posting this, you would know it wasnt as simple as you describe it, this is by far one of the most embarrasing and humiliating defeats in the entire history of the British armed forces, you brits even had commerative medals depicting your "victory" against the spaniards and how you "humbled" them at Cartagena BEFORE the battle even happened. Vernon was so sure he was gonna win he sent a letter mid-battle to mainland UK announcing officially his "victory" against Blas, just deal with it...

Yes, the british empire was the most powerfull country between 1815-1917 (when germany and USA taked the relieve. Yes, the spanish european empire wasn't profitable, in fact we had to defende it in uncountable wars being at war with all european countrys simultaneously. But for that time we have the control of the seas and also of the lands, GB just had the control of the seas. In fact is more rentable to have a large colonial empire and stay in your island outside of the europoean problems.
belac0r92 wrong, Spain was never as powerful on the land as countries such the ottomans, Prussians ect...... Britain was the most powerful country from 1707 onwards. It started the industrial revolution, during ww1 Britain mustered a force of 12 million soldiers something that Spain could never do. During ww2 in 1940 Britain fought the Third Reich, Italy and Japan in three fronts at the same time. Even today the British military and cultural impact is far greater than Spain’s. Spain was powerful but wasn’t on the same level as The British empire at its peak sorry to say

We've always fought against the piratery, and you've always protected it. Francis Drake is a national hero or a pirate? Tanzania ans Sudan were paceful, but ric&prosperous? yes, may be just for the british setlers. Come on!, the british invented with the portuguese the slavery trade and the piracy. The old spanish colonies were prosperous and rich while they were part of the kingdom, they became in 3th world after we leave it.

The "British" are different to the "English", the English were the ones with the empire.

@707MerK Well, actually the voice acting is from the game itself. I've been messing with the game files and found the voices. Funny they just don't get used ingame, seems like a waste of hdd space. Most likely another CA bug, they planned to use the voices but couldn't make 'em work properly and then just disabled them, i believe.

I see someone to learn a history class. The portuguesse empire (the second larges colonial empire in 16th century, just behind of the spanish) was absorbed by the spanish, including their colonies in india, africa and oceania. Do you remember the portuguese succesion war 1580? Spain won against France, England, Netherlands and Portugal simultaneously, and the 2 larges colonial empires of that season where ruled from Madrid. The colonies of France, England and Holland were minimum for that time.

The most importants hospitals, academies, universities, libraries and also cathedrals, palaces, fortrees... were built by spaniards in the Empire.
Great Britain had colonies dont forget it, thats means steal for steal, without develop nothing, only tea and cofee plantations. And also remember that this countries you say r europeans descendants, not natives (Jamaica, african countries..?).

Ive read some comments of brits insulting argentina, saying that we are the ones who rage over something in the past and that is our job. Well notice that for example here it is you the only ones insulting arg. and not other wise. also remember your 2 invasions to argentina, both of which failed and had more casualties than the falklands war. Yeah, let's completely forget the fact that Britain had the largest empire the world has ever seen, and it was so global even the sun couldn't set on it. They also had a navy that controlled 2/3 of world trade and a population of 1/3 out of the whole world during it's time.

And the British Empire didn't control 2/3 of world trade (not even close) nor had 1/3 of the global population in it - it was a bit less than 1/4, which is less than the percentage that the Achaemenid Empire, the Sasanian Empire, the Roman Empire, the Maurya Empire
, the Qing dynasty or the Umayyad Caliphate had at their respective times (up to 44% in the Achaemenid Empire and 30% in the Umayyad Caliphate). The British Empire would rank 14th in this category.
Also, the Spanish Empire had a "perpetually sunny" empire as well, and long before the British did.

@dogensu yes you can find a pirate faction in the empire total war game but you cant play as them

In order to modify the voices I simply just extracted the game files and added the voices on the video. In fact the raw video was shot entirely without sound, as I was recording in slowmo to double my framerate. So all sounds you hear has been manually put back on by me.
I had a friend helping me, the AI would never be able to use the formations in the vid.

In my opinion is just the opposite you've said. The spanish armada in 1588 couldn't defeat the english navy, becouse the ships weren't warships, just transport ships. But clearly, that if we'd made landfall with the spanish tercios (undefeated), the english catholic would suported the spanish against the Queen. The english infantery of 16th century was defeated many times by the spanish tercios when you suported the duch revolt, like in Goes 1572, Battle of Zutphen, or in Ostend 1604.

You can but it is very difficult to control them all, if I go to battle with lets say 15 ships on my side they sometimes have a tendency to collide and that is not good for the rigging.
Spain put up a good fight but the British were victorious as usual. So what if the british used to capture and rob the Spanish ships it was full of gold they had stolen themselves Rule britannia!

yep, we used captured german tech in the beginning, but the key word is CAPTURED, to the victor belongs the spoils.
OH! Trafalgar, yes. I can also remember you the battle of Ponta Delgada in 1580 when we defeat the anglo-franco-portuguese fleet outnumbered 2 to 1 without losing a single ship. Or I can also remember you the english Cádiz Expedition 1625, that was an EPIC FAIL for the english navy and the causalities were far biguer than in Trafalgar.

But is so easy to rule over the cangurus and the penguins as the british empire did. The Spanish empire ruled over the Portuguese, parts of France, Parts of Germany, Parts of Turkey, Parts of Itally, Parts of Germany... having a large colonial empire also. So the Spanish empire in the 15th and 17th century was more powerfull than the british in 19th. So the spanish power was absolut (no competence) and the british power was relative (competing with other european powers).

17s? may be you need to remember the battle of Cartagena de Indias 1741(my favorite), Battle of Alamansa 1707, Action of 9 August 1780, the siedge of Pensacola 178 when the redcoats tasted spanish bayonets, and battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 1797 when Nelson lost his arm. You haven't got more victories against Spain, may be you win the last ones, but not in number considering all history.
British won more battles, spanish win 40, british 55.

Building a few palaces and government buildings, the legacy of Spain, is not what I'm referring to as devoloping. They did not leave as a legacy well developed economies, fair systems of law (like British Common Law), well educated and entrpreneurial publics (compared to the Anglosphere or French colonies) or lasting stable systems of government. No revolutions or hyperinflations in the Anglosphere - commonplace in Sth America.

Technically, we aren't far off from that right now. With several hundred military bases around the world. Along with a Navy that surpasses in tonnage and power to China's, UK's, and Russia's put all together. And, the largest and most technologically advanced Air force( next to Israel ) in the world. Pretty much.
