Hi Brit! :) Missed the live stream, so... sharing[0] random thoughts as I watch after-the-fact. :) - I love that you just straight-up use metric (e.g. at 11:28, 14:00, etc.), without even bothering to mention imperial measurements. Yay! :) - SBJ chirping - 22:01/22:05 - "help is a strong word"... hah, indeed. :) - 24:05 - ooooh, communistic co-op penguins! That's a fun way to think about it. (Even if, re 24:29, that's not really what's up.) - 26:09 - yay, thanks for responding to my question. :) - 29:28 - ahh, but wouldn't that "big hippy commune" (24:26) have the option to serve that same need? I suppose it would make sense that it would tend towards monogamy as long as most pairs breed each season, as one would want to maximize both food-gatherers and baby-carers, and to maximize both requires a 1:1 ratio, given the cold factor (at least for Emperors), and their needing each chick to be closely guarded... With other species, though, the poly hippy commune _could_ still make sense, no? Not that it's what happens... just... interesting (30:23 - yup!) to think about in terms of what the different pressures and possibilities are. And with 1:08:57... one has to wonder what could be, if they went full-on commune mode! - 31:40/31:43 ...... hahahahahaha, nice: that moment when one has to pause and laugh, because one isn't sure which thing Brit is making a point of denying: non-monogamy, or zoophilia... or both. :D - 33:08 - I dunno... as long as that's just one reason one likes what one likes, maybe it's OK? :D - 34:59 - hah, brigadier sir penguin! Wow. - 42:35 - uhh... *swoon*. :) [crossref 33:08?] - 43:16 - reminder to post in comments about etymology. :) - 55:32 - I think "penguins are delightful" could be the answer to a whole swath of questions, including many that don't obviously have anything inherently to do with penguins. :D Also, you're delightful as you smile about that. :) - 59:22 - reminder #2 - do penguins sweat? - 1:09:54 - woah! Face closeup time! Hi! :D 1:10:18 - adorbs! [0] over-sharing?!?? Perhaps. Hopefully it's received in similar levity to how it's typed. Thanks for sharing with us! Well-wishes back atcha!

I wish I could have been there for the stream. Penguins are such interesting animals. I had a bit of a giggle when someone had mentioned -40 degrees to be metric, since that's the converging point of those two scales lol. I wish I could have brought up how they filter out saltwater. This isn't unique to penguins, some other marine birds use this adaptation, but they have a (supraorbital) glad which allows them to expel excess salt from their blood, which allows them to survive while taking in large quantities of salt from the seawater they hunt in.
@@natureleague Also, there are no bad reasons for admiring the natural world. If you like the way chinstrap penguins look, that's all you need for them to be your favourite. Planet Earth footage sells the appeal of the animals they showcase so effectively lol.
Loved the video as always :) I know it wouldn’t fit with the channel, but I would love to see you do a wardrobe tour. You always have such awesome t-shirts :)
Brit, have you seen the woman who removes hooks from sharks? th-cam.com/video/G8LmxwOgBhA/w-d-xo.html It's both awesome and depressing (that she has to). Warning: you'll feel a mix of emotions, including jealousy. 😀
46:05 - The veins in penguin feet don't just run beside each other, they wrap _around_ each other.
Yes! Totally incredible :)

Sounds like a job for a Patreon perk haha. Eventually yes!!
Nature League I would love to be a nature league patron!
can we get a family tree of the deep dive subjects? Like, how far away pangolins are from penguins are from coral in the evolutionary tree?
Love that idea!! Yes, I can work on it ;)
